About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a rural South Dakota born and Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 4 kids and over 500+ videos. We also have a TV show on the Magnolia Network called Super Dad. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
Texans When it Snows
• The South when it Snows
Dude Dad
/ dudedad - Komedie
Being in the South, I approve this message. We treat .25" of snow as a National disaster
Especially since ice is always in the mix.
This is not a joke. I'm from Chicago and was in Georgia when there was a quarter inch of snow. The roads were damp and people crawled along.
@randomchance7796 we shut schools and business down in advanced of the "oncoming disaster" to keep us idiots off the roads. Almost comical really
as a Canadian this made me laugh way harder than it should have🤣
It's okay to laugh. I live in the south and it's all true! We had about an inch of snow and ice. Everything was shut down for 3 days, including mail delivery, because we don't have equipment to clear the streets.
I think I might’ve pee’d my pants watching this! 😂 Here in Omaha,Nebraska, we had 11” of snow last week with -30 temps
Haha yep! It's -16 Celsius today (3 degrees farenheit) and everything is business as usual ha.
Like those supposed Canadians on CZcams slipping on ice thinking they could drive on it. 😂
Yeah us Midwest people are peeing ours alittle bit to. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Him using the garden spade to "shovel" the snow is too funny.
Are you supposed to use something else? 👀
-a texan
@@minetech4898snow shovel and road salt
Well thanks for clearing that up I’m from Louisiana I had no clue 😂
That's when I lost it 😂
I currently do that because the last time I shopped for a snow shovel they were out. lol
I can confirm this, literally just moved from Colorado to Texas and this is 💯 facts. I was in light clothes and everyone had every piece of anything winter on.
ALL the flannel gets put on
I live in Michigan and was wearing shorts on -5 temp weather. People down south think the world is ending when it snows. 😂😂
@@matthewchupp8356 I see snow, I’m happy. They see snow and nobody knows what’s going on. Everybody went out and purchased as much of the grocery store as they could. It was wild.
Careful, you may end up converting. I moved from Ohio/NYC and idk what to do with any snow anymore 😂
As someone born and raised in North Carolina, this is more accurate than reality.
I’ve never left a comment here before. But this was absolutely hilarious!! The prayer over the pipes took me out. I almost said “amen.”
Except the pipes should be on the outside of the house.
Dear lord almighty Dale Earnhardt 😂😂😂😂LOL I’m dead. As a native North Georgian I can say all FACTS !!! We absolutely CAN NOT EVEN !!!!
be strong down there!
So funny! Especially when Ginger Billy made a cameo! As a fellow North Georgian, I agree that we can not EVEN!
😂😂😂😂
“What in Sam Hill” North Georgia here too. You are spot on! Dagnabbit 🤣🤣 that’s my go to word!
Same, also from GA and this was SPOT ON PERFECT lmao
"There is snow near the road" 😂😂😂
The garden shovel amused me, but the spatula ice scraper SENT me!
I've used a plastic spatula before lol 😂. it worked great. yes, I'm from Texas and this was hilarious 😂😂😂
I've seen people use credit cards before.
Ginger Billy & Dude Dad. A match made in heaven? Love it!
I lost it when I seen him pop up!
Agreed!
As a true GRITS (girl raised in the south) ....this made me laugh bc you are so ON POINTE....I don't know about the accent but I give you a solid 10 just for the phrases and research you did....OUTSTANDING!
"I think I got the frostbite on all my flanges." Hahahaha love that Billy ginger got in on it.
😂😅😂
Yeah, right after he shows being out on a sunny, 32 degree day. Northern WI, we're out in hoodies if it's that warm!
I died when he said charcoal reserves. No one look in my pantry.
charcoal reserves are necessary!
We more of a Propane Reserves type family! 🤣🤣 Looking around our barndominium’s shop right now and I count 9 propane tanks in 3 different sizes. 🤭
I love that you couldn't be bothered to move the snowblower from the shot 😂
I laughed SO hard at this! hahaha. Good stuff! I was born and raised in Northern Utah. I remember one year it snowed 6 feet in a 2 day period. Nothing closed and nothing canceled. I now live in Southern Texas, and work part time at Walmart. This last week it dipped into freezing temps for a few days. When I tell you it was like covid happening all over again. It was insane. Everyone buying all of the waters. All the canned food. Portable gas heaters. Once the temps hit, NO ONE came into the store. It was empty.
