The Caipirinha - what to drink when it's hot!
Vložit

- Today I'm making the Caipirinha! The tart lime and grassy cachaça are what make this the perfect drink for when it's hot outside. Not to worry if you don't have cachaça (though I recommend trying some), this formula works with other spirits too! Try it with vodka for an equally refreshing drink called the Caipiroska or Caipivodka - or mix in some other fruits for a Caipifruta! Both excellent, and both stemming from the classic Caipirinha. If you're somewhere warm and need to beat the heat - this one's for you! Cheers!

The other drink I enjoyed in Brazil was blended scotch (JW Black) with fresh coconut water. Who knew? 🥃🥥
That is good too! And with a little bit of a soft drink called Coco Rico. But Don Q Cristal and Coco Rico is the best. So refreshing it’s almost sinful.
Don’t know but would like. Any idea of the recipe ?
They're truly an enlightened people, can't wait for more from their culture!
Do you know the ratios of scotch to coconut water?
It’s delicious! Also, santo grau is a fantastic banana funky cachaca which is a party in your mouth. Chefs kiss*
During the summer of 2011, I spent 2 weeks in Brazil on a study abroad trip with a research team in the Amazon. We spent the whole two weeks on a giant river boat; doing an ecological study. Our nights were spent drinking caipirinhas and eating local fish. Our boat staff had a bartender and our caipirinhas were 1 USD a piece... so we got trashed most nights. It was a phenomenal experience, and has enshrined the caipirinha as one of my all time favorites.
Love this!
Hey Anders, as a Brazilian I’d like to explain the whole Caipiroska thing! The most common and widely available labels of Cachaça are usually very low quality and have very unpleasant acetone and methanol notes to them! Thus, a lot of Brazilians don’t actually know good quality Cachaça and, well, low quality vodka is usually less offensive to the palate than its Brazilian counterpart! Normally, the best quality labels (that aren’t usually too expensive) are highly local and can’t get themselves into the shelves of supermarkets, requiring the knowledge and good will of going into specialised local products shops. That being said, it’s not too uncommon to come across another variation of the cocktail made with Cuban style rum. It’s called the Caipiríssima and it is also quite good!
The bar I worked on would serve tons of Sake-based caipirinha, we also served steinhaegger-based caipirinha.
51 and Velho Barreiro caipirinhas taste great tho
Salinas is the best supermarket cachaça and only my opinion matters.
Sakerina, Capirinha with Sake was very common in São Paulo some time ago, in a time people hated Gin, but people just stop asking it for some reason, and now is just GT's everywere.
People dont know good cachaças because they are convinced that is better to pay 100 reais in a medium quality whiskey wich 50% of the price is import taxes and spends, than in a great cachaça made locally.
Its not about the taste, its not about the access, its about to look fancy. Man think they are in a movie when they are chosing a whiskey, they think the bartender looks to him and think "thats a cool, rich and very masculine, what a man!". The same for cognac. But whiskey guys want to feel sophisticated and cognac guys wants to feel gangster. Some of them are.
I am also Brazilian and I approve this message. Although I would make a couple of caveats... First, the rum variation exists, but it's very uncommon. Second, a big part of caipirinha's popularity is exactly to mask the unpleasantness of low quality cachaça... so... caipiroska is mostly popular with people ordering it on restaurants and bars when the price difference is negligible.. otherwise you just make a cheap caipirinha in your party with the poor quality cachaça, if you're going for a low budget option... or you actually get a good cachaça and drink the real thing.
I was going to skip this video, because I’m from Brazil, and I was like “meh, I like this guy but I don’t wanna see people making caipirinha with Cachaça 51, it will bum me out”. I’M SO SURPRISED. Not only the recipe was perfect, he actually used a good quality cachaça. Thumbs up!
eu particularmente prefiro com jamel! kkkk
@@salvadias4050 LOL!!!! Rindo litros!!
The best cachaça to make caipirinha is the cheapest like 51 and velho barreiro. And it must be the white type
I'm from Brazil and agree 100% with you. Cachaça is wayyyyy better than vodka. A decade ago when you visit our country, the cachaça industry evolve a lot by them. Now theres some top shelf labels aged in so many types of wood barrels that is so smooth. Cheers Anders!
Time for me to return!

I was always under the impression that the vodka thing was started by tourists that wanted something "familiar"? and/or that it'd started because there were so many pretty bad cachaças that'd give you a terrible hangover..
Lovely stuff as always, Anders. Brazilian bartender here, very proud that you got all the history spot on. I don't know if you've tried Brazil's #2 cocktail, the "Rabo de Galo", or literaly 'cocktail' in portuguese. It's 2oz Aged Cachaça, 3/4oz Sweet Vermouth, 3/4oz Cynar. Stirred, lime twist, served in a coupe. Sort of like a Brazilian Boulevardier from the 60s. Love your channel man!
