Anti-FFS Angler's are Getting Out of HAND! (The Industry Divided) Ep. 178

  • In today's video I go on a rant about a few comments I have gotten lately and the overall state of the industry of bass fishing. It's sickening to me that people would stoop to the level of which they have lately. Love me or hate me, I will always be me. But if you are here to spread negativity, leave me out of it. I apologize for the rant, but I don't apologize for being offended. I will never do that.

    The real problem that the anti cult has is horrible information relayed to them about ffs. We can thank Sir Randy for adding fuel to all of it. There has never been more of a divide in fishing than I can remember and that’s what he will be remembered for.
    Everyone fishing today has been fishing before ffs existed. It’s really just people who are no good at fishing that found their ultimate boogeyman for their failure’s.

    I agree with you, it's a tool. I got push back when I started using it in 2021, still had an old trolling motor but choose to upgrade my electronics. I didn't wine and complain because most have spotlock, didn't have to fight wind, put my head down and fished. I'm like you I don't always use it, love punching and frog fishing. It's nice to see high spots, stumps, submerged grass, brush piles and fish them without running them over. In 3 yrs won 1 club tournament with it, and since all my other top finishes have been just fishing. I hate people that cry about the technology, yet have the spotlock trolling motor, graphs, shallow water anchors, then complain about ffs. I'd have more respect if they fished a flasher and a cable trolling motor.....and most who complain haven't ever used it or don't understand it. It's a tool to help, and great anglers understand that. Think some are upset because the young generation is kicking their ass. Sorry for that but it's true. But then some of those young guys fish ffs and are sticks without it too. But gives the other side something to scapegoat their lack luster outings. I like living in others heads when it's tournament time, if they are worried about what I'm doing with ffs or not then they aren't going to fish as good as if they weren't.

    I'm not a fan of FFS in tourneys and believe it's a contributing factor to declining fisheries., my opinion. ANYONE that attacks or insults people for using FFS needs to be taken behind the wood shed. I have my opinion, others have theirs, that's the way it's supposed to be. I can't understand the blow hards that take this subject so personally. I don't compete and couldn't afford the electronics, but if I came into money and could afford, I wouldn't compete because of my views. In this time 2023/2024, FFS is not going anywhere and will never disappear until a newer technology comes out, deal with it everyone.

    Andrew, it's not just fishing. It's people in general. I competed in bodybuilding for 10 years and the weightlifting/fitness industry was the exact same way. Powerlifters, Crossfitters and Bodybuilders belittled the others constantly.
    On another note of comparison, when I began competing in bodybuilding all of the top pros had a major supplement contract, when I retired from the sport 10 years later the only Pros that still had a contract were the Pros that owned the supplement companies. Same exact thing occurred in the Fitness industry that's happening right now in the Fishing industry, the Companies could use Folks on Social Media to plug their product for little to nothing in return and get way more eyeballs on their products.

I feel, it would quickly show the opinion of the vast majority of anglers. I'm tired of all the seeing all the tournaments even local pot tournaments being won with this technology. Years of working on your craft of figuring out the seasonal patterns are gone. Sit and watch your screen all day long fish 20 minutes.

  • @Venandii77
    @Venandii77 Před 8 měsíci +4

    Dont care for or against it. But my only thing is. Most top name anglers spent an entire career building their name, learning to read water. Specializing in one technique or another and honing that craft.
    These new guys regardless of age, they only know one thing. Stare at a screen… and if they win give them a trophy for participating. Thats not angling knowledge and no one will build their name or a technique from staring at a screen.
    Like many pro’s have said recently, the professional levels are in trouble regardless of league if the only thing these newcomers can do is be that dependent on ffs.
    There is a lot of bias regardless, its no different than the bias against MLF. Trolls exist everywhere if it doesn’t fit their narrative. I just offer up a new tampon to them and go about my day! 😂

    I think if the market truly hated it and didn't want FFS to exist, FFS-free tournament trails would be popping up all over the place. I mean we have swimbait and frog only tournaments, a limited electronics series should be a hit right? I think the truth of the matter is that those who complain the most about FFS are the exact same type that wouldn't show up to FFS free trail because the HP limit is too high, this guy has spot lock, this guy has power poles, we need a rod limit, the off limits is too long / short, entry fees are too high, and on and on .

    If someone is a professional fisherman I think they had better get proficient with FFS. Having said that technology in fishing is and has been out of hand for a long time. The arguments for using FFS are hollow. It takes much less skill. It really isn’t fishing. Just a gentle reminder that comparing the time before FFS as the same as using flintlock rifles is a poor example. There is a lot of skill in being accurate with a center fire bolt action rifle.

