Former vaulter here… This shit is insanely tough. Our high school stopped having pole vault in the mid 80s and my dad brought it back in 2004. He placed 4th at State in 1971 and rebuilt the program in 04
RobHickman... if the testicle is dehydrated ans elongated in a vacuum chamber and then cured undered UV lamp light .. after applying resin polymer... one gets testicle pole!
My uncle's hs was competing in a statewide many-event athletic championship. He was a football and lacrosse player. His school was very good but they were just shy of the right number of possible points needed to go on to nationals. So they saw that they could still enter the pole vault and all they needed was to enter and clear a bar once. Just one jump... How hard could it be? So they got one of their lighter athletes and he volunteered to jump. So he walks up to the prep area and he checks his form and watches real close as the other teams go. So he builds up enough confidence to make the attempt. Finally it's his turn, nationals are on the line! He walks up, picks up the bar, bends it a few times, checks his run up distance, and he's looking good. He backs up, aims, runs, plants the bar perfectly, and sails into the sky! Not a moment later he shrieks and wraps himself around the pole, hanging momentarily suspended at the top of the vertical pole! The pole crashes to earth, still with him wrapped around it. He lays there stunned on the track as his team runs over. They ask him what happened and he screams, "I'm afraid of heights!" Apparently he figured it wouldn't be an issue for that short period and no one thought to ask him!
I ran track in high school and college and the vaulters are definitely a breed of their own. They all drink a different kind of Kool aid to volunteer for that. I never understand them but they were fun to watch
Three men at a prison were gathered by the warden and offered a chance to gain their freedom. The warden explained that if they can pole vault over the razor wire fence they can go home. The first man steps up and fails miserably. He's taken away to the infirmary to have his wounds tended to. The second man steps up and also fails. He walks away unharmed. The third man steps up and goes for freedom. He makes it over the fence and everyone is cheering for him, even the warden. The man is crying hysterically and the warden asks "why are you crying? You made it over the fence." The man responds, " yea, but my balls are still hanging up there."
Most other high school track and field events: “how far can you run?” Pole vault: “hey kid, here’s a 12ft pole, see if u can launch yourself over that bar”
@asgacc not at all. It was part of the curriculum because it's an Athletics' event. It was very mild anyways, begginer stuff with a much shorter pole and a lower bar, but it was cool to see how the mechanics worked. It's pretty much a compound of a lot of other events motions
@David Fernandez I see. So its included as part of curriculum so its easier for newbie to surpass the mental barrier because its being presented as normal stuff
@asgacc I was studying Sports Science and we had to do Pole vaulting as part of the Athletics curriculum. It's actually really fun and really fucking hard, by far the most technical event of the Athletics. You've to run with perfect form or you can't get any speed with the pole in your hands, then you have to jump exactly where you're supposed to or you'll fall short or eat the bar and finally you need a lot of strength and flexibility to fight the pole and avoid the bar. Once you get over the fear of hurting yourself it's a really cool sport
@mikeyiwnl I mean, if we go with by your logic. You're saying that everyone shouldn't be impressed with something out of their reach performed by other people? And that people should just be indifferent because a hard-work achievement isn't something to be proud of? Not everyone is the hardly impressed type like you okay, you're so cool and quirky bruh.
@Heilige Kuh, das ist eine sehr pog-Begrüßung Ok yeah the process of the skill being showcased is admirable no doubt about that, but I dont look at it and be like "woow that was so amazing" you know what Im sayin? ^^
