Abbott’s decision comes after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted unanimously Thursday to recommend a full pardon and the restoration of firearm rights for Perry, who was sentenced last year to 25 years in prison. Shortly after he was pardoned, Perry was released from Texas Department of Criminal Justice custody, a spokesperson for the agency told CNN."

Funny, how this man believes a gun might be pointed at him is sufficient reason to shoot but how many times did Killer Kyle Rittenhouse point his gun at that crowd but those people were not entitled to defend themselves.
Rittenhouse was on film, just as this one was. Rittenhouse and Perry did the correct thing. Austin dunce hats and a corrupt prosecutor should be ashamed for bad verdict that should never have been placed before a court of law. Instead they condemned a man in fear of a violent populace.

It is my understanding that only non-violent felons are eligible for a pardon from a governor, but I could be wrong.

Good point. When a crowd of protesters surround someone they should be charged with interfering with the freedom of people's right to move about and travel freely or abduction.. He drove his car into a crowd of protesters, some with guns. One holds his gun to defend himself, Perry uses his gun to defend himself against someone who is defending himself from a car driving through a crowd of people. If the protester shot the car driver in attempt to defend himself, would he be charged with murder? Would he be pardoned?
Streets are for cars not pedestrians.
Guy was just trying to get home and got ambushed by rioters - one of the rioters raised his AK - and the guy used lethal force to defend his person. That's it.

A jury in Austin had convicted Perry of murder in the death of 28-year-old Garrett Foster, an air force veteran who had been legally carrying an AK-47 while marching in a Black Lives Matter protest. Prosecutors argued at trial that Perry could have driven away without opening fire and witnesses testified that they never saw Foster raise his gun. The sergeant’s defense attorneys argued Foster, who was white, did raise the rifle and that Perry had no choice but to shoot. Perry, who is also white, did not take the witness stand and jurors deliberated for two days before finding him guilty.
Court records released in April showed that in the weeks leading up to the murder, Perry sent racist messages about protesters, shared white supremacist memes and talked about how he “might have to kill a few people” who were demonstrating outside his house. - The Guardian.

Here's the bottom line: Perry was working as an Uber driver, meaning he was doing his job at the time which requires him to make rounds throughout the city of Austin. Protesters deliberately blocked the roads (which is illegal), then surrounded and attacked Perry's vehicle for doing nothing more than honking his horn at them. We have seen this same scenario thousands of times across the US from far-left mobs and they seem to believe this behavior is protected.
PS ALL the "witnesses" who said Foster wasn't pointing the gun at Perry were "BLM".

Why is this even questioned! The BLM protestor was a White Air Force Veteran with a lock and loaded AK 47 and was going to use it. The Army Seargeant was unfairly prosecuted in the most Liberal City in the State of Texas - Austin (simultaneously, they were pushing defunding of their Police Force). Murder rate sky rocketed just like Minneapolis. This is a case of mess around and find out. It was going to happen either way because in Minneapolis, Seattle, Saint Louis, and Portland, innocent people of all races were murdered by BLM protestors. First off, I'm Not a conservative, secondly, I don't like Trump; just so everyone understands.
I carry guns, I have a Glock 17, a Glock 43x and a Mini Draco (AK Pistol with a standard 30 round magazine) on a single point sling that fits nicely under my ankle length duster coat.
Never had an issue with carrying as I carry concealed, though the State of Georgia has permit-less carry, I still have a permit to enjoy reciprocity in over 30 States I may travel through.
The few times I had contact with law enforcement, I have my permit at the ready as I volunteer what I have and where on my person; my carry permit is recognized by over 30 States other than Georgia.
I don't like open carry, makes people around nervous.
The first time I carried openly, my car was in the shop, I was able to walk the few blocks to the FFL where I made final payment on a WASR, (Pronounced Wa-Sir) called the 911 Dispatch non-emergence number ahead of time to inform them what I was getting, why I was walking and where I was heading; in case they received calls.
The WASR was shouldered on my back, but the few blocks I walked home, not comfortable. One woman in a car was looking at me so strongly, she nearly drove onto the sidewalk at me before she realized she was going to crash and turned away. I've opened carry only one other time since then.