Love the Cynar touch, muito bom.
Just saw a Rabo de Galo video from him. So you're responsible for that...
I am a Brazilian and I love a good caipirinha. I have been following the channel for a few months and I am crazy for classics. I am glad you are making the caipirinha, thanks for the awesome content as always.
Cheers to you! 🇧🇷
Pena que ele não fez a receita original 🥲
Much like the old fashioned, the simplicity of the recipe means that the technical parts of mixing are that much more important. I’d say there’s just as much teaching value to a video like this as there is to a really complicated cocktail!
Hi Anders! All right?
Dude, this is one of the best video recipes about "How To Make Caipirinha" in english version. Many details about how the Caipirinha born (talking about the first medicinal recipe) or how in Brazil u can aged the spiriti in diferente brazilian wood was amazing!
Caipirinha is something soo tipical, thant every single brazilian have an uncle in the family who make "the best caipirinha". The only care for my in the recipe is try to not muddle the lemon peel, always try to do it gently.
Great video bro! greetings from Caipirinha Land!!
Bom te ver aqui, Puma

Here in Brasil now we are in 'high' demand for cocktails. So we've been drinking pretty much the same over there. Two of the most popular drinks now, besides of Caipirinha, is Negroni and Moskow Mule
If you like Negroni try making a Saturn. Its a staple of tiki bars and is a good gin based cocktail
Ingredients:
1 ounce gin
.5 ounce dark rum
.5 ounce Campari
.5 ounce sweet vermouth
.5 ounce Falernum
1 ounce lemon juice
.5 ounce orgeat
.25 ounce passion fruit
.13 ounce 2:1 evaporated cane simple
Orgeat and falaernum are two specialty syrups used frequently in tiki cocktails, but you can substitute for them. Orgeat has a orange flower and almond flavor and falernum has a spicy horchata, almond, ginger and lime flavor. So replace the .5oz of each with some combo of a squeeze of lime, ginger beer, amaretto, grenadine, and orange juice.
Method: conbine it all stir my man
Strain Saturn over crushed ice.
For extra fancy and alcoholic make a Kingston negroni and float it on top
Kingston Negroni (dark rum, Campari, sweet vermouth) and float on top without mixing into drink.
Garnish with an orange moon and slice of pineapple.
The weather in England is actually beautifully sunny and warm today (for once!) so I am extremely excited to make this one asap! Especially with all that sugar and crushed ice, wow. Also the haircut looks great! Happy Friday guys :)
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the sun and cocktail- Cheers!
Yup, the weather in England is still very good, just made 3 mojitos last night!!! Keep up the great work Anders!!!
Another great drink from Brazil is called Rabo de galo which literally means "cock tail" translated to Portuguese, and it's awesome.
Its cachaça, cynar and red vermouth with a lime zest.
This Cachaça you are using is from my place
nearby my city!
You should come over and visit Morretes (the city where this cachaça is made) and taste the tradicional dish from here, Barreado
it's the perfect combination for a good cachaça or a caipirinha!
Let's go!!! Brazil in the house hehehe great to see the story and you bringing our home drink to the channel! We love Caipirinha, actually I'll be making one right now! Nice haircut Anders! And cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thanks, Joao! Cheers to you! 🇧🇷
so happy to see brasil here :)
Highly underrated cocktail. Had a heap of them on the street at carnivale and at bars on the coast. Youre right vodka was everywhere but it misses the flavour that cachaca brings.
ok, this video made me realize that here in Rio Grande do Sul we drink it differently, It's the traditional drink for barbecues here, so if we're in family/with friends we actually use a BIG wooden cup (approximately 1L/~35oz) and everyone will drink from the same cup. Because of that and the colder clime we use around 2 limes for 600ml of cachaça and much less ICE, only in cubes also.
This was the first cocktail I ever had. Could not have been happier as it mixed some of my favourite flavours together. Will have to try with an aged cachaça!
The caipirinha has been my favorite cocktail for years now. It's also really tasty if you grind up demerara sugar and use that, and top it off with a splash of soda water. Really good with a little muddled cucumber or mint as well, if you want try some variation.
Love the variations. Cheers!
I’ve had it “mojito” style with muddled mint - delicious!
Thank you for not only showing us how to make cocktails but teaching history, backstory and foundations that make these cocktails so great! I always enjoy your videos!
I was just recently introduced to this cocktail, but it is now one of my favourite summer cocktails ever. Brazil - well done :)
Loved the drawn elements, and the effort, keep increasing the production value! Cheers!
In Portugal we have it with brown sugar. We call it yellow sugar or moreno.
Goes great with barbecue
How timely! I was in DC last week and was reminded of how much I love this drink...just in time for summer!
