  • Air fryers are something I had seen for a while and thought they were pretty interesting. Interestingly enough, my dad had gotten one for me as a Christmas gift! Overall it operates well and we have tried some things in it already.
    In this video for demonstration it will make some fries.

    I just got this air fryer and I’m not impressed so far. My first try at frying chicken wings which I thought would be straight forward and easy was disappointing. I put two racks of wings in and turned it on the programmable input for wings. I had to reprogram it like three or four times. For the wings to cook and it was just the top rack that cooked. Maybe I don’t understand the technology, but I thought the air would flow around so all racks would cook. I also don’t hear any air flowing in the air fryer. I will play around with some more. Anyone got any suggestions? I may end up throwing it in the garbage.

    Man, that's pretty well optioned! I like our Ninja Foodi air fryer. It just came with a basket, and oven rack. I've made toast, mozzarella sticks, and reheated pizza, so far. All came out well.
    Would spraying the fries with canola oil spray crisp them up a bit more, as if they were deep fried? I like fries to have a crispy exterior, fluffy interior, but not too dried out. Overall, looks like yours were good.
    There is a locally owned burger place that serves crinkle cut fries, and they are awesome. Not something many restaurants have!

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626  Před 3 lety

      I do love some mozz sticks! I should try them in here some time. I'd certainly be curious. Later this week I got some smaller pizza slices to reheat. We'll see how that goes. We tried putting some oil on the fries last time. It actually was pretty good doing it that way! Not so much in terms of crisping, but maybe adding some flavor. Yeah they are still just fine without it.
      I definitely don't know of many restaurants that have crinkle-fries, aside from maybe Nathan's. It's too bad.

    • @dynatrak
      @dynatrak Před 3 lety

      I've never been a fan of tots, or fries cooked in the regular oven. I'll certainly give the air fryer a shot. Good to know they get crispy without the spray cooking oil.

    It's only a fan-forced broiler. "Air Fryer" is just a buzzword to get people to buy it. The type you have is more classified as an air fryer oven.
    You know that glass halogen oven I have, we made wings in it once or twice. That's EXACTLY the same, with a different heating element, and larger area. The halogen ovens were great, and are still available, though in limited numbers because they made these now. Do they work? Absolutely. The problem is people go crazy putting all kinds of stuff in there that doesn't necessarily benefit from it, then call it good anyway because it's "less fat". Just buzzwords.
    I like the red display. China controls, not so much. The menus are mostly useless, unless you make their recipes, because they have tried all of them in it, multiple times, to ensure you'll get consistent results. Like my Aldi countertop convection oven, an appliance like this should always be watched. Food can go from "oh it's almost done" to "burnt to a crisp" really quick. Ask the wif about Doo Dah Doo's meals. But when you have an iPhone, hun....oh wait. And in CT hun, oh wait.
    All in all these work, but their usage is really up to experimentation. You saw that on Easter, I put that nice leg of lamb in the halogen oven, and that worked great. I've used mine and used mine and used mine, and I know what works, how far it should be from the heat, and get very good results. But everything I make sucks anyway...story of my life...because I'm Jay.
    Mozz sticks?????? If you thought my chicken parm sucks, just WAIT. We've got a lot of cooking to do next time I see you.
    This would also work great out in the cabana, though times may very slightly depending on ambient temperature and wind. It might also be something you'd consider getting for there as well.
    I have the more traditional style air fryers where you have a basket. I have one of the smallest ones they ever made, I think 1.6 quarts, and it does fine for what I've done it in. I haven't delved far into using it, and use it occasionally, for fries and hash browns, and it does well. Still, I prefer the halogen oven for more major things, like a whole chicken.
    Buffalo sauce is a great condiment for fries. Malt vinegar is also good for a change of pace, but it's kind of an acquired taste. More popular in other areas. I keep some on hand for when the fancy strikes.

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah I figured there was a simpler term for the function, but I just couldn't quite put my fing......I mean fin on it as to what it was.
      The halogen cooker is always a winner definitely, and for your easter dinner as well. Oh yeah I'm sure many people put the wrong kinds of stuff in here while microwaving their phones to recharge the battery. I'd say maybe the benefit of this is that some things definitely do seem get done faster than regular ovens since (as far as I know) you don't need to pre-heat and there's much less space to heat up. On the flip side, it's also a lot smaller, so things like regular pizza slices are out of the question.
      Oh yeah I always monitor these things. Those fries I made in the video have that scenario happen! I swear just 30 seconds go by and it's like "woah, time to turn them around."
      Oh man I'd love that chicken parm again......and the buffalo chicken dip, and you make mozz sticks too?? Yeah I gotta try that. I still haven't forgotten my word of treating you out somewhere for handing in my tax stuff last year!
      If it's a nice day. Hell yeah, let's try this out in the cabana! In normal circumstances though, we'd probably just use the toaster oven for similar stuff, as this comes more in handy for if we're just eating inside, or if the toaster oven is unavailable because of the winter closure.
      I think you told me about the malt vinegar once before. Haven't tried it yet though. I guess it can't hurt to see how it would be one time.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Sharkie626 Microwaving their phones to charge the battery--that's just gold!
      Actually, they always say to preheat them. But then again, sometimes preheating isn't necessary. I've put frozen pizzas in the regular oven, with the oven cold, and by the time it's preheated, the pizza is nearing done, only need a couple more minutes. The big Ronco rotisserie I have, the book tells you to add 2 minutes to the time to allow for preheating, yet you've already put the food in there. The air fryer I do have, I preheat for 5 minutes. But then I never really preheat the halogen oven. So it's kind of up in the air.
      Dirty Jay Burgers™, chiquen parm, mozz sticks, and maybe Steak a la Jay.
      Malt vinegar, like I said, is kind of an acquired taste. No sense wasting money on a whole bottle unless you needed it for a recipe, so if neither of us remember to remind me, I'll bring the bottle I have next I see you.
