Space Engineers Tutorial - Starting on Servers Quickly and Keeping the Pod [1]

  • This video will show you what is in my opinion the most efficient way to start out in Space Engineers survival. This method is very useful when starting on survival servers where it is pretty much a race to be the first one with good production capabilities. Unfortunately, cause my internet is absolute poop at the moment, this wasn't recorded on a server, but the method shown is still the same. I hope this helps you to become a better player at SE PVP.
    Thanks to /T\ Yondu Udonta for his guide on fast survival starts which inspired this video (and for him complaining about my stupid hand digging in the last tutorial I made)

    Do note (for multiplayer servers) that many (that I played at least) have a beacon-policy enabled on their server. This means a grid must at least have one beacon block on the grid else it will be removed in X amount of time. In most cases it doesn't have to be finished, just placed.

    Using that space pod technique, and teaming up with other engineers to map asteroids super fast, I've been able to build my main ship with 14 jump drives in under 8 hours (vanilla servers). Once I have my main jump ship, I can be flying around with over 500 million space credits in less than about 4-5 days. Selling platinum and doing deliveries can make mad bank (Pt sales can be over 18M SC per order), and if you are selective on whom you do business, you can make NPC allies and get serious discounts. Fantastic for buying entire war ships to quickly bolster your fleet, even loading one up with warheads for the express intent of ramming a rival base or mothership. Might cost you 200-300 million SC, but with a jump ship capable of doing over 15,000 Km single jumps, you'll make the money back stupid fast. Just gotta keep the reactors fed.

    Brotip:
    When mining with the ship drill, turn off the ship's inertial dampeners and let the ship "drift" slowly through the asteroid.
    It'll save a little bit of power compared to constantly accelerating and decelerating, and requires less button-mashing.

    9:00 you dont need a merge block, you can just build some frames (unwelded blocks) (at least 1 more than the ship block count) and grind down the block between the ship and frames, the bpart with bigger block count will be a starting ship
    That helps if you dont have enough resources for some reason or something like that

  • @-_Tyger_-
    @-_Tyger_- Před 2 lety +4

    Great tutorial. You can also get the large steel tubes you need for the drill by grinding the hydrogen engine. As of the latest update, you won't lose the hydrogen if you grind it down past functional and weld it back up later. The gyro is great source of extra steel plates, since you can take up to 100 (just don't go past functional) and it still works. If I need more steel plate (in my Steam guide, I build a basic assembler and refinery, plus a drill before drilling), you can get 60 plate each from the batteries without going past the functional line.
    The only thing I would change about this tutorial is to start at least the 80 computers for the basic assembler in the survival kit before leaving to map asteroids.

    These two videos are so dense with information and tips that they should (at least) be listed at the top within the game, preceding or maybe even replacing the hours of videos linked within the game.
    The title actually does the videos a bit of a disservice. I didn't watch them the first time they were suggested, or even the 20th, as I've never played on a server. Even though that's your main point, you have many excellent tips that aren't directly related to that goal. I think you should make more tutorials like this, maybe a planet-start one, for example (but please include the same UI tips you did in this one, as I still learned a lot with a couple hundred hours in the game, so it'd be phenomenal for newbs!)
    I've linked to your two tutorials in the Steam forums many times in discussions asking how to get started... not sure if people are actually following the links or not (no-one has commented on them).

    Also, thanks for the tutorial. I ended up having to scrap the starter ship (server starter-ship auto-delete), but it did speed up the process of gathering enough materials to built a proper station and mining drone.
    I then ended up with a SUS that forced me to rip the station off of the asteroid it was built into, and use the drillbot as a shunting engine to escape the danger zone.

      @@auxencefromont1989
      Strong
      Unknown
      Signal
      AKA "Hey, I'm the server and you look lonely, so lemme just put a marker down so that everybody who's logged in can see where you are!"
      The SUS spawns a couple dozen kilometers from the targeted player, but people can save the SUS coordinates and given enough time they'll eventually have three or more coordinates that they can use to pinpoint your location.
      In my case, i was far away from any of the planets and should've been alone out there, but I'd already had one SUS show up close to me and had started to build a ship so I could get out of there.
      Then a second SUS shows up on the opposite side of my base from the first one, but that was fine because the ship was coming along nicely.
      Then after a couple of hours this *third* SUS shows up and it's kinda close, but too far out be aimed at me (~63km).
      And then it hit me.
      The previous two signals were on the opposite sides of my base.
      They were close enough to obviously have been targeted at me, but still at about what I thought was the maximum distance a SUS could spawn from a player was (~50km).
      Which meant that if another player who was logging signals took those two signals and drew a Venn diagram around them, the overlapping space would be pretty small. And if you have a 3D cad program or some math skills, you can easily calculate a GPS position right in that in-between space.
      Which meant that the *third* SUS that was too far out to be aimed at me must've been aimed at another player who might've been as close as 13km away from my asteroid station.
      So I tore the station off of the asteroid and used the still-attached partially-built ship to GTFO.
      Then I nearly lost everything anyway because while I was accelerating away from the "danger zone", an asteroid cluster spawned in directly in the station's path, and the inertia of my three fully loaded large cargo containers and processing equipment meant that even though I turned the station sideways and set the main thrusters to full power override as soon as I spotted the cluster, I only missed it by ~400m.
      Again, I wasn't actually *at* top speed yet when the cluster spawned, I was just _slooowly_ creeping past ~70m/s. It more or less meant that my station had a maximum safe speed of like 75 or something because of how long it took to change course with that payload and thruster setup.
      Anyway, I didn't get caught, and I eventually upgraded the ship with more thrusters so that it'd do a better job at being a space tug, and fitted the station with a jumpdrive.
      And then I think my stuff was auto-deleted while I was on holiday.
      You live and you learn.

    This guide is good but you should turn game volume down slightly it's hard to hear you over the grinder

  • @alexandrehable
    @alexandrehable Před 2 lety +1

    How do you do to build on the ship? Most of servers erase it

    • @endar949
      @endar949  Před 2 lety +1

      Use the merge block trick or place a big stick of unwelded armour blocks with more blocks than the ship itself then chop it off then the stick, that will make the ship a new, permanent grid. Some servers have a beacon policy where ships get deleted if they have no beacon so remember that too.

    so uh somehow my hydrogen is depleted what can i do (cant move the ship cuz its 0)

    • @endar949
      @endar949  Před rokem

      The ship's thrusters are powered by energy from the batteries, hydrogen shouldn't be a problem as you can just respawn and get a full jetpack.

    my basic assembler refuses to build anything because it cant draw material from the oxygen producer, how come yours works?

    • @endar949
      @endar949  Před 2 lety

      Double check the conveyor ports are aligned and there's a conveyor path from the assembler to the materials. If any functional blocks with conveyors or conveyors themselves are damaged, they won't be able to transfer items, so check with a welder. Other than that, I have no idea what could be causing your problem, if that doesn't work let me know

    10:53 Instructions unclear, ship turned into station irreversibly…
    (I managed to fix it somehow, but that caught me off guard and new players might not know that ships can turn into stations and back into a ship via "info" tab in the inventory. At least it happened in a single player test world.)

    • @endar949

      Building it unlocks a lot of stuff in the progression tree including the control seat which we need to unlock the drill.