Love your videos man! It's quite nice how you approach to every drink
Awesome video Anders. Brazillian here. I´m following the channel for quite a while now and trying my best to prepare some of the cocktails. Happy to hear that you like Caipinha and Cachaça. And I agree 100% with you cachaça is truly the right spirit for this drink. Cheers!!!
Beyond excellent vid! Classy, classic and always amusing!
Can't tell how anxious was I waiting for this video! I'm Brazilian, I love all kinds of cocktails, but Caipirinha is definitely my favourite. It is the face of Brazil, perfect for any day where there is a single sunshine hahaha!
Really happy to see you and Az tasting it and showing tô the world!
Cheers from Brazil!!!
I remember when you came with this cocktail and I watched it but keep watching more ways to make it specially from Brazilians guys channels to see the difference and I always coming back to the one you make because seems to be the one I like the most thanks Anders.
I'm glad you posted this. i had thought about commenting on your Mary Pickford video that i have taken to replacing the rum in that cocktail with silver cachaça. great job , keep educating us.
Awesome vid!! Like the others!! Thank you! Making this today!!
I'm from Brazil, and I love the fact that you did this video; Caipirinha is really good, I love it. Thanks for including Brazil!!
Also, make it with other fruits, it's delicious
Andrew you are the goat. Thank you for all of the knowledge
I love watching your videos! I’d love a recipe book of your recipes to keep at my bar!
I appreciate this channel. And the haircut. Caipirinha is one of my all time favs, great selection.
I was just looking for something to drink this weekend…will definitely be trying!
I was waiting for this episode, I’m from Brazil and I love your videos
My absolute FAVORITE summer cocktail. Well done my friend! Cheers! 🥃
Thanks, Vino! Such a good one. Cheers!!
Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷💚💛
Cheers to you! 🇧🇷
Production quality is off the chart! Keep up the great work
Whoa Anders! Great haircut! Looking forward to trying this cocktail.
There is also Saquerinha, using Sake instead of Cachaça. You can also swap Lime with Strawberry, Lichia or Passion fruit.
I just found your channel and I am really enjoying the videos! I bought a bottle of cacacha the other day so i could make and enjoy this drink. Yeah, it's great! Thank you for your videos!
Can't wait to try this one! And, looking quite dapper, sir!
I love a capirinha 🤩 Thanks for the video and I love the new look 😄
Take my seal of approval from Brazil
Saúde my friend
Obrigado! 🇧🇷
Excellent drink, one of my favorites!
What a great cocktail to enjoy during summer.
Perfect for hot days!
One of the greatest cocktails. Simple yet utterly delicious. Nothing better on a hot summer evening.
There is a very traditional cocktail in Brazil named “Rabo de Galo” which is the literal translation of “cocktail”. It is made of cachaça and Campari. Sometimes it is added some Cynar. It is very old and served in small bars. It is not a fancy drink, but it has gaing some recognition nowadays by the new mixology trend.
I was just having one of my favorites, the Moscow mule, when I saw the notification for this video. Definitely going to try the Caipirinha. Thx Anders.
I'm Brazilian and i'm living in Portugal for some months and God, how your video made me homesick hahaha. Tnku Anders, love your content!!
Hell Yes! Beautiful drink, good tips here too.
Looking forward to make this refreshing drink ❤️ BTW Love the Haircut 😉
I love this cocktail so thanks for suggesting aged cahaça. Now I have to find some to purchase!
LOVE this drink!! So refreshing and takes me back to South America ❤️
Hairstyle looks wonderful!! Looks like a wonderful refreshing drink
Another great video! I can’t wait till you make a video which breakdowns the different style of rums and how to use them.
Finally the Caipirinha *-*
Thanks so much!!
Try it with a little shot of brewed coffee, it is simply amazing!!
And you are totally right about cachaça, it is one of the best and most tasteful spirits you can get, if you know what to buy.
Love from Brazil, your channel is amazing
I'm a brazilian and I learned a lot with you, so I got pretty excited when the notification came when you posted the video! I wanna share a little family recipe with you as well. My great-grandfather (according to my dad) would always use demerara sugar and muddle the lime ans sugar in a wooden morter and pestle (what we call a "pilão") that he used only for that, than he would throw everything in to a glass and add the cachaça. My dad said that he didn't used a specific cachaça, but I personally think that a oak aged cachaça is great in a caipirinha.
These simple cocktails especially with lime are my favorite.
While on our honeymoon in Positano, Italy my wife and I were introduced to the Caipiroska. There was a bar on the beach serving Caipiroska alla Fragola (Strawberry Caipiroska). They used brown sugar and muddled the strawberries with the lime. Definitely one of the most refreshing drinks I've had.
I've got a picture taken exactly from that spot, from Olinda, overlooking it and then Recife's skyline on the horizon. It is one of the best photos I've ever taken.
Yes! Great eye - the view from Olinda was incredible. A very special place.