Grew up in Chicago, moved to Texas when I got married in my 20s and this is so true. (I’m back in Chicago again)
Anyway, I thought it was ridiculous at first until I realized that they don’t have the means to take care of that type of situation. But so many things were still hilarious to me, the way they would react to cold. The weirdest thing I thought was when it was 100+ degrees outside, the AC in every building was pumped up to where I had to wear a sweater everywhere I went indoors. But then the outside gets that cold and the coats come on and scarves etc.😂
Summer is Texas’ “blizzard season.” You stay inside, crank the thermostat, and wait it out. My dad was as surprised as you when he moved from Chicago to Texas.
The A/c doesn’t create frigid cold winds though, so… But, that is a fair point. 😆
The snow's darn near taller than my lawn 🤣
I laughed so hard at this!!! But it's so true. Driving from pa to the south in a snow storm. Roads down south were clear but people acted like they were horrible!
there's snow NEAR the road haha
It's important to remember that foolish southerners tend to not buy all weather tires
Appearently $20-40 a tire is too much for what might save their life lol
@@NerfThisBoardGames Why would we buy snow tires for something that rarely happens? We do buy all weather tires in the sense the tire treads are good for excessive rain. I haven't seen a single snowflake in over 2 years where I live. Also, our taxes are lower because we don't have to buy all of the equipment to remove snow. The downside is when it does snow, our schools and many businesses shut down. We know northerners think that's funny but it's better to be penny wise than pound foolish.
Hilarious video, though.
@@DudeDad It melts onto the road and refreezes. ......black ice.🙂
@NerfThisBoardGames actually that's all that's sold at least in TN. I lived there and all you could find is all weather tires. If you just wanted summer or winter tires you had to order tires from the internet. The south also gets a lot and I mean a lot of black ice. I took a turn and hit a patch of ice that I didnt see. I did a 180. I would have continued on my spin if I didnt take my foot off the gas and turn the wheel into the skid. They also get freezing fog. My area (Hendersonville TN) had a 55 car pile up on the highway because of freezing fog. The city of Nashville has 32 snow plows This had to take care of 1,800 miles of roads. They weren't concerned about the small roads out in the country. Just this past week Nashville got an entire winters worth (winter is 3 months) in 1 day. Any state would be paralyzed with this amount of snow.
LMAO tears! Im from north east Canada and lived in southern Virginia for a while. We got snow there one day...less than 2 inches..the ENTIRE area from Norfolk to VA Beach closed down! Malls, schools, offices. I was stunned! Told them come talk to me when its 6ft deep 😂. Then it went down to like 36F and everyone was moaning we gonna die! I was cracking up! Told them come whining when its -50!
-50?!?!?! I
@@DudeDad yup. Lol. Ive made the mistake of going out with wet hair in winter and had it snap off.
After the Texas freeze of 2021, you bet I’m blessing those pipes!
Amen
Let your taps drip to keep the water flowing in addition to the praying.
Same, same.. Can't have my parents living with us for nearly 2 years again cause of it. What a nightmare
that's when hell did freeze over. it gave me "winter ptsd". 🤷
It was bad and only because the city Austin decided to turn off the lights and the water to lower income people. Only to say ohh the power grid couldn't handle it . Really 🤬😡 many people got hurt in the process even that guy Ted Trevino left to Mexico with his family . Well that year was Hell.
There’s snow but then there is snow on top of ice. We just don’t know how to deal with it down here. I love the garden shovel. Cracked me up.
As a resident of southern, coastal Virginia I can confirm this is accurate!
Gotta have that charcoal on hand!
Pretty accurate!😂😂 except no true Texan would ever run out of charcoal…😒🤦♂️😂😂👍😁
The collap that I didn’t know I needed 😂😂
Billy is the best!
