    As always you give a beautiful analysis. You are right to tell people to listen to the poet in person read the poem. It makes all the difference.
    I live and teach in Italy now, but I grew up in London and so it was very common to hear Irish accents. It has such a warm, soft, but also strong sound, and I think that is one of the things that make listening to Seamus Heaney himself so gratifying.

    thank you so much for that. I have a question: How do comparisons between first and last stanza work in the poem and what effect does the change in comparison from first to last stanza produce?
