A guy came up to me while I was fishing a local pond last weekend, and asked me if I could give him some pointers. He had purchased some fishing gear but hadn’t used it yet. Said he really wanted to learn to fish. I spent about an hour helping him spool up his reel, tie on a Texas rig, and make a few casts, before I had to leave.
I told him a good way to learn was bass fishing channels on CZcams and told to start with Debo!!

Debo is the first bass fishing channel I got into back in 2020. I was in a VERY dark place and I can honestly say fishing Saved my life. Debo’s channel is still my favorite and it’s rare to miss a single video.
This may be an unpopular opinion but my favorite videos are the lives and the gear reviews. Love the honesty and humility. Keep up the great work!!! 🎣
These comments mean more to me than you know. I've suffered with anxiety and depression for a long time. The last few years have tested a lot of folks. I too visited that VERY dark place. We're still here and fishing helped is both. Head up and keep moving forward brother 🙏

Debo, you continue to amaze me with your variety of video subjects and how well you do them. I watch 8 fishing channels and Tactical Bassin was always my favorite. However, now I look for Debo every day. Your lack of flash, humble honesty and great attitude are what makes you the best of the best. Not bad for a guy messing around in his basement who loves feeshin and people. Thank you for what you do.

i learned how to throw a baitcaster on my dad’s and uncle’s old bantams. i still have them to this day, and will keep them till the day i die

I still use my old green Shimano bantam 200.. I picked up a box of 10 at a swap meet for 75 bucks..

Dude I legit have 7 200e curados and stay on the look for more. It was the first expensive reel I bought when I graduated his school and got money it is still my favorite. I do like real unbiased gear reviews

Get the KVD LFS . You won't regret it. You might buy other reels , but you won't get rid of that one. I choose it over a Tatula. I could have been wrong. At 50% off I took what I could at the time.

Let’s dissect one of those baitcasters, a lot of people are scared to open one up and service one or just are curious to see how one looks like from the inside
I have 3 open on my table right now I stripped all the parts and cleaned them with a wire brush then slapped some fresh oil on every moving part now they run like new and put back together in 2 mins
I can definitely do some. I've got a reel repair vid coming soon. Not an old reel but still fun!
You are such a big reason why I’m still fishing. You taught me how to fish my confidence lure, finesse lures and most importantly, find wood pitch to wood. Literally caught my pb on that advice.

I agree Debo's. The Quantum Smoke S3 PT HD baitcaster reel. I have 4 of them. Gave away. All the rest to young anglers along with my old good lures. We must give to the next generation of Bass fishermen. Great video. Shawn
The right hand reel thing is interesting- my brother and I are both right handed but our dad is a lefty, we have both used right hand reel on every setup our whole lives.
The Zillion is an awesome reel. It's my favorite reel and the Silver Wolf which is basically a Saltwater Zillion.
So good, wish it was only $100 though 😅
I can't say I have anything I won't let go, but I definitely get the sentimental value these things have
Love my Lews. 1st one was a used LFS. I really liked it so bought the Tournament Pro and the BB1 afterwards. No complaints.
Hey Debo, My old curado cu200. it’s old, it’s beat up, scuffed, scratched & we’ve been thru some stuff. Still works like a champ! It is a tank & never lets me down. Sentimental? Yes!!! As far as my newer reels, I gotta say my Tatula.

I would love to see you take the old reels out with a rod and lures of the same era to catch fish . It would be very cool to know know how the old ones fished compared to something new .

What an upstanding guy to give the lady what the reels are worth. I agree with your list but would add the Lews Super Duty Wide Speed Spool and my favorite reels are definitely the Zillion no question about it I love that reel and just upgraded the bearings to ceramic including the levelwind bushings to bearings
Absolutely, I try to always be fair with kind people. She ended up throwing in another older greenie. Good folks seem harder to find these days
I’ve never bought a new Baitcasting Reel, the ones I got when I got back into fishing a few years ago were all used and all have been since swiped so down to 2 amazing Baitcasting Reels lol. I liked the LFS and SLX I had.

I like this a lot. I have rods and reels that my Dad gave me when he gave up fishing. Those are on my list to keep. I have one set up for cold weather fishing with 8lb ice line and the other I use the most is a 5'6" UL with 4 lb mono. My kids bought me a Lews Mach Crush SLP for Christmas one year I will never sell.
Keep doing what you are doing . Gear reviews, yes please. Bank fishing videos, yes please. Kayak fishing videos, yes please. Any time I’m thinking about new gear, baits, even casting techniques I search your videos first. You have helped me tremendously …. Abu Garcia black max (my first baitcaster) shimano slx, shimano slx 70 mgl are the reels I’ll never get rid of. …. I wish daiwa fit me, they really do have the best braking system. The lews lfs is the best aluminum framed reel for beginners hands down. …. I sold off what didn’t fit me well in the effort to upgrade my rods. Now that I’ve settled into two rod companies I really like, I’ve found the shimano slx lineup and the abu Garcia revo gen4s are what survived my gear sell off. For me these two lineups fit my hand the best. I wish abu Garcia hadn’t changed their frame style for the gen5. The gen5 doesn’t fit my hand at all.
Completely agree, has to be comfortable regardless of price. I'll have to compare frames. I got a few of the Gen 5 revo reels and get 4. We're the Gen 4's shorter and felt better to you?
@@DEBOSFishing yeah the gen4s were shorter. The gen 5s to me felt a littler wider and longer. The gen 5 swept in at the front which was a nice feather but didn’t fit me. The gen5 almost felt like a slightly larger lews lfs.
More gear reviews on reels baits line rods or whatever you want to do. I really enjoy the gear reviews. Some of my favorite things to watch on your channel.