This is delightful.
Great video! It's always a bonus when I can find the ingredients in my rural area of MD! Novo Fogo added to my "to get list"!
Ditto. Except I have to find ingredients imported by the great and glorious LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario), the liquor monopoly of this fair land, which is there, my husband says, to protect us good citizens from bad booze. Sure. But they do have Leblon! Placing my order now. Here's to summer!
I love the Caipirinha. It's sooooooo good and so easy to make.
Your cocktails are always so pretty.
Love your channel, cheers from Brazil, this drink is one that have to know how to do it with our eyes closed
Im Brazilian!
Im a fan of the channel.
BEST video ever! Thanks for this! 🍸🍹🧉
"Because it's gross" 🤣🤣🤣
Oh that's making my mouth water and my jaw cramp all at the same time..... 🙏🏻
Glad to hear there's a rum video on it's way somewhere in the future :) Cheers!
Thank you Anders and Oz for another great cocktail for the hot summer months. I made the Caipiroska which was good but this would be top notch. Have a great weekend!
Cheers, Matt!
don't do that Matt, the heart of every brazilian bartender cries when this happens hahahah
One of my fav cocktails!
daora ver que tem mais brasileiros que vêem esse canal! hahahah
Nice to see that there are a lot of fellow brazilians here on the channel!
Enhorabuena Anders! Es un placer ver tus vídeos, y sentir tu pasión por los cocktails. Un seguidor de Andalucía que aprende contigo video a video. El corte de pelo... Genial! Un abrazo?
Love this! Will have to try one soon. Another drink that is so simple, but SO perfect to drink in the heat is a Paloma. I'd love to see an Anders' version of a Paloma, even if just in a list-style video! Cheers!
Simple cocktails but all the little details in the building of it makes all the difference :)
I will definitely attempt to make this on my next vacation.
Good to get reacquainted with my favorite marvelous duo. Hello from Norfolk, Virginia
ANDERS!!!! By far, not only is this one of fav Summer sippers, it is my fav Cachaca cocktail!!! Such a great sipper!!! CHEERS!!!
You’ve got great taste, Tim!! Hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend! Cheers!!
Used to be a huge Diplomatico Planas Daquiri fan. The Caipirinha is now my #1 summer cocktail.
I recommend samplers try preparing it with 1/4 to 1/2 oz. of 2:1 simple syrup over the lime before muddling.
I also like HTD method of shaking it between cocktail glass and smaller shaker tin. Thanks for the video.
I'm so happy to finally see a brazilian cocktail here!
I just made these a few weeks ago. Fabulous
Your videos show me that I need to broaden my horizons. I haven't heard of Cachaça before this.
Another fantastic video! Would love to see a video from you dedicated to Rum, Rhum & Cachaça styles.
Cheers!
Had this cocktail in the Yucatan. So good!
There he is! That sexy, handsome bartender we all fell in love with early in the pandemic. You got us through this past two years one week/one video at a time but I’ve gotta tell you ….. as the weeks marched by, I missed that awesome haircut as I’m sure many of your fans did. Cheers to your barber! Keep up the great videos! And hugs to Az as we all love her, too!
Thank you for this one
Happy to see my favorite cachaca used in this delicious drink. I've made one alteration in the past, and that is using brown sugar, it's a great addition. I am not as meticulous about cutting up the lime, but I like your approach. Thanks again Anders!
I know I'm late here but I can't believe you made it to Recife! I grew up there and this have made me an even bigger fan!
I use this recipe as medicine for sore throat and colds to this day: Cachaça, limes and honey. About the caipiroska: that is true! I remember that 10 years ago people would prefer vodka to cachaça precisely because of that. But nowadays cachaça is more used and appreciated.
As a Brazilian it is great to see this cocktail, actually I never heard the history of It! I agree that it is better with cachaça!! And thanks so much for using white sugar, in some places they use brown sugar, it changes the looks and nowhere in Brazil we use it.
Give it a try to a cachaça sour, it goes very well too.
ive drank my fair share of caipirinhas and 100% agree with the choice of aged cachaca, my favourite way to make a caipirinha at home is with o good amburana aged cachaca and honey instead of sugar, just cant get enough, loved the video and it is really nice seeing more brazilian cocktails,
Great Video Bro
Wow that brings good memories from home! 🇧🇷
Thanks for sharing our so loved cocktail, Anders! And nice haircut btw!
Cheers from Logan Square!
Brazil AND Logan Square? 🤯 Cheers, Philip!
this makes me happy. tanx.
Had rum agricole, so I made it with that. Delicious. This will be perfect for the 90 degree weekend we have forecast
Hey Anders! I'm from Recife btw hahaha.
Perfect description of the drink and how it is seen down here.
Keep It up Man. And cheers. Lets drink good stuff
It is easy to make. Tastes good all the time.
