Don't feel defeated, it just a learning process. I enjoy your videos. Keep on doing the workshops. You are introducing people to a new craft; understand that you are needed. Don't be hard on yourself, because no one else in your workshop was. Be blessed in all you do. Where was donut in the engagement pics 😂.

I'm so glad that you're going to give it another go on teaching a workshop. But I'm also glad that Shawn was able to talk to you and let you know that you did well. Give yourself grace, pal.

Congrats on your first workshop! It made me so jealous but also so excited to see! I used to teach sewing and paper crafts when I worked at Spotlight (the Aussie version of Michaels or Hobby Lobby).
To be honest, you will learn! Doing more workshops you will find what works for you! My intro to sewing class is 1.5 hours of learning every little piece of your machine, going step by step and learning what each thing does, then we moved onto test lines and strips on a blank piece of fabric.
I think the simple shapes will definitely be easy for your students to learn basic movements and how to do it with ease!
I also find a lot of people that attend in person classes want to be bottle fed and have little pieces of info and hold their hand the whole way through.. so maybe either smaller sizes or more helpers to assist. People online that purchase kits are usually crafters naturally and have a bit of skill when it comes to creativity.
Don’t low faith! You will figure it out! If you ever want to talk things through or just discuss the teaching side of things (I was also a elementary school teacher) I’m more than happy to chat!
    Love your vlogs xoxo

You deserve it. Just so you know your tutorial sharing the different needle and fabric pairings is the most thorough. I have a needle I use with monks cloth and the one you sell with linen. Waiting on lighter yarn now for the linen. Trust that you have amazing value as an instructor! I judge all tutorials by yours and you are a 10! Blessings

Curious what channels you like to watch on CZcams when you’re working?
I think people get confused when you say restocked because that generally means you have inventory. Have you ever considered maybe saying you’re open for orders. So when it says sold out it’ll just mean you’re closed and not taking the orders at that time. Just thought it might be helpful. I know I want to buy a kit some time:))
Great job on the workshop. I literally chuckled because I would’ve been EXACTLY the same way to my partner in the heat of the moment like crisis mode but no one else would’ve known I was freaking out inside. It honestly sounds like they enjoyed the craft and you! Getting another booking is a testament to that. Bravo my friend 👏🏼

I've been teaching at the college level for years. Every one of the frustrations/problems you ran into are common for people teaching a new subject or class for the first time (underestimating or overestimating time needed, overlooking subjects, etc). I always say that the first two times you teach something expect problems. It's not usually until the 3rd or 4th time that I ever feel I have a "good" class. I am so happy for you that you learned from the experience and seem to have figured out quickly how to improve the class. Your idea of teaching a class to your family and friends is a great one! By the way, you taught me how to punch needle ( I bought your kit and regularly watch your videos) and now I'm obsessed! Its my favorite new craft. You are making an impact. Be patient with yourself and don't give up! I believe in you!

I green 💚 Pirate Ship too!!!
I have trained our pets with a spray bottle. After a couple shots they get it and sometimes just holding it up as a warning when the undesirable behavior starts will stop them, at least for me.

Great video as usual. Congrats on doing the workshop. Bringing extras is always a plus. Things could break, more people can show up. Its always better to be a bit over prepared.

Tip for Donut. I have 2 cats now and has so many growing up. You might to establish firm boundaries now before they get too old. I used two methods.. one is the squirt bottle which is popular. You say no when Donut does something and remove them from it. They go back and do it again.. you say and do a little squirt of water. I find after a few times. They will stop. Cats are known to be little maniacs depending on the breed and personality of the cat. So a firm no will work vs some are more stubborn. My youngest cat, I got her at 3 months and she is cuddle buddy but still sneaky. But taught her that only one couch is available to her and certain furniture like tables, etc are nit for her. She is 2 1/2 and she doesn’t even think about those spaces now. Consistency is the key with cats. I love them but they can be menaces.

You should be very proud of yourself for hosting the workshop. You seem to be an incredibly genuine and sweet person so I'm sure that came across to your students at the time and the offer of a refund was very generous which would have been appreciated. I am a needle felt artist and have been asked to run a workshop several times but I am absolutely terrified by the idea just in case it goes badly. That's why I'm so impressed that you've faced your worries, done it, reflected on it and are going to do it again.... well done. I live in the UK but would happily come to one of your workshops. Keep evolving, you're doing great.

