- The city of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh is all set to host the world's largest religious congregation - the Kumbha Mela 2019. Pilgrims from across the world have begun to gather in Kumbh Nagri to plunge themselves in the waters of Triveni Sangam - the confluence of three rivers, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.
The Kumbha Mela will commence with the 'shahi snan' on January 15 on Makar Sankranti, while Mahashivratri on March 4th will mark the last bathing day.
Today in IN DEPTH, we try and understand the significance of the Kumbh Mela, why it is a conglomeration of spiritual consciousness and cultural heritage, and the preparations and main attractions at the Kumbh Mela this year.
