- What does living in Thailand REALLY cost? Here's a breakdown of my expenses for the first 90 days after retiring from the USA and moving here. Everything I spent so you can see what the cost of living in Thailand is like. I think you'll be surprised at how much it costs to live in Pattaya. I know I was!

Wow, life is good! What's your target monthly budget? Many of you are asking for my Visa agent's contact info so I've added a link in the description.
Aloha! My wife and I will be retiring in a few years to either Hua Hin or Ko Samui from Hawaii. Our conservative monthly budget is $5K a month and already preparing for the move by downsizing all our material things. Much appreciated on all the information.
Awesome video Michael thanks for the inspiration!❤😊🎉 Ralph from Titusville Florida USA Space Coast
I am a widow and lived in Chiang Mai for a year in 2019.
My expenses, all out, everything came to $1150 per month. Not joking.
I lived across from the mall, explored the area, participated in local English speaking theater, and had a blast. I was STUNNED by how easy it was, how safe I felt, and how inexpensive daily living was. I'll be returning once I become eligible for Social Security....
Thanks for watching Beverly.
where do you live now?? still in Thailand?
Were you in Chiang Mai during the "burning season"? If so, how did you deal with the pollution?
@@Kinai89 I left back to America just as Covid was hitting. My retirement visa was running out and I wanted to get back stateside to finish out my work life and save for a glorious final finish, with good income once I officially retire. But I will definitely be back, in a couple years.
How was it to leave there as a single woman I leave in Australia thinking of changing 🤔
Niagara Falls Canada here! Thanks so much for sharing. We're coming this fall for our first visit. Want to retire in SE Asia. Thailand is top of our list to check out!

Hi Michael, jayCee here from Seoul. I enjoy watching your videos which inspire me to make a move quick rather than sitting here and just getting vicarious satisfaction from youtubers like yourself. Thanks for your contents and looking forward to seeing more contents of your happy life.
Don't wait. Get out there.
I visited Thailand last year. I've been before, back in my 20s. I'm now 67. That was a 30 day due diligence trip. No real surprises. I had an international career and I've spent a fair amount of time in Asia, as well as other cultures around the world, so I'm comfortable pretty much anywhere. I'm thinking Wong Amat / Na Kluea, initially. Possibly Bang Saray. Then explore from there... Hua Hin, Chang Mi, Koh Samui. Only thing holding me back are the new tax policy considerstions. But if those are a negative, I may do the 179 days here, 90 days there, a few months back in the States thing. Still contemplating. Just want to thank you for the info you provide. It helps with the decision making process! Keep 'em coming. 😊
Oh, almost forgot... PNW of the U.S. at the moment.
Alaska checking in thanks for the terrific videos and keep them coming
Brrrr! 🥶 Thank you.

Super smart move to use an agent. :) Good call. Good job in taking into account health insurance - something most people ignore, possibly to their detriment.
Definitely worth having insurance
Cheers from NC in the USA! Loving the videos brother!

USA - Vegas. Making my 2nd trip back in April. Retiring to Thailand in 5 years. Can’t wait!
That's great. Stick to the plan. You'll love it.
Thanks for the video and info. Last year, I lived in the Jomtien area for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week without buying any LDs and barfines. I did not eat any western food due way more expensive and been eating Thai food in the market. In my early 50's now, I was planning to retire but I changed my mind in the very last second and back to work in CA. Will do this again, next year.
That pizza is the only non-Thai food I've had in 3 months. 🤣
Everyone say 1500 or 2k a month. Glad you were honest with a 3k number. Every time I crunch my numbers I feel like I will need 3k as well. Plus that doesn’t cover my travel expenses. So I would need another 5-10k a year for that.
@@BirdDog. Exactly, you will need more than enough. Everything way too expensive nowadays and all the establishments owned by the westerners, that's the reason. Looks like you not in Thailand anymore. Better be off to Manila.
North Devon in the UK, really enjoyed your vlogs 🎥😎👏

Thanks, Wendy. Hope you enjoyed your trip.
I like it and plan to move to Pattaya sometime this year. I am in CA.
Great! Thanks for watching.
Excellent video.😊
Thank you
You are so correct about the health care I'm in the Philippines right now but I left the US to have some major dental work done in Bangkok Thailand over the 8 months I was in Thailand a few years back, the results were excellent but 40 percent less than what I was quote in the US a few years back. Ever since I've been living 6 mos. a year in Jomtien Thailand and 6 months in Mikati Philippines I love both.
That sounds great
Watching from New Jersey, will toast with you at the expat retirement shindig in 2025! I had emergency surgery and 3 days at Bangkok Hospital Chonburi last year, surgeon was amazing, so was the hospital and had a crush on all the adorable and caring Thai nurses.
Cheers

Hello watching your video from south of France! Thank you for all the good info. Where do you learn thai?
I chose Pattaya Jomtien Language School.
Watching near Khon Kaen in Isaan. I left Texas in July 2022. Bought and sold a condo in Phuket. Bought a brand new truck and now building a new house up here.
Sounds great.
Congrats on 90 days! I’m not far behind you.😊

