    god, that's sad that he looked so ill his friends thought he had AIDS. coroner's report allegedly said that he had advanced leukemia. he must have been in so much pain. there's some great clips of shows from his last year of life here on YT, he looks so rough, but his voice, the guitar..that still had so much life. He was, in some ways, kind of a mysterious, secretive person. We might not ever know what actually happened to him. RIP JOHNNY -- there will never be another!!!

    • @nothx962
      @nothx962 Před 5 lety +8

      One of the best comments I've read on Johnny Thunders comment sections. I feel like I could have written this comment myself. I do think however he was Beat to Death and dosed with some bad acid due to all of his money from his tour from Japan being stolen along with some of his prized guitars and the majority of his methadone. I think the guys who did it left enough methadone to make it look like an OD but they said the levels in his system were non-fatal and there were some sketchy people in that area, always, but that night in particular. Johnny was tough and smart but if someone hits you with the bad dose of acid (whether they drop it your drink or hold you down and force you to take it) and it's potent enough you are simply going to wig out. People say he took a bunch of methadone to try to come down and that's what killed him, but methadone takes forever to leave your system and the levels would still have been lethal in the toxicology report. Acid however will be long gone from the system in just a short period of time. Im open to other theories, we will never know.

    • @nothx962
      @nothx962 Před 5 lety +9

      That being said thats just my theory, I agree with you theres 7, 8, maybe 15 ways or more it coulda went down, coulda been the leukemia but I doubt he would be rocking so hard the last year of his life with non treated leukemkia if you were months from dying...though it would have, again in my opinion, a serious problem and probably have killed him by the mid late 90s if untreated. We will never know, as you said :/ RIP Johnny, changed the guitar, the scene, and my life forever. Also RIP to guys like Billy Murica, Jerry Nolan, Stiv Bators, Dee Dee Ramone, Willie, Razzle, Marc Bolan and many more.

    @baronsaturday9529 Před rokem +3

    Wow... New Orleans is a rough town, I think Johnny had a more romantic idea of it, but it doesn't seem like an easy area when you don't know too many people. Everybody seems to be incredibly poor and everybody's hustling and doing drink & drugs. And after Johnny died Mink DeVille just takes stuff from him; sunglasses, a hat, a jacket, etc. But who knows, maybe Johnny would have wanted him to have it. He came to NO because he wanted to make a record in the style that DeVille just made, he loved that record. (Also because he wanted to go there for years, and "to make a blues record with a bunch of old black blues musicians, and make them some money..") He saved up a lot of songs over the years, but never got the chance to bring them out. What a fucking shame.. He was also dying of Leukemia, if you look at the autopsy report in 'Looking For Johnny' he had advanced Leukemia and beginning cirrhosis of the liver, no HIV like many think. He knew he had Leukemia from the day his daughter was born in that hospital in Sweden in '88, I think he never told a lot of people because he wanted to protect his girlfriend and newborn daughter Jamie from that news...

      I grew up in NOLA, and I still live here. Easily could've been a hundred people that rolled him for dope or money or whatever. Everybody acts friendly around here but if you don't know who they are it's easy to get taken in. We had a friend a few years ago that came down from NYC to see us play and met a girl in a bar, took her for a walk, got robbed at gunpoint from her actual boyfriend and then beaten so badly he was in the hospital for weeks. Happens every day, not as much anymore in the quarter since you have to almost be wealthy to live in most places, but it has always happened and probably always will.

      Justin Case ur an idiot ur watching a thunders doc. he revolutionized glam and even tho he never considered himself a punk he spearheaded the punk movement and inspired many many bands to come. and then those bands would go on to inspire more, and start “movements” of their own. Example; the sex pistols (one of the most influential punk bands)even tho u can tell the sound apart the pistols were heavily inspired by the dolls more specifically him; then the pistols would go on to inspire bands like nirvana, which is also another very influential band

      i may have a small penis but I may be an idiot, but JT was still a much bigger idiot than me.
      I really don’t give a crap about if or how many other idiots he influenced. The guy couldn’t play, couldn’t sing, couldn’t write and was a drug addict and that eventually killed him. He was a complete loser. Whoever feels influenced by someone like him needs professional help.

      Justin Case are you stupid or something? u have nothing rly to say other then he’s a drug addict and couldn’t play or anything, CUS HE WAS SMACKED OUT. it’s unfortunate but that’s how the punk scene was in the 70s everybody was high and most the bands were dogshit but it was about the lyrics and attitude
