Man...do I EVER miss trippin' and roaming around in Chicago's Soldier Field Stadium parking lot...and witnessing so many COOL HIPPIES from all over the WORLD!!! J The wind would cause the volume of Jerry's guitar to rise and fall depending on the direction and speed of the invisible air in that huge parking lot right next to the Majestic Lake Michigan. Those summer shows there were EPIC...and we will probably ( but maybe??? ) never have such a beautiful gathering of such beautiful people. Some of these fans traveled all over the United States with the band. I never have had the chance in my 57 years to be a "carefree soul" like they did...
Some of the "carefree" hippies had beautiful souls alright. But the '70's and '80's did not take the toll that the 1960s did!! I was 19 in '69 and had a weekend WITH the Grateful Dead during two nights at the Capitol Theater. It was "dreamy" & personal...but my future did not hold the excitement that I experienced when I found my place with GD band! I went away and had some pretty rough times in California..drugs and more drugs! Then, I got clean at 20 years old and never looked back! BUT, i STILL love this band more than any other, play their music regaularly at 73 years old! My dream came true with them onstage during two concerts...dancing my trippin' heart out!!
