I'm from Missouri and Jesse James may have been a murderin', robbin', ex Confederate guerrilla, scoundrel but by golly he is still our man after 150 years and we are stickin' with our man. Our state motto is the challenge, "Show Me! " and ole Jesse sure showed em' how to rob a train. The James gang were pioneers in the art. The memory of Jesse James is so revered in this State that my mother knew this ballad by heart and sang it as a lullaby while rocking her sweet little children to sleep! My great grandfather, Nathan Allee, knew him on sight as "Mr. Howard" on the streets of St. Joseph, Missouri.

@alanwright6036, that maybe true and to Missourians he was sort of a Western Robina Hood, but far as I know, Robin Hood never robbed and killed people in order to take their money and valuables.

Brilliant arrangement, I was playing along with great gusto until I realized my mandolin was going out of tune, then discovered the neck was parting company with the body.....I suppose many an outlaw had a similar problem, not so easily fixed with glue!

Hmmm.. From Clay County, MO and most folks here arent sure, but that guy in Texas no shot he was Jessie. Had the facts incorrect and age wise it didnt line up. Jesse likely died that day. Plenty of people wanted him dead.
