Having a longer barrel increases the time the propelling gas pushes the bullet through the barrel. Until terminal velocity is reach , and the friction of the rifling is not high enough to slow it down. Which limits on how long a barrel could be when minding the cartridge's grain/weight. Oddly in games they usually don't do it right.
The thing where you're grabbing the pistol's slide and making it so it doesn't fire is just you jamming it. It won't fire because it couldn't chamber another round.
If you hold the slide and dont let the shell eject and be replaced by a new round, it's logical that it won't shoot anymore, as it's jammed. How is this a glitch/bug? The devs have made the mechanics very well in this game so it wouldn't be surprising if it's an in-game mechanic...cool video anyways.

I am sure you fixed the bug by now, that is a multi-threading issue, what happens is the operation of events eventually gets out of sync. You can fix this by programming everything in the update phase and use booleans in the events.
