I remember when this record came out in England and an interviewer asked Phil “why on earth would a drummer use a drum machine” he replied “because a drummer would get bored with three and a half minutes of the same thing,and I wanted it to sound relentless until the big surprise came” seems he was right. Coops is showing patience in the build up coz the payoff comes later.
A drum machine is programmed to be consistently perfect… in this case for that “boring 3:30 minutes” opposed to a human who no matter how good a drummer can not duplicate the exact sound repetitively
This just reminded me why I believe Phil Collins is the best drummer who has ever lived! I can't believe the wind that guy has, I can't imagine singing t the same time?!?!

The sound of the drums was a actually founded by mistake when the talk back microphone in the console was left on whike tracking and they router it to the board to get that huge compression sound

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I always thought the drummer was the hardest working person in the band and that everything revolved around him. He keeps everybody in check. This is obviously a passion of yours not just a hobby and I hope you do well with it.

It's actually so wonderfully composed. The drummer plays the same beat for over 4 mins, and it's sort of a release of energy. Phil Collins really did a good job on this track.

Sensitive much?? Lighten up. When this guy plays like Neal Peart he can get as many drums as he wants. PLUS when you look at Pearts set you can see the typical jazz set up hidden within all those other drums.Snare, one tom one floor tom.
OK, but the main drumming is not quite the actual pattern. It's a flam on toms with bass drum in between. There's also snare ghost roll before accents. Timing is a little off, but good over all.