  • @1304GT
    @1304GT Před 8 měsíci +1

    Great video. FFS is just an evolution that started with a flasher, then paper graphs, then LCD screens, side image, down image, etc. Each evolution has given anglers the ability to catch more fish. The off-shore fish have always been the great unknown and I believe we, as anglers have contributed to that with the constant bank-beating. Fish will adapt and I see it already on my screens where fish scatter when they get pinged. I do agree with the issue of watching it live. I think as more productions link the screens to the broadcast, it will help some. We have to remember that we grew up on watching 1 hour shows that were edited to show only the catches. Now we have all-day streaming where you have to fill the time with something. With all due respect to your preference, I would rather watch someone using FFS and maybe learning something than watching someone sit on a bed fish for hours. JMHO

    Great video! I have fished a local club for years, and there are a few guys in our club that have had FFS for a couple years now....did they win everything, NOPE, not even close. I recently added FFS to my rig for a couple reasons, the #1 reason is to try and continue to learn and understand the fish. I have been out with it 4-5 times now, and it's definitely an eye opener, but I can tell those people that think you just turn it on, see a fish, and then catch that fish.....you are WRONG!!! We are all entitled to our own opinions, but the nonstop bashing and negative comments towards the anglers using FFS needs to stop. If you want your opinion and ideas to be listened to, and considered with some validity, being a jacka$$ isn't the way to get it done. Just my .02

    Andrew, FFS. Is here to stay in the industry, as you said. I do not own an FFS. Unit myself, but I do like any help the average fisherman can get who only gets to go maybe one or two days a week. As for tournaments, anglers, I think the live has not kept up to the technology. So they can show use what the anglers are seeing. As for there being more haters out there, there are not more just better ways for angry people to react to what's going on in real time. Back in the day, when someone read an article, and they disagreed with it, there was no way to vent their frustration unless they wrote the editor, and unless they decided posted the replies. You never knew someone was ever mad. FFS. Is a tool just like any other tool in your toolbox, and 10 years from now, we will all wonder what all the fuss was all about.
    Thanks, Andrew. for the great videos.

    I think people are having a hard time articulating their frustration. I’ve tournament fished at some level for 45 years. Lots of innovative stuff was banned by bass in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Most of it was things that were banned were innovative ideas by anglers like Martin, Blauket and Grigsby. A short list: no fly rods, 8 ft maximum rod length, jet drives, tunnel hulls, extra fuel, ballast tanks, underwater cameras, raised platforms, being seated with your vest on when the motor is running, using the same boat for the whole Elite season and plenty more that I’ve long since forgotten. Let me be clear, I’m against most of these bans but to pretend that banning FFS wouldn’t be just business as usual is disingenuous.

It isn’t a shock that that behavior has become common place. It’s a darn shame. I always appreciate your insight. I don’t have ffs, but it looks amazing. I’d love to use it, but I don’t think it should legal for the top tier of tournament fishing- only because it takes away from the TV broadcast. If I wanted to watch somebody play a video game I’d go onto Twitch. When you think about the most boring fishing tournaments ever broadcasted, most people’s mind go to drop shot tournaments up north. Now with FFS, all the tournaments are being won staring at a screen. For the sake of good media, I think it should be eliminated from the pro tier. In the last couple of month's I've fished 4 tournaments, a 1st place, a 15th place, a 2nd place, and another 15. None of those finishes were using livescope.... i have it and i don't use it in practice, i don't use it to find fish. When i do use it , it's only for time management. So I'm not sitting on a channel or point for hours when there isn't fish there , or if the school i found in practice without livescope moves. It doesn't make a bad fisherman all of a sudden a good fisherman. It makes good fisherman better but they were already a good fisherman ..!

    FFS, GPS, Side Scan, HD Downscan, Loran, Paper Graphs, Flashers, etc etc. All have come long after I started fishing 79 years ago. Love them all. Don't like the latest one, then hate on all of them. For the haters. How about we cut a whole bunch of large logs and furnish an adze and an ax in the parking lot. Make your dugout canoe and then go fish the tournament with whatever stick you can find on the bank and strip some bark and weave it into string. Carve a fish hook from some hard wood, dig up a worm or two and you are good to go.

If you want it bad enough you can get it work 80 hours a week for a while and you can put money away to buy it. The fact is most people do not want to work extra to afford it so they hate it.

    Drew, all bass tornaments try there best to make a level playing feild. So this is problem: does live scope make a level feild? So, bass tornaments have been, experience of angler, and his or her instincts. My opinion is it don't. Two sides of fench though. Buy one put it on yiur boat and learn to use it???? FFS only works when fish are schooled up, off the bank in deep water usually. But, is it fair, to use it to find fish? Or using your years of experience to find them fish??? Final thoughts: if it's legal to use it, then use it. It's electronics, when graphs came out , we used them, side imagining came out, we used it, now ffs, so use it!

