Israel lethal attacks on Iran-linked targets especially the deadly attack on Iran's consulate on diplomatic and consular premises violates the Charter of the United Nations as well as the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
Israel is trying to expand an existential crisis resulting to a broader conflict in the volatile region, with devastating consequences for civilians who are already seeing unprecedented suffering in Syria, Lebanon, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and the broader Middle East.
The US, Britain and France opposed a Russian-drafted U.N. Security Council statement that would have condemned an attack on Iran embassy.
The U.N. Security Council has issued statements in the past condemning attacks on diplomatic premises.
The 1961 Vienna Convention governing diplomatic relations and 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations define premises as buildings, parts of buildings and land - regardless of ownership - used for the purposes of the diplomatic or consular mission, including the head of the diplomatic mission.
Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate is an escalation by Israel against Iran in Syria.
The killing of Iran’s top soldier, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, among other Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders is Israel’s determination to shift the conflict to the whole region in the Middle East.