I have been to Thailand around 30 times set up bank account last visit will get driving licence when I visit in November ready to move over in a couple of years .enjoy your retirement
🤣 I'm familiar with it. Thanks for watching.
HI, checking in from right here in the Riviera Jomtien. Budget around 45k Baht ($1260) a month and 55k savings ($1540). I use my agent for many things besides just the visa and DL. They are very knowledgable about almost all aspects of life here and how to get things done.
Thanks for checking in neighbor.
From UK. I think you did plenty of research before electing the Thai language course you are on. It would be good to have some feedback as you progress. Many thanks
Will do. Thanks.
From NH and same age as you....leaving in September to one of the three...Thailand, Vietnam or the Philippines. I want the stress-free live also.
It's waiting for you. Go get it!
Hey... Nice video... As for me... Watching from Ireland
Awesome, thanks.
Thanks Michael, for excellent information. Would you mind sharing the agency you used for retirement visa, bank acct and drivers license. Also the order & timeline - like first bank account, 3 weeks to secure retirement visa, after that one week for car/ motorbike license.
Looking at this, is the 2 months visitors visa preferable to 30-day visa exemption, at the time of first entry. From US.
Great question. Since I'm on a "retirement visa" there's a bank deposit maintenance required, so bank account first, then visa. You can do them on a 30 day entry but you've got to start within a day or 2 of arrival. Once the visa is back, it's off to get a license. I used So Good Visa here in Pattaya. Tell Aom I sent you. She's great. Bank account 1 hour, visa 3-4 weeks, license 1 hour. Watch my other video on things to do before you come to be sure you're ready.
Watching from the USA.
Awesome thanks
Watching from Belgium !!!
Thanks for watching.
I live in Canada. I can't wait to get back to Thailand.
Thanks for watching
I am from USA. I was there in January. Planning on my return in January
Great time to visit.
17000 baht a month for a contract condo is almost crazy expensive like airbnb price . i paid 11000+ water/electricy to market price for my condo in central Bangkok with 1 year contract studio with bath and kitchen washing machine condo. And it had gym and pool
Thanks for watching.
Watching from south of Brazil where a huge germany colony Live.
Thank you
Watching from CA, counting down the weeks till after Songkran for my return...lol... I did the move by accident, got trapped in Thailand when the borders were closed for COVID... Did all the setup during the slow times... Originally budgeted $3k/month... spending nowhere near that, struggle to reach $2k/mon... lol... rent 10k baht/mon near Big C extra... considering moving but location is too good/central... See ya around... cheers...
See you when you're back.
Watching from Florida...In a year or so, we will be in Krabi...
Thanks for watching
Watching from Aus. Planning to retire in Pattaya in 3 years
Great plan
Greetings and Salutations from Corpus Christi Texas.
A few people in Corpus are watching. Thank you.
$900 is very good and could even be lower since there are rents lower than 17,000 Baht. The 1K budget is confirmed again.
Yes definitely. I think I mentioned rent could be much lower. It's all about individual needs and preferences.
Listening from Canada.
Thank you

Thanks for watching. They are beautiful, kind and deserving of respect.
Very informative video.
Thank you very much.
I am now a subscriber. 👍😊
Who did you use to port your phone number?
Tello is my new provider
I’d use an agent just for peace of mind. I’m in the US and specifically eastern Washington state
Great, thanks.
Hi Michael, can I set the health insurance up when I arrive there or do I have to do it before?
Can do it here. I did.
@@RetiringToAsia ok thanks 👍
So you know that life isn't about working; I stopped nine years ago; I love having my time to myself; look you up when I move there😎
Definitely. I'll be here.
I had to correct myselff
Great that you've found your idea retirement location and lifestyle. I listened 5 times to your initial rental costs and I don't understand why upfront 1st months costs total $3785 for a $470 per month condo?
Ok, later on I hear and understand that you paid 6 months rent in advance included in that $3785. Great post Michael!
6 months rent, 2 months deposit...8 months amount.
From Las Vegas here
Very cool, thanks.
I’m from Tampa Florida age 57 my wife is 61 , I’ve been enjoying your videos. I won’t bother you with our details but my wife and I will probably move to Thailand for about a year or two but she is from the Philippines so we will probably fully retire there. In my opinion Thailand seems to do condo living so much better than Philippines, what’s your thoughts on the difference between Philippines and Thailand, thanks and have a great day
I haven't visited there yet. I chose Thailand over Philippines because travel seemed easier.
Do you have any knowledge of the new taxation system in Thailand that many are talking about and how it will affect you and other foreigners living there?
@@rcardoosuna6491 no first I’ve heard of it
Great video! Could you tell me the contact information for the agent you used? I’m escaping from the 🇺🇸
I put her information in the video description. Thanks for watching.
Hey Michael, I'm not sure if you covered this. Can I just go to Thailand on the Tourist Visa, get the extensions etc to set up the new retired life, or do I need to get a visa from the Thai embassy in my home country? I'd rather just pack up and go and sort it out there, but not sure of the hassle factor.
I came on 30 day tourist exemption and had my long-term set up by end of the month
@@RetiringToAsia YES!!! thanks man. Jomtien/Pattaya is my fav area, so when I get over there I'll buy you a beer. Cheers.