Lmao! We are in south Texas and this is so accurate!! Husband is from Michigan but he acts like this now. He's one of us😂
Ok, now do the North when it’s hot. 😂
Yessssssss!!! Turnabout is fair play
I hate to tell you, but it gets a bit warm up here. Not usually 120°, but most summers at least up to 100° and 99% humidity. Although, as I am typing this, I realize that's still only a few days most summers, and compared to down south...well, go ahead and laugh at me. I earned it.
Hallelujah! It finally happened! 10 whole inches of snow in Tennessee! I am so happy! Hike every day in the snow, sledding, and fun fun fun!
We been getting ice here in Missouri, and rain mix.
Kids are getting annoyed by no school now, how ironic.
We'd prefer that good fluffy snow or a dusting of snow rather than ice, and prefer the undersnow to not melt into a layer of ice.
But we had a good winter a few years ago, some areas up to 18in of snow. We had 13in. Got to make snow angels, a sled ramp with steps dug out, and the leftover snow into an igloo. We monitored the snow melt by how fast the igloo melted, lol. Good snow is hard to come by now. Never know which winter we'll get any snow or not.
As a midwesterner who lived in Louisiana for 12 years, this is so accurate. The first time it snowed, I was so shocked because they closed absolutely everything. Even the gas stations. Literally nothing was open.
The moment you said HEB, I knew you were going to make fun of us Texans. 🤣 I love it because it’s so true. We’ve only been in Colorado for 1 year and this is literally us
i knew it too. but the accuracy made me laugh 😂
Not the socks on the hands!!! 😂😂😂
As a Texan, I have to say, this is all accurate
yep it is 😂
I feel bad because I'm originally from Ohio but have been living in Texas for the past 10 years. And at some point, I became a true Texan so anything less than 60 degrees to me is Alaska weather. 😂😂😂
Ain’t that the truth! 🙌🏻 Preach! 🗣️
This is perfect!! Nothing says snows coming like the grocery stores being out of bread, milk, and eggs, but fully stocked on everything else.
True that. People who don't normally eat milk and bread buy it up
"Darn near taller than my lawn!" And I'm dead!
I laughed out loud so hard!! Thank you for that video. 😂😂😂❤ Ya'll should see how Miami, FL, gets when it drops to 60. We pull out the boots and heavy gear. Hahaha!!!
I can vouch for that! I lived in South Florida for 14 years. 60 and below was freezing. Sweaters and coats, for sure! Now I’ve been in Colorado for 23 yrs and we don’t wear coats if it’s 35 degrees and higher. It’s gorgeous! The sun makes all the difference. The gray skies and humidity was too much for me (in FL).
😂Ok but to be fair, as a Floridian to watch the northern transplants freak out over a hurricane (even just the potential), a gator, or a snake is just as funny.
Plus when our 3 days per year of winter are over, we go back to Mardi Gras partying or whatever else we were doing with only one layer of clothes and on a good day, flip flops 🎉
Don’t forget about them tornadoes!
So I’m from Northeast Texas. There is a picture of me in winter snow. Now growing up in a small farmer community town there were families that lived in the actual woods. So if a school bus could not pick them up school was closed. As long as there was any snow on the ground no school. Also o snow plows so most places were closed accept for Walmart and church 😅😅😅😅. The cold is no joke as anything below 65 degrees is too cold. Unless the woman of the house is going through menopause or “The Change” then your bundled up in your house all year long. 😅😅😅 Also stocking up on water, milk, bread, meat and charcoal and fire wood. Didn’t veggies since we had a freezer full from the summer harvest.
I experienced the southern snow panic for the first time in Louisville KY while at college. I had hiked across campus in 3-4” only to find out they canceled the days classes 🤦🏼♀️ the roads were cleared by 8am but everyone was still going nuts
My college didn’t cancel classes when half of students could not make it past flood waters, but a few inches of snow and everyone is off for a snow day.
On Monday, here in AR they canceled schools because there was a 40% chance of snow. But it turned out to be just rain. 😂 Southern School Boards have gone soft… cause, back in my heyday, it had to be *already* snowing before they would cancel school.

