I know as an 11 year old from Northern Ireland the first time I watched the trooper on VHS at a mates house 34 years ago I was hooked for life it changed everything not just music for me. 👍🇬🇧
Iron Maiden showed me that it is ok to listen to and play Metal with a grin on your face, having fun, fool around and to just put your heart into music instead of some kind of attitude. Great video with the right amount of excitement this band deserves. Up the Irons!
I wish you could have gotten some live performances to throw in. That being said, the mistakes that were made in the studio could only be heard by isolating the tracks. When mixed together, they not only melt away, but add an unbelievable amount of character to the performances. They truly have earned their status as legends.
Love your face expressions during the solos, Warren... that's how I feel inside when I hear Maiden!!! Saw them live, the Powerslave tour in Binghamton NY 1985, and it totally changed my life. Iron Maiden RULES!!! Sometimes when I'm working drywall and painting in people's homes, I still listen to Maiden but they dont know... its Thomas Zwinjsen, Nylon Maiden. An absolute amazing classical guitar approach to the great metal band! They just think it sounds pretty! LoL
I've loved Maiden for a long time, and probably my fave song is Aces High, but since seeing them live just last year after a long time, I keep thinking a lot how The Trooper is the perfect song. There's nothing excessive, no lag, no filler, superb performances, a harrowing tale, and it grips you from start to finish, no letting off, no escape, just like the light brigade must've felt. Awesome.
You know, I went to see the Irons in June 2023 in Leeds for the first time. Im 53 and took my 16 yesr old son who is a huge fan. When youre watching them and you see Jannick's poses, Dave and Adrian's face melts you think... ha cliché... THEN you remember that these legends ARE the godfather's of the face melting solo, and they are the originals... absolutely wonderful and the best live act Ive ever seen which includes: Kiss, ACDC, The Police, U2, The Stones, and dozens of others.
Thank you Warren, Maiden is clearly one of those bands that you can't describe them easily. Even they probably couldn't. You just have to enjoy the chemistry there and just listen to it! I've been a fan of all the 80's albums and i 'll be to the end of my time. Amazing musicians and AMAZING producer behind them who was a master at put out their best "takes" and record and mix them beautifully. It was great to be a teenager listening to them in their prime.
Perfect, every word. We were 6th row, center for Powerslave in Atlanta. To this day the tightest, most energetic performance witnessed. Just astounding with an enduring legacy as the very best of the genre. And yes, badasses! Being a pilot is one thing, captaining a 757 is quite another (also thinking of Steve Morse). Excellent role models.
Maiden damn near defined my life and my bass playing in high school in the late 80s. Now just a few years later I'm playing primarily funk, but my bass lines are still very heavily influenced by the & of 4 feel that Maiden made famous. Great stuff Warren!
I'm probably a bit too proud of it, but the "Piece of Mind" album was the first record I ever bought with my own (paper route) money when I was 9, going on 10, in spring of '83. "The Trooper" is still my favourite Maiden song, all these years later. They are undeniably one of the most influential and legendary metal bands of all time. Great video man, first of yours I've seen, loved it, and after looking at what else you got going on here you've definitely got my sub!
This is my all-time favorite album and guitar tone. I wish Martin was still around to tell us how he got that amazing midrange crunch, Adrian's lead tone on this song is huge!
At least live, Dave and Adrian would boost the mids on their Marshalls and cut the bass to allow for Harris to sit in the mix, and use an OD to boost the solos.
I was born in 84 so I listened to Iron Maiden due to the game Carmagedon, where they had the music of them... I was listening to Metallica, Korn etc. mostly at that time, so it was a nice addition to my old MP3 player during my high school time! Thank you Warren!
“Heavy metal and mullets, it's how we were raised Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised” - Sum41 Fat Lip. Even if you don’t like or know of them, the influence of Iron Maiden on a group of Ajax, Ontario teenagers is testament to how far reaching and important they are. Trooper is an incredible song, but as pointed out, there are so many more. Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner live is so epic and chilling and shows off the whole band’s talent and musicianship. R&R HoF, get your act together and vote them in next year!
