  • At the conclusion of my time in Seattle, I got on the Link train at the Westlake Center Station in Downtown Seattle. This video shows the train ride from there all the way to the SeaTac Airport, plus the tunnel you have to walk in to get from the Airport Station to the airport itself. Filmed on March 16, 2022.

This is so much cheaper than taking a shuttle. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this. It's so cool to see Seattle again and the tunnel. I've been through there countless times when I was living in the area. I left in early 2008 and never got to ride Link.

Can't wait for the east extension to be complete

I just checked the project map for the extension to the East; that seems like a very significant expansion! It sounds like it keeps getting delayed, though -- maybe a 2024 opening?

Everyone always shows from Seatac to downtown but this is great video going the other way. I am staying at the W hotel in May this year and am going to get back to the airport this route. Much appreciate the video. Wish you would have filmed where to buy tickets at westgate station and whats the daily schedule? Did you feeel safe or are there sketchy people on this rail system like NY ! Thanks much in advance

Thanks for the feedback! I am still a bit confused with Seattle's bus/transit pass system, but at the Airport Train Station (a kiosk), I bought an ORCA card (for $5), and then loaded it with something like $8 worth of fare. You then tap the card at a machine before boarding the train, and after leaving the train.
When I was leaving (Westlake to Airport), I thought I had already used my $8 fares throughout the week, so I was looking for a kiosk to reload a balance onto it. I couldn't find any machine to pay fare though at Westlake! Maybe I just missed where it was located. All I could find was the machine to tape your ORCA card. Even though I didn't think I had a balance, I tapped the ORCA card on it anyway, and it indicated that my fare was paid. That confused me even more. I know that's not the most helpful, but that was my experience.
I visited NY for a week in 2019 and just tried to blend in with the crowd and mind my own business (while still being alert). I'd say that Seattle's train wasn't as crowded, and the 3 times I rode it (once to a soccer game), I felt safe -- but you should still be watchful of sketchy people, just like NY. The only city I've been to and ridden the transit and felt very safe on was in SLC/Utah.

@@PokoTraveler Thanks for getting back with some answers so soon. Much appreciated. Myself and wife are actually coming into Seattle via a cruise ship then staying over night at the W Hotel downtown and then heading to the SeaTac airport for the first time. This is why I asked "where" the ticket kiosks were. I m sure Ill find them Thanks much for your help again Have a great day

Where do you catch the shuttle between light rail and terminal?

    • @PokoTraveler

After looking into it more, I think the shuttle is actually a smaller vehicle, like the one you see around the 39:44 mark of the video. I believe that it gets picked up right around the corner from where you see it in the video, and then it just goes down the tunnel that I walked; and vice-versa.

Thanks for sharing. How much is the ticket from Downtown Seattle to Seattle international airport? I have a flight from Seattle to Doha next month. Will be coming from BC Canada

I bought an ORCA card, which allows you to load the card with fare money and tap the card at stations to deduct fare. The card is $3, and then the minimum amount you can load to the card is $5. So if you buy an ORCA card, you'd be spending $8. Then, the one way fare for an adult to go from Downtown Seattle to the Airport Station is $3, so then you'd have a $2 balance remaining on the card if you loaded it with the minimum.
However, there should be an option to NOT use an ORCA card and just pay the cash fare of $3 with either cash or cc at the station kiosk.
Granted, I'm not a native Seattle person, but I hope my information was accurate and helpful!