    I have mixed feelings about this subject. I think there is a place for it. In fact I’m saving up to buy my FFS. However, I’m not a Professional Angler who is dependent on fans, sponsors and others to make a living. I have no issue with a professional using it if done right! ! ! I have anglers I follow (no names mentioned) that keep their heads down the whole tournament. Then there is people like Scott Martin, Andrew Nordby, Brian Latermire who all have it yet the talk and tell the fans what they are doing during the day. It’s awesome to watch as they relate to the fans. Then you have those who look down and say nothing. There is a place and I’m looking forward to it. But I think these young guns need to either learn to relate to the fans or learn to fish without it until they build a fan base. Andrew I love to follow you, you have been a favorite for a while. The vast majority of fisherman have embraced technology in one form or fashion to enjoy this great sport. I for one, learned to fish as a child using crickets and cane poles. but over time, my skill level progressed and I learned to use spinning rods, bait casters, artificial lures, and yes, fish finders. Now that technology has advanced enough to allow us to use forward facing sonar (FFS), I will also add that to my skillset. We have all embraced technology in some way. So unless the critics are noodling, they are not credible critics and are being pretty hypocritical.

    I couldn't comment on the podcast today so I'll do it here. 1 traditionally tournament fishing has and always will be at the cutting edge of technology whether it is tackle boats baits sonar etc.. they do so to match. Example does a military look to gain a tech advantage? Of course it does! Technology will always advance and trickle down to other industries. If you want to embrace it you'll do well with it. If not you'll be left behind reminiscing about the good old days. 2. There are broader issues concerning fishing from spraying grass to golden algae lakes getting old silting in the list goes on far be it that table rock or Toledo gets racked with golden algae and see all bass die! Randy would have the biggest following ever after all those tears he'd probably get enough support to run for office 😂. 3 Tod's run in with the first guy he won't say much but that's what worries me it's the people that don't say much when it pisses them off those are the ones you have to worry about. Tod probably jumped in the other guys boat smacked him around jumped in his boat and left. If you want more fanciful stories then let me know. I'll put em in the comments when I can!!

You don’t have to agree with it but technology is not slowing down so the anglers complaining about ffs is falling on deaf ears. Randy Blaukat is one of this biggest problems you have. I was a fan and subscribed to him but his whining about FFS and his ignorance of how it works is just too much to take. When anyone makes a comment correcting him, his responses are rude and belittling. He has a cult following of guys that thinks he walks on water and they take what he says as the gospel. I’m not a fan of Milikin but he embarrassed Randy with facts and Randy responded with feelings and lies. For example, so many people talk of it costing too much, throw numbers out there like $25k to $30k. That’s ludicrous. I had a 3 yr old Lowrance and I was able to upgrade the software, add a FFS transducer for $1500 and it was working.
    Bottom line, Randy hasn’t made a profit from fishing in about 15 years. Now he is making a profit by being a CZcams influencer for anti-FFS.
    Ban Randy Blaukat.
    BTW, no hate at you….catching big bass off the bed and releasing it there is fine. There is a very good chance she will lay her eggs.
    Catching them off the bed, carrying them in a live well all day, taking them to a stage to weigh and hold up for pictures ……..then releasing her miles from her bed…….NOT GOOD. The mortality rate on those fish has proven to be nearly 50% and the ones that live won’t be laying eggs to make new bass.

    Debating a contentious issue is never a bad move. Things must be fully vetted and given oxygen to breath and get all points heard. I remember when the COVID vaccine mandates were going around- you were banned on many platforms for asking if this was necessarily a good idea. (history tells us the rest of that story). Conservative speakers are kicked off college campuses due to censorship. Same way comedians refuse to go there as well. What is so dangerous about simple dialogue if we are, as Andrew said, all adults? Those who are afraid of a debate typically have good reason to be afraid- perhaps they protest TOO much? If people cannot hold it together and blow a gasket the way BM did on Bass After Dark, they should own up to their demeanor-don't put it on the other opposing side saying they are the ones who turned them into the DB.

I saw a guide the other day that was bragging about teaching a middle aged man who has never bass fished and wanted to learn how and was starting the guy off fishing with FFS and said he has fallen in love with the sport because of it the guy has no idea how to read a lake. There is such thing as to much technology you see this in other sports and they have to monitor this to keep the sport still a sport. All those big females that go offshore during summer and winter that didn’t get caught for the most part are now getting beat up and eaten. FFS hasn’t been around long enough to build up enough data to study yet but it’s coming.

    The problem is your are so confident in you opinion. There is a whole side that your aren’t considering. You are a pro and most likely practice catch and release. You also are skilled at handling the bass in a manor that will give it the best chance to survive when it is released. The technology is trickling down and the weekend warriors, bass eaters, and poachers now have it on their boats. Now you have the poachers taking way more fish home than they ever would have taken if they didn’t have FFS. You have the wannabe weekend warrior who goes out for 8 hours in 86 degree water and saves his bass in a broken live well just so he can get that photo of him holding 5 fish at the same time. It has opened up a whole new level of illegal activity in the lakes in Fl, I see people getting away with it everyday. There are only 900 FWC officers in the entire state. Then we can have the conversation about the guys I saw using it to catch and keep Tarpon. You need to start looking at the big picture instead of just being selfish and looking at it from a professional Tournament angler viewpoint.