"Sir" Bruce Dickinson is, and will always be an iconic singer, with a range that traverses our auditory span! And don't forget the eloquence....the grammar, the storytelling, the non expletives, what else do we need? Yeah, the plane flying helps too!
We used buy our cassettes at this little hole in the wall music store. He turned us on to Judas priest, merciful fate and others. One-day he pulled us aside and said youve got to listen to this new band. He played a song and we were blown away. So of coarse we bought a cassette. We drove back to the community center where all the teens drank and got high. Threw the tape in the pioneer supertuner with the 40 watt kraco power amp and Jensen tri axial speakers and introduced everyone to Iron Maiden. That first album literally blew our minds. We must've played it 20 times. I can remember like it was yesterday, seeing all of us playing air guitar in the parking lot. One of my friends was blown away by the bass player. He later on became on of the greatest metal bassist for the biggest metal band of my generation. That band was Metallica and his name is Clifford Burton. May he rest in peace. One of Castro Valleys legends. Along with the band Tesla. And Michael Borden of Faith no More.
If there's one thing I find cool about audio engineers it's when they really disappear into the music: head bobbing, grins, etc. That's why I've been following this channel for years: respect, Warren. :)
Wow, I've also learned Phantom of the Opera as one of the first things on electric guitar as a young teenager (after some years of classical guitar). Never heard anyone else say that.
Punching above weigh? The understatement of the century! you kidding me? "All" of the greatest bands are from UK, until you get to the 2nd string, In history e.g. the Eagles, Aerosmith and The beach boys.. The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd, The who, the police, deep purple, cream, the Bee Gees.most of these are more influential and have sales above "all other bands", in the history of popular music, including USA
Great video. Thanks for featuring one of the best of all time. Funny thing about maiden is they appeal to multiple generations. High school kids still love them
Spring of 87 in North Carolina outside the Marine Corps base there was a music shop that had a huge book of all the music etc , And on the cover was the Trooper .., like 14 inches tall., with everything around him ,././.,. I took that to the tattoo shop and got the full Trooper on my back ., 36 years ago.,. 2 years ago I went into the same shop and there was a polaroid of me on the wall still ,.,
Iron Maiden are one of the bands I have never had the opportunity to see in the flesh. They are by far the best band I have ever listened to and I am so happy that my two daughters aged ten and seven are starting to take a liking (especially my eldest who particularly likes Rime Of The Ancient Mariner). They hit the mark in every area and I hope they carry on for many more years yet
Wonderful, goosebumps galore!! This was "my first band", grew up listening to them and have all LP´s and some, I hope, rare singles on vinyl up until Fear Of The Dark. Hearing Bruce´s vocals alone like that was amazing. Wow! I want to hear more!
Thank you for this. Seriously. I love all the songs that you do in this series, but it's especially nice to see Maiden getting some love. Up the Irons!
Agree Bruce is one of Rocks greatest singers and entertainers. Everytime they visit the Netherlands, I'm there, and after all these years he still nails it. Timeless rock. Oh and while we are on it, can we get the multitracks ?🤪
It was my first encounter with Iron Maiden. At high school a friend of a classmate compiled a tape for me with some metal at my request (I was 14, this was in 1990). This song has been one of my favorite metal tunes ever (I remember it also had songs like Slayer - South of Heaven, Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls and I remember some Crimson Glory).
Great video on an amazing all-time great band! One of my favs is Niko. He's just so down to earth and makes a lot of mistakes because he's not afraid to go for it.
When I was a High School Senior just over 30 years ago, I was in English Lit. My teacher introduced "Rime of The Ancient Mariner." Being a 17 year old kid, I blurt out "Iron Maiden!" However, This was "Rime of The Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor-Coleridge. Whoops....lol. But I had first heard of "Rime of The Ancient Mariner" because of Iron Maiden, so that's pretty cool.
Piece Of Mind is one of the greatest albums of all time (of any genre). I was a teenage, bass playing, Steve Harris fanatic who spent all his free time jamming to those early Maiden albums (when I wasn't partying too hard lol). These guys so positively affected so many young musicians. I've been a MF of a player all my life and it's because of those guys!
Yes I was telling my son about all the albums he produced/engineered. I remember reading that Martin knew how to get the most out the console so would love to see Warren's insight into that.
