I had a friend in the mid 90’s who was a exotic car mechanic. At the time he had around 300k worth of tools. Mac made him a one off custom toolbox that was 18 feet long. He had so many special tools just for doing very specific jobs on these cars.

I use foam inlays and the big disadvantage is the addition of new stuff or if the manufacturer changes something it doesn't fit anymore...

The truth is chrome tools are just as easy to find in engine bays as well and they have the advantage of the thinner handles for when you’re working in tight engine compartments. I imagine a mid engine car like Mclaren would have pretty tight engine compartments. I like the feel of those colored, comfort handle tools but as far as ratchets are concerned, I prefer the functionality of regular chrome handles. On my 24” long, 1/2” drive ratchet that is unlikely to be used in tight areas, I did buy that that one with a comfort handle. Orange is my color choice for handles.

It's refreshing to see a mechanic at the, at least in my opinion, top of the mechanic food chain using a mix of tools and not a $200,000 setup straight from the Snap On truck. A lot of guys think to be a master mechanic you need to have all the expensive tools, and he's a good example that you need them where you need them, but most tools you don't need it.

This dudes collection is my goals. Black and green everything. Honestly, I love working in this field but working at the everyday car dealership like Chevrolet/Cadillac, there is just so many customers that come through our dealership it’s never a quiet day. I usually touch about 12-14 average a day. If I didn’t have to touch so many cars I would probably enjoy my job more but for now I just gotta deal with it. I’m hoping to sometime join these higher end shops because I think that I would be a better fit for these higher end cars because I’m more detail orientated, like taking my time and doing the job right. But always being hounded to go quick, you can never get quick and 100% accuracy both at the same time. Honestly, I would LOVE to work for Mclaren or Lamborghini, mainly Mclaren, I need to make me some friends who work at Mclaren dealerships maybe they can help me out and give me some advice to guide me on the path I need to be. I hate having a dirty work bay or lift, like out of the 4 of us in just our building (we have 1 giant shop and 1 little shop, I’m in the little shop) I sweep, mop, blow out my bay floor, lift, behind/under my tool box. I clean the tire machine and tire balancer area, (because no one else fucking does it and they just throw the trash and old weights on the floor or just deliberately miss the trash bucket and don’t pick it up, etc.) but I don’t touch or even try to clean the other techs on either side of me because they don’t clean up after themselves so why would I? But you can see which bay is mine, all the green stuff (black tool box, green 5 drawer tool cart, green Jack, green Jack stands) EVERYTHING has a spot I’m talking about tools, all of my tools, sockets, extensions, wrenches, ratchets, etc….. have their spot, and they MUST go back in those spots or I go insane. Im so OCD about things going back where they were or belong, even my jack, stands, mighty vac, oil drain etc. have specific spots, and when someone else uses my stuff and doesn’t put it back where it belongs or just leaves it in their own bay and doesn’t return it, I get super aggravated, anytime I use someone else’s tool because mine broke or lost I put it back exactly where it was or grabbed from OR I will set it on their toolbox and tell them "hey, I don’t know where it goes so I put it on top of your toolbox so you can put it back in the same spot." They will usually tell me to just throw it in a drawer and I just say "nah, I’ll let you do it, I’m not like that." Lmao.

Just recently came across your channel and I am loving it. My grandfather was a master diesel tech for Penskee back in the 70s and I was recently given a lot of his tools that m father had Just a first-time homeowner with a small 5-drawer cart from HF but these are not only giving me ideas for how I want to slowly expand for home DIY and being a shade tree YT mechanic. But they also let me feel a little closer to my grandfather. Even when he couldn't walk out to his carport anymore he still knew the EXACT drawer and spot a certain tool was in when letting me use them. Keep up the good work my man.

This is dream level tool box organization and looks! Now I’m going to do as much to mine like this style. Can’t afford the brand truck tools but for me I’m starting to add to my dads older tools sets which is mainly Crafstman from the 70’s/80’s/90’s with me adding the newer ICON from Harbor. They shamelessly copy everything from Snapon it for me it’s more than enough quality. I am having tons of fun building my huge 2 tier rolling Craftsman chest that my son bought me for Father’s Day and rolling cart and because I have 2 sons and they work on their cars so they get excited every time I add to the collection. I have added just about every Milwaukee M18 wrench and gun and in the M12 collection. It’s always an exciting day when I show at home with Milwaukee boxes under my arms and bags from Harbor 🤩.
Very cool video! Organization GOALS, baby! 🤩🙌🇺🇸

I love the channel! It would be cool if you also ask why they chose their wrench and socket organizers! What brand and why such as Color, magnetic, low profile, twist lock? Just to see all the different preferences! Love the content, I cant get enough!

I colorfill my tools by crudely filling them with a paint marker and then wiping them down lightly. It takes off all the excess paint and leaves the low spots colored and takes 10 seconds, not to mention that it looks better.
Filling them with a brush is insane. Seems like a cool guy with cool tools, though.

I had that same shirt when working at McLaren. Fun times. But I enjoyed working at Porsche better. Although both were pretty easy to troubleshoot issues. Left the industry to pursue another career. I was just done with it.

The last people you wanna work for is rich people. The most pleasant people I have found to work for is other blue collar folks like myself. The only people that ever give me tips are middle class folks. Anyway good luck and I like how clean you keep your stuff I got the snapon 68” epiq and I keep it spotless

I’m tending to agree with you here. I installed oil pump gears and camshafts on an HVAC tech’s Mustang with the Coyote engine. He tipped me $100. I work in a performance shop now after 15 years in dealerships. At the dealers, tips are few and far between because most customers only go to dealers for warranty repairs on their 4 wheeled appliance. They don’t give 2 shits about there as long as it drives. Customers at performance shops love their cars and appreciate the work we do.