It's amazing how much the fishing rod and reels have changed! I started bass fishing 1983 with an ambassador 5000 used with a 5'6" Browning boron graphite rod with pistol grip! I bought for $100 and wow I thought it was the best!!!! Lol😅😂
I have a Lew's mini reel. I have my old Garcia 5000, 5500, and my favorites are antique Pflugers with ancient rods. Great fun on a creek late evening with a black jitterbug
Gear vid!!! My step dad has one of those Black Magnums in a LH as well. Definitely a unique reel. I dint think I could ever give up my Tatula SVs. Especially my new Coastal. I love your comparison videos. Table top look at gear or baits and then see them in action on the water. Keep doing what you're doing bud!

Those old Shimano's had a Dog Paw for the anti reverse. The Bantam was the frist serious bait caster I ever owned. ( 1978 ) I still own and use some of the old Bantams. The ratios suck eggs 4.7 to 1 and the small handles you mentioned. But those old Bantams cast great. Just keep your cast short to keep your ratio up. Drags weren’t anything special either 10# ?? I agree with the $99.00 Lews LFS great reels and I have 2 that I keep in my line up. As you said if TW still has them around $75. 00 that’s a deal . Cool video

Debo them low profile baitcasters are best and fun to cast cand fish with vs a level wind I get better distance casting with the low profile caster

Awesome video and channel, Bud. I dtill fish my Shimano Calisto i bought in 2005. I must say i have a few Piscifun reels ( The Phantom and carbon xcs). Will never sell them. Tight lines brothers.

I have five curado 201e7's and will never get rid of them! Great reels! Love my curadi 51e's also! Fav reel of all time is my Antares AR.
They are cool. Awww ok, so they did have a 50 size. Thought so but could not remember. I've only seen/used the 200 & 100
@@DEBOSFishing yes the 50's are awesome. They didn't make a 100 size in the E series. Maybe you were thinking of the D series where the 100D was cool, but had a weak drag and the 200D was smooth, but ridiculously heavy and big. People poop on the G series just because they weren't made in Japan, but they performed great for me! The only downsides were they cheaped out on the plastic drag star and the darker and less glossy paint job. TBH, I prefer the old VBS even though you had to open the side plate. They were less fussy. Aloha from Hawaii! Keep up the great content!

I also am a southpaw, I cast with my left hand and crank or reel with my right hand. I have done that since I was very young. So I always buy reels with right crank handles. And by the way I am an Iowan, also. Darn the luck. LOL.

Hey Debo loved the video ! Bantam Mag Plus was the 1st reel I bought myself , wish I still had it ! E series never had a 100 size it was 200 or 50 the D series had a 100 all great reels . Thanks for sharing !

I’m a south paw, I much prefer right hand retrieve! The rod doesn’t have to leave my dominant hand!
I say the some to folks, but it's hard for some to understand 😅
@@DEBOSFishing I feel like the younger generation understands us more… compared to the older guys who were just taught to reel with their dominant hand. The old lever-drag reels were only right hand retrieve because there was no casting. Just deep trolling.
I say do some weird unknown brands and review them like the AAA guys or Reel Talk!
iCast is just around the corner so there will be a lot of new tackle dropping. But I prefer the fishing videos and the tackle review at the end.

I just bought a new Lews LFS in 6:8:1 from Academy, was on sale for $75.. but my shiny sticker on the bottom says China not Korea like yours 🤷🏻♂️ surely it’s not an old model this many years since the v2 released?
Edit: nope I just compared mine to yours it is definitely the newer version, apparently they aren’t all made in Korea.

The Lews are great, especially the Older BB1Pro-Love it for cranking. They just don’t last for me as they’re used for double duty inshore saltwater/bass fishing. Daiwa or Shimano ftw

I still fish with a grey bantam bmag 1000 and its got that same slop in the handle as those ones have, its for sure the next thing ill be upgrading, currently saving tips for an slx, but it still cranks in the fish

I have a shimano casitas paired with a cabelas tournament zx rod as my first non cheap combo and i could never part with it because of how many techniques i learned while using it

We looked at baitcaster next do spinning. How about florocarbon line, apparently I suck at tying my line breaks all the time. What is a good line, I stay with mono, caught my PB with mono.

How does the tatula elite fit in with all that? Cast farther than the zillion?
Hmm, I'd have to compare. My elite came BONE DRY. I hated it and let it sit for a long time. Jim/TackleJunkie81 said how good of a reel it was. I took it apart and cleaned/lubed and it's a new animal. Great reel but haven't tossed it for a bit.
I recently bought a KVD LFS Lews . I got it from a Guns and Ammo store that wants to get rid of all their fishing gear for 50% off. I know it was a good deal , but how would you think it compares to the Lews you have? I don't have much experience with baitcasters. I'm kicking myself for not getting a Tatula when it was available.
My zillion makes me look cross-eyed at all my shimano's.... it's so good

I know this isn’t related to this video but have you had any luck with the Berkeley cull shad? Have you had any issues with the ones that were supposed to be fixed after the recall? I’m having issues with mine running upright and I’m gonna try and nail weight in it tomorrow to see if she’ll run better. I really want to like this swim bait but that whop-eyed running sideways is frustrating. Also love the videos bro. Keep killing my guy.

Love the Zillion. Lews aren’t as good as they once were. Seems like they’ve regressed. Curado E’s were a good model. I like them better then than now.
The lfs is great now. I've heard some of the more expensive reels have gone backwards. Hard to believe with all the technology now?
@@DEBOSFishing All I know Lews customer service sucks now they were bought by the group that owns strike king. I previously went into the shop adjacent to their offices in soringfield and they were beyond helpful. They are gone!

For that much you shouldn't have to cast it to get fish,they should jump out of the water and come to me.