You would think they would figure out how to design those poles to not snap like that. Does that happen because their technique is fucked up and they are putting too much bend on it? Or does the pole have too much mileage on it?
I went to the same high school as Lawrence Johnson a couple years after him but he used to work out there during the summers. he used to do some crazy shit. 4 ncaa titles and an Olympic silver
Did pole vault in middle school. Clipped the bar as I went over and it landed right under me on the mat and I snapped it. Thankfully it wasn’t the pole I jumped with and was just the cross beam, but they had to find one for the rest of the day
my coach said a kid died from pole vaulting at one of the meets he went to. didn’t push the pole away and landed on it. impaled him. still always wanted to do it for some reason
I bet the hardest part about this sport is trying not to think about that pole shattering into pieces while your whole body is upside down..which is the only time they break btw. I mean just imagine if every 10 or 20 times you pull back your bow to shoot an arrow, the bow just snaps into 5 or 6 pieces. How long before you pick another sport? 🤣
I was dead on the splash in the ocean 💀
What?
@ChaseOnVR earn it bro. Say something that will murder
hold on, this era does not laugh hard, we die 🔥💀
The hunted fish is come
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The guy at the end was smooth, even catching the pole
@William Keiper nasty
🤬🤬 ⚫️s
Sharigan
You like watching guys catch poles? Smoothly? Simpy simpy...
Imagine getting impaled by a 7 foot long splintered pole and then 10 seconds later you hear “heads up!”
@EnnPii Dumb ways to die~~ so many dumb ways to die
dumb ways to die-i-i-i
@EnnPii "Dumb ways to die, dumb ways to die, dumb ways to di-i-ie"
That's some 1000 Ways to Die shit
im sorry but the slow mo on the last one is just everything
@Kyle90 it's not that unlikely. This is likely a huge ass city school.
@Cloudy cap 🧢
Dude was the main character that day
He even looked like he did that sassy finger snap in the end before he caught the pole
How he caught it as he was bouncing back up and never missed a beat even as he slid over the top poll... That dude has God level status in pole vault
that “heads up!” was a tad late, sir 💀
He said be alert before it if you hear it carefully
@a_krew 11 ppp
@a_krew 11 0
@Asa D I don't see why not
@Andrew Martin exactlyyy! Dont know if ur being sarcastic tho lol hopefully not.
Imagine running from the police jumping every fence in the hood doing this😂
Done give them any ideas
Then hitting the ground and pass out
@Xzavier Mills never said they were
@Xzavier Mills you did tho 💀 “I’m from westside Atlanta 😂💯💪🏿”.
@Sami Sk gotta fail in order to succeed
Always expect the pole to break like that, amazing how such a narrow stuff does not end up like that all the time
Former vaulter here… This shit is insanely tough. Our high school stopped having pole vault in the mid 80s and my dad brought it back in 2004. He placed 4th at State in 1971 and rebuilt the program in 04
I love how this man had time for everything, even to bend his legs in a better position to not hurt himself. This man is living in slow motion.
As a pole vaulter I'm deathly afraid of the pole snapping and I've seen it happen.
The last guy knew exactly what he was doing ... 👏
guy in my high school lost a testicle pole vaulting.
@Wubba Lubba Dub DubIncorrect
best comment
RobHickman... if the testicle is dehydrated ans elongated in a vacuum chamber and then cured undered UV lamp light .. after applying resin polymer... one gets testicle pole!
Lost?
Did he find it back again?
.
Or was it like.. somebody stole it?
It's true. I was the testicle
Seriously one of the hardest skills to achieve for any track and field athlete
I love how the slow motion one looked like he was giving a 'fresh attitude snap' just before the catch. That was perfect!
How anyone gets the courage up to even begin this sport is
pretty impressive!
I always hated it when I didn't have enough speed to complete the jump. What I really hated was when I had too much and missed the foam pit.
Dude I can’t believe that stick actually held up all the way thru lol. Almost as impressive as his form.
That "yes" at the end sounded like a video game character 😂
yes

