- Sinus lift or maxillary sinus augmentation is an oral surgery procedure where a bone graft is placed in the maxillary sinus to allow implant placement.

Maxillary sinuses are air-filled cavities that are inside the face. Over the time, they may start to expand due to various causes. One is the lack of teeth that delimitates it. If the sinus is so widespread that there is no sufficient bone height available, it will not be possible to place implants there without grafting previously.
This type of graft is known as sinus lift. It consists of getting an access to the sinus, then the sinus membrane is lifted and filled with bone graft material, which could be artificial, coming from animals or from the same person. Finally, a membrane is placed in the access area, which will gradually be reabsorbed. After the intervention, the graft is left to heal for 6-9 months before placing implants. In certain cases, it is possible to place the implants simultaneously in the same surgery.

Hahaha! I had one today and might as well have been in a plane crash. 3 hrs of bone cutting and drilling. Very painful afterwards. Wish I kept my real tooth !

Just had this done and didnt know what they were on about because on other back tooth side needed bone graft. But now this totally shows what it was and what the differance is

@@cinnamorollgirl743 no it only took few minutes to do once the anestetic was done they did this first and then put the implant in then stitched it up.....

What happens if the sinus membrane gets punctured or removed
Not likely because the membrane is very tough
Schneiderian membrane depending on individual is not really tough and can be disrupted by the operator but in such cases augmentation with collagen membrane barrier inserted by the operator this has a result of slightly increased recovery time of around extra month and more significant swelling in 72h after surgery.Other ways to deal with it is fibrin glue or sutures but those are uncommon in clinical practice.
I like how they just remove the gums like its no big deal.
I had the procedure done today. It cost 2600 and my dental insurance didn’t cover any of it.
Hi Brian, is it painful? Do you have any bruises on your face? Which teeth did you do the sinus lifting? Upper jaw or lower jaw?
It’s not really painful at all besides the shot on the roof of my mouth to numb me up. No bruising at all but some swelling in the cheek area but not too bad at all.
Sorry, I had it done on my upper right. Very minimal bleeding too.
I believe it. I just signed with Aetna Dental discount since I could not get clarity on a true dental insurance coverage. My implant package is about 4 grand. Outrageous. I wish you a health quick recovery.
@@adrenaline260 I just had it done, did you? Im experiencing alot of discomfort! Im 11 days post operation and still some swelling, and lately experiencing terrible odor and bad smell inside the sinuses that goes into my mouth! I wash my mouth every few hours and still feel insecure to get close to people because of the smell, its very distressing. No infection just blood crusting inside probably, have anyone experienced that? Thanks