I want this skit to come Canada lol love to see his reaction on vacation and a true Northern Winter where it’s so cold your eyes stick together and your hip deep in snow lol 😂
Lol. We were out of school for a week for just 1" of snow
lollll!
It's nuts what they call school off for these days. I'm in the South (I'm in my mid 30s) and when I was in school they rarely called it off no matter how much snow we got. We just had 2 hour delays. The only time I remember school being off was the blizzard of 93.
I am mostly offended because I have a shed, and another shed lol
East Texan here. I'll work all summer long in the heat, but once it gets below 20°. Forget it. 😅
My hubby and I are in Texas, and we LOVED the cold! I just hated dripping the faucets.
As a south carolinaen I didn't hear no lies in this video lol awesome vid and having ginger Billy was jus the best added hilarious touch to it dude dad !!!!
Honestly though, I grew up in Syracuse, NY and now live in Ohio. I just realized why there is this reaction. If it snowed here and they didn't plow or salt the roads, we would react the same. Northerners laugh, but Southerners don't have a way to move the snow. Agreed?
You are correct.
"God has shunned us today." No, He's just having some fun.🤣
I moved from the south to Minnesota. I remember that first snow and me hovering over the school website waiting for a cancellation for the 2 inches of snow we got, which would have certainly happened in our southern district. Uh, no. Hahaha. The way the north and the south handle snow is vastly different!
Our pipes do burst in the freezing cold. They are in the attic.
Moved from Wyoming to Houston several years ago and two weeks later, it snowed about 1/4 inch. It was pandamoniam!! They dismissed school and shut everything down for 2 days and our kids were like “WHY”🤷🏻♀️😂😂😂
The heated seats thing KILLED me! That's exactly what I thought the first time I tried them!!! 😄😄😄
I lived in the south for several years, and whenever there is "bad" weather the stores sell out of Bread, Milk, and eggs. I guess everyone is making french toast???
As a native southern CA girl who moved to MN at age 40- this was HILARIOUS!!!!
"Got bread? Got eggs?" Yeah, a fellow DJ used to call these normal winter weather alerts "French Toast Alerts" for a reason!
It could have ended with the Shining Jack Nicholson freeze-frame of Taylor saying, "Just waiting for the inevitable".
😂 omg, you added Billy!!!! Lol!!!! What a combo.
Yep! I'm from northern Minnesota and I get such a kick out of watching people freak out with only millimeters of snow.
The facts that schools in East Tennessee have been closed since last Monday - 9 days now and still closed for 4 inches of snow are so insane to me as a Minnesotan transplant down here. The roads have been clear for 8 days on the main roads, but apparently there is a driveway up the mountain somewhere that has some ice on it so school will be canceled until it is melted completely.
Moved from IL to TX and I spent my first winter stunned. Just stunned I tell you!
Bless their hearts
A burst pipe got me out of a over priced apartment lease in Austin last year. It was a crazy stressful week, but we found an amazing home to rent that is double the size and slightly cheaper. Plus, the most amazing landlord ever.
I love it!!!! That was a great video. I live in Northern California where we do get snow, however when I lived in Ridgecrest California, it would SPRINKLE and people would be grabbing their umbrellas and jackets in 75° degree weather...... it was hilarious to see people fuss over light sprinkles. ❤
Love both you guys! Stay warm out there boys! ;-) God's shunned us today!!!
Thoughts and prayers!
Omg , never stopped laughing . You made my day . Loving you from Washington.
Glad your day was made!
As a southerner, I agree that much of this is very true. The only thing is the grocery store would have been much busier and/or out of most of what you needed 😂
This is exactly what happened and I’m in Tennessee 😂😂
For a city boy you got this southern life down
Billy gave me tips haha
This is the funniest video! Y’all outdid yourselves!
The clab was perfect !!
Billy is great! haha
"Like the Teslas have" 😂
I'm from Quebec, Canada and sometimes we get 20 inches of snow in 24 hours! This is so funny !😀
that's wild!
@@DudeDad Yes! And it's a lot of work to get the snow off everything! I love your videos and I've been subscribed for a long time! Thanks for making us laugh
This one was really, really funny (from a Tennessean who just saw the coldest week in memory)
The heated seats thing is real. It’s a once of year type add on but when you need it, you need it!