I have a polymer clay earring business and taught a workshop last year - it's really difficult to not be hyper critical of yourself especially during something like this! They are beginners so they're not expecting to walk away from it knowing everything, and they're mostly there for the experience. Some things you can only learn by actually doing them and practicing (like running a workshop!) It's incredibly difficult to know how long something might take and to predict what things might be problems when it comes so naturally to you at this point. You should definitely do more if it's something you will enjoy! Don't be too hard on yourself. I'm sure everyone had a great time!

First time commenter but I love your videos and just wanted to chime in that I do macrame and I felt the same way when I taught my first class. Some go really well and others you leave feeling exhausted and discouraged. Keep going I am sure they all loved learning your craft! I do find they always take longer than anticipated and it is very hands on with walking around helping people one on one. I also have done a large class with no help and definitely recommend keeping it limited to a certain number of people. Have a great day!!

I'm curious if the cloud or peach design ended up being more popular at the workshop - personally I love the peach design and I was rooting for it 😀 glad to hear you're not giving up and all the improvements you've planned sound great! also I really hope you find a solution and can continue with the mirrors, I am obsessed with how cute the cherry one looks!

Don't give up on your workshops. Try to remember when we as crafters first try a new product...😢...how many fails we do before we get it right. The solutions you came up with are wonderful. The next workshop is going to go great. Side note as an designer: love your invitations..but maybe lower your date a little so that you can see the three of you through the transparent...blocking Dunkins' handsome face.😊 Keep being you and positive... you're doing great.

Jessica, Jessica, Jessica, well, I’m pretty sure you’d of known I was going to write to you, your first workshop, was not a disaster, the people that attended, had never touch a punch needle kit, yet some actually completed them, that Jessica is a success, you learnt loads too. You know I absolutely love your channel, I love what you do, I love your dedication to your craft, your business and to the journey you are having with Shawn, Dunkin and Donut… your style of vlog is amazing. I was going to tell you off for being deflated about the workshop, but I’m just going to say “naughty girl” haha… the lady that asked for a refund, well, she wasn’t a team player. As you know I have tried it myself, I even followed your tutorial, nothing wrong with the tutorial, I was just rubbish at it…. You make it look easy, but you’re a professional, I’d not expect anything less… I’m very pleased you will again step up to the plate with another workshop. Now, give yourself a hug, give Shawn a hug, Dunkin and Donut a hug… letzzzzz go ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Your so sweet, need to give yourself some grace and patience. It’s tough when you invision on how things are going to go, and then they don’t go as you had planned, so in the future,
Just know things are going to happen and just go with the punches. , (no pun intended) lol Teaching can be challenging, so with experience your workshops will get better. And there are going to be some people that just won’t get how to do needle punching so don’t blame yourself if that happens. An idea to get future students is offer the current students a coupon if they tell others about your needle punch workshops and if they sign up can give the current student a discount but only after the other student they recommend the class to pays for the class and attends the workshop. Would be s win win and you keep offering this to your current students and hopefully this will help to keep your workshops going. Just s thought! Hope you had s blessed day will catch you on your next video😊💜

I would post on Facebook events in your local area to the first 10 people to reply to the event and host a free work shop and use that as your practice class so that get true unbiased reviews. Ask your local library or local VFW if you can use one of their conference/classrooms to teach your class. I know you are probably thinking I’m nuts buy saying it’s a free class but all you would be out is the fabric , yarn and felt which yes can be a little pricey BUT it would be worth it to get the practice hosting an event that can give you that much needed unbiased feedback. Cause you know your family and friends will definitely say you did a great job even if in reality you sucked. So yeah you may be out $50-$100 for this one time class. Don’t let anyone know the true reason you are doing this class for free until the very end at which Time you could tell them that you will be handing out a scorecard and you would like their honest feedback on each question and you and Sean can come up with five questions on. How do you think the supplies were? How do you think my teaching skills were like that, and then leave a section for additional comments and tell them do not put their name on them and to fold them up and put them in an enclosed box. that has a slit on the top for them to slide it in so this way, you won’t know who is comment card that is when you get home and you and Sean start reading them that will give you your true unbiased opinion on how you taught that class and then you can take that advice and put it into the next class that you teach that is a paid class I hope what I’m trying to say is coming across 100% clear if not let me know and I’ll try and explain it a little different
