There is an interview with Grace Slick and she talks about nights when Jim was too Fxxked up to preform and Ray would inform the audience that either they would cancel the performance and give their money back or they could play on without Jim. Every time the audience wanted to hear the Jim less Doors play. Ray would sing every song word for word while playing the guitar bass responsibilities with his left hand on his Fender and play lead keyboard with his right hand as well as peddling both keyboards. She goes on to say Ray was an incredible talent.
I remember this being so weird and so great. When so much of the new scene was rejecting the dinosaurs of the past and so much of the old scene was rejecting the threat of the new, Ray and X seemed to drawn together. Those first four albums they did together, I think, are the best first four albums of any band I can think of, before or since.
I was just wandering Hollywood Blvd. that night and decided the people going into this show looked very interesting. Was treated to the Wild Gift record release show and it was scorching! I wish there was more footage of this show available as the energy in there that night was electric. "The Unheard Music" only had this one song - although they filmed the entire show (I recall signing a release form upon entry and even had my 3 seconds of fame between 1:55-1:58 in this clip). Ahh - the good ole days....
I'm in love with this band, saw them opening a concert for Pearl Jam in Porto Alegre - RS - Brazil (11/11/11) same day Black Sabbath announced they were coming back and the production showed that in the big screen. To my surprise i like the X better than Pearl Jam today, such an amazing band and Ray Manzarek saw and knew it for sure.
Dang you can barely hear Ray's voice! But wow! Its AWESOME to see him without an organ! He would make a GREAT frontman! I could totally of seen him with his old 60's look being the frontman of a surfin' group, he had that voice and look.
This may make me look like an idiot. I was just looking at pressings of "Los Angeles" to buy on discogs, and I'm just finding out that ray produced it. If Jim was still alive I wonder if he would have been involved in the project in some way.

R.I.P Ray Manzarack. Legendary.
So glad to have met this band in Phoenix AZ 7 years ago. Such a nice lady. The band themselves still got it.
Can't stop enjoying the artist inside Ray. It comes as no surprise that he's done much more after Doors' end than Robbie and John.We salute you, Ray

The second coolest thing that Ray ever did!
I subscribed because of X
You can't hear Ray's voice because it's the studio version.

All kinds of awesome - I get whiplash listening to this

When individuals and bands expressed themselves instead of corporate tools molding wannabes