As a FLA girl that now lives in Sioux Falls SD, I was exactly like this. However, after last week's brutal temps, I'm loving the current 30 degree temps. Sometimes, I don't know who I am!
Keep up the funny!
I love that you got Billy in here. Freaking love him ❤❤❤❤
You two are awesome 👏🏼
Carrying the garden shovel past the snowblower to shovel the driveway! 🤣🤣🤣
hahahhaa "I can see my breath".
We moved to the Carolinas from MA and everybody goes absolutely crazy and we're on the porch in shorts
"Dig 2" out of 4" " 🤣😂🤣😂💀
Ginger Billy! 😂
You and Ginger Billy?! I’m dead 😂😂😂
Laying hands on the water heater. 😂 🙏 😂
Never laughed so hard! Dude Dad and Ginger Billy. The BEST!!!
Colorado transplant from Florida right at 10 years ago and I absolutely have been this sweet man...😂
I'm ok now though, coloRADo🎉
When you said, "Texas lands" I lost it! As a Texan I approve this message!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was hilarious. We hit -54F with a -83F windchill last week where I’m at in Canada, the school buses stop running at -40 but the schools stay open. We drop the kids off and continue on to work. Sometimes I wish I worked in the south so I could actually get a snow day for the first time in my life.
Oh I love all the Dude dad videos but I can’t even begin to tell y’all how spot on accurate this is!!!!! This is my new dude dad favorite!!!!
I love snow in the south. You get a little taste of true winter for a few days, and then it's gone till next year.
Best video. I live in Minneapolis and loved sharing this with my brother in Texas. The driving is spot on!!!
"The bread and Milk " must be global trend, it's usually the first sign of panic 😂
ours was fill up the propane and buy an extra tank (we're RVers)
😆😆 We legit had a couple inches of ice with 1/2 foot snow on top of it, and our kids have now been out of school for almost 2 weeks (they called off for an extra day before MLK for weather??). I don't think it got above freezing for the entire week last week!
Where is that?! Not the south I hope...
Gingerbilly! Yes! Also the part about digging 2 inches out of 4inches of flannel LOL
Hey! I had a GREAT snowcation last week! 😆 this was soooo us! We left the prayed, left the water running (we have a well), stocked the stove and stayed home! 😆 It was much needed. I couldn’t agree more with this video ❤
Snow near the road!
Classic😂
That was hilarious. Billy was hilarious too. I love his channel also.
The Texan was 😂. My hubby & I lived thru the 2021 snowmageddon (in East Texas) - in an RV! We were originally from northetn CA, but had been full time traveling in our RV as Texans for 12 years, so we had experienced many different tyes of weather - that was the coldest.
Now we're settled down in our final home in western Kentucky, for us now snow is a part of every winter! (Along with severe thunderstorms / tornados). Winter storm Heather didn't faze us, just as long as the electricity stayed on!
Hahahaha yes, a Ginger Billy collab! The collab everyone needs.
Dude Dad and Ginger Billy!! My dream has come true 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love this! Much love from snowy Pennsylvania ❤
It’s only snowed twice in the 23 years I’ve lived in the Houston area. One time they came out with a book in remembrance of the snow. Yes, we bought the book. 😂
lol 😂 this is so true! They shut down everything 😅😂
As a Tennessean who just saw the whole state of TN shut down from last week’s snowstorm, I approve this video 🤣
I’m a nurse. So I still went to work. It was nice not having many people on the roads!
🤣🤣Life in Huntsville, AL. "First, Nick Saban, now this!" Dead. 🤣
Native Texan with a husband who grew up in Alaska here. This is incredibly accurate and it is hilarious how quickly your vlood thins out once you move here. He sometimes gets colder than i do! 😂
So accurate… especially the praying!!!
Im in texas. I love when it snows and how it shuts everything down. Also enjoy watching all the folks that don't understand ice drive and walk.
I'm from Alaska, lived in Texas for 15 years, and now up in Michigan. So much truth here...🤣🤣🤦♂