Really duped us with the last one like it was gonna be a fail 😂😂😂

Zawsze chciałam uprawiać ten sport, szacun
Trained for this event when I was 13 it's a lot harder and dangerous than people think.
@King Fargo I never did it before honestly, but it does look pretty easy. I could learn this in a day, two day tops
Who tf says poke vaults is easy?
@Shane Reiter I would fear for my life even if I was just a spectator.
I don't think anyone looks at pole vaulting and thinks it's easy or safe lol
While most of these reinforced my aversion to pole vaulting, the first one gave a sliver of hope that hey, maybe I could it try it it looks pretty fun
Thank you for the win at the end, much respect for the sport 👍
The guy at the end who cleared his jump was SOOOO under when he planted, i was amazed at how quickly he turned up to inversion.
All prisoners should have to learn this. If you make it over, you win, prize is you are free.
Or have the Mexicans pole vault over the wall lol
@V I've been laughing HYSTERICALLY at this for a good minute
The catch... you need to clear razor wire.

I’ve always thought that pole vaulting was such a cool ass sport. You need CRAZY core strength for it
Most other high school track and field events: “how far can you run?” Pole vault: “hey kid, here’s a 12ft pole, see if u can launch yourself over that bar”

I dont get how someone can be convinced that this is what they gonna do. Like what is their thought process.
The last one was amazing.
@r p
Whatever dude but I totally expected the white dudes to be better than the black dude. Just goes to show you you don’t judge a book by its cover!
@Heilige Kuh, das ist eine sehr pog-Begrüßung Was meinst du mit „insane“ das macht jeder fünfte Stabhochspringer.
he was on his miles morales
@mikeyiwnl I mean, if we go with by your logic. You're saying that everyone shouldn't be impressed with something out of their reach performed by other people? the second one is my hero. At the top of the pole he's like .... "I have decided not to pole-vault today. I am going home now" ...
* gets down
The first dude doing it with a stick on the beach is my hero
You would think they would figure out how to design those poles to not snap like that. Does that happen because their technique is fucked up and they are putting too much bend on it? Or does the pole have too much mileage on it?
Watching the last one in slow motion...you really can appreciate how tough that is. Good choice.
Such a challenging sport. I have a lot of respect for these athletes.
Looks pretty easy
I loved watching the second guy do a fast climb down his pole.
The "Yes" had me dying💀
That last one really made me appreciate this sport 👏
The most astounding thing in this video is the branch not snapping on that first one
I don't know how anyone is able to pole vault. It's amazing but looks really scary
I was like the guy who broke his pole. Of course I weighed 220lbs so maybe it wasn't my best T&F choice.
Interesting fact, there's no rules as to what material or length the pole should be
I went to the same high school as Lawrence Johnson a couple years after him but he used to work out there during the summers. he used to do some crazy shit. 4 ncaa titles and an Olympic silver
If you don’t make it, it’s your own damn vault!
When you really think about it, pole vaulting is totally insane.
My great grandfather held the Washington state record for long time in the 30s in pole vault
Bruh on the last one perfectly done 💯
Yesssss!!!!! 👊🤣the last one always comes out better!!!
But he is right, most vegetables come from ground and so they are dirt.😂
Pole vaulting seems like such an awkward movement but looks really cool
Second to last one got me laughing 😂
broken pole, that can be plot to some final destination shit 😂
The third guy is gonna have some trust issues, I think he'll never ever do it again, man's left traumatized 😂
Good Pole Vaulters always blow my mind! They are the elite of the elite of athletes ❤
I can just feel that dudes heart drop as his pole broke
Every single movement was perfect in the last one 🔥🔥🔥
last guy was so smooth and caught the pole once he landed
But you see, in my mind I can do this.🤔 Not thinking about how it's an Olympic sport. But I swear I can do this and pole vault from roof to roof. 😌.
it's always "you go girl" at the end when they bring their arm back over.
Bro that yes had me dying laughing 😂
Imagine doing this with a full set of armor and a weapon
Last one was living his mc moment
A pole vaulter in my country fell too early and not fully on the mat and ended up paralyzed, I'm convinced ski jumping is safer.
I think we should have a second pole vault that is for distance rather than height.
"Damn, so that's how they jumped over my fence"-👴🏻
Like the one, "Heads up!" after the pole snapped! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The last guy was bending space, time and matter!!
Bro I love the noise the pole makes when it snaps
That guy that actually makes it -- I thought for sure he would fail. Amazing how the physics works.
I HAVE MAD RESPECT FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO CAN PUT THEIR CONFIDENCE IN THAT VAULTING POLE. I JUST DIDN'T GET THAT GENE!!!!!😁😁😁
So genuine question but if the pole breaks like in one of the attempts do they get a retry or are they just done?
The “Be alert, Heads up!” Was in a perfect southern accent
I have seen this video multiple times but I never understood the meaning behind the line, " that catch tho😂".
Pole vaulting is a sport I would never try😂
That last jump was spot on perfect
Do you have any idea how hard it's supposed to be, to break one of those
The last one was impeccable, jaw dropping form. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
damn who honestly thought that last guy would make it! Incredible
"Watch out", "be alert!", "Heads up!"
Me teaching different ways of warning people in my English class
Did pole vault in middle school. Clipped the bar as I went over and it landed right under me on the mat and I snapped it. Thankfully it wasn’t the pole I jumped with and was just the cross beam, but they had to find one for the rest of the day

Someone invent a damn pole that won't break already!
I have a new respect for this. But also I have to look up the fails 😆
Вот это да, большое спасибо за видео! А мне 37 лет и к сожалению у меня доченька с ограниченными возможностями... Я тоже создала канал и пытаюсь двигаться в этом направлении, правда пока мало что получается((

Looks so damn fun honestly
4 yrs in h.s., 1 in college. It's a individual sport. And I'd do it again if I physically could.
Can you imagine one of these dudes running from the cops
“woah” “watch out” “ be alert” “heads up” 😂😂
lmao the “yEs” at the end had me dead💀😂
A tradition from them good ol' days👴
I don't know why my reaction is to duck and run anywhere whenever someone shoutout "heads up"
1st : Training
2nd : lemme rethink my life choices
3rd: here's how to make a homemade Roket!!!!
4th: watch me y'all 🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥✨✨✨
I almost asphyxiated on that last one!
who else thought the last one was going to be a fail
but got surprised 🙋🏻♀️
“If you don’t make it, it’s your own damn vault”
so no ones gonna talk about the 2nd one how nicely he managed not to fall down!
Who decided one day “I wonder how high I can go if I use a stick”
I bet the hardest part about this sport is trying not to think about that pole shattering into pieces while your whole body is upside down..which is the only time they break btw. I mean just imagine if every 10 or 20 times you pull back your bow to shoot an arrow, the bow just snaps into 5 or 6 pieces. How long before you pick another sport? 🤣
I was expecting for a video where a pole hits a man in-between his legs.
This video exists, I saw it, and I want to find it again
okay, but imagine you pole jump, and then after you jumped, the pole falls down below your chest before you fall, so you get impaled