And yes, please adress the (to me uncalled for-) critique I sometimes hear about how Martin Birch handles bass in his mixes. I mean, Ritchie Blackmore said Martins mix of Rising (by Rainbow, one of my favorites) lacked bass. It doesn't, but it's not in your face. It lacks perhaps the deep end bass. My father said the same thing about The Number of The Beast, and he is in the recording business. I've never reflected on it myself, but I can see what they mean.
This song was my introduction to Maiden. I was hooked from that point on. Finally got to see them live in Houston 5 or 6 years ago (Book of Souls Tour), Phenomenal.
My favorite band when I was at school. Absolutely loved them. The energy was great. One of those bands where everyone in the band were brilliant at their instrument and gelled well together. Thanks for this wonderful trip down memory lane, it's great
Adrian Smith Wasted TIme intro is the most iconic! I ve started buying records-bc of the Eddie! The Art Work on covers was so important back in the days. Finally,I ve met my wife indirectly because of the Maiden show :) and made several life long friends
I'm late to this, but it was a great watch. I agreed with every word you said. The first album I bought was Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, and I had no idea I'd already hit the pinnacle. I actually drifted slightly away from rock and metal until the Japanese scene reignited my love of it a couple of years ago. It's common to see fans of e.g. Band-Maid, Sokoninaru, Asterism, Gacharic Spin and Lovebites say "the problem is, I now find the simpler music I used to listen to boring", and I have to admit, there's some truth in that for me too. But with a big exception: Iron Maiden. I can put on their albums and they sound as rich and creative now as they did decades ago. They are timeless.
I remember being obsessed with the Powerslave album as a kid, still one of my favourite live bands to go and see now, love them! Steve Harris, what a bass player, I love that you can hear the clanking of the strings hitting the frets in his playing. So full of energy and drive!
Speaking of gateway, my older brother always bought records and played them as loud as my parents would allow lol. The Number of the Beast was my break into Iron Maiden. When my brother played that title track, wow, I was instantly an Iron Maiden fan. I am to this day! I recently started collecting "albums" and bought the newest Senjutsu album. Fantastic! Brings me back to Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, Seventh Son. An epic album, like they all are. Incredible!! They are a melting pot of amazing musicians!!
Iron Maiden really arethe band that doesit live. Saw them last year. Despite being in their 60s and 70s (I think), still easily the best live performance I've ever seen.
Warren, you are a great storyteller, totally nailed this song 👍 (Nicko McBrain may be one of the best drumers of heavy metal... his playing is out of the ordinary because he connects songs parts with very jazzy-big band alike fills, takes very cool micro-rests as part of the rythm.... very unique style) Do Master of Puppets 🤘 or Raining blood, man! King Diamond´s Welcome Home. 💀
Maiden were the first metal band I got into all the way back in the depths of pre-history.... in about 1987 :) On tapes copied from a friend at high school. So many classic tracks...
I love The Trooper but I'd love to hear your take on some of their more complex songs. Something like Phantom of the Opera, Rime of the Ancient Mariner or To Tame a Land.

Every musician are 1000 % professional, each show was like a final of world soccer cup OR a Super Bowl.
Absolutely! Mistakes are what make it perfect to me
Love your face expressions during the solos, Warren... that's how I feel inside when I hear Maiden!!!
LoL
Haha thanks ever so much! Yes, I'm a huge fan!
Scream for me Warren! What a band, still pumping out great music & live shows.
Thanks ever so much!
OMG! How glorious is that drum sound?!
Agreed! Amazing!
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate you sharing all of that!
Bruce is no longer piloting and the 747 the band had leased ,i'm sadden to say that has also been retired and is no longer in service!
@@kenbongaards554 that's sad to hear. C'est la vie!
Iron maiden is one my favorite band.....🤟🤟🤟
Mine too!
Maiden damn near defined my life and my bass playing in high school in the late 80s. Now just a few years later I'm playing primarily funk, but my bass lines are still very heavily influenced by the & of 4 feel that Maiden made famous. Great stuff Warren!
Yes, Steve Harris is a huge talent and as a songwriter and Bassplayer he's second to none! Very inspiring indeed!
This... when you stumble upon a video, so nicely done that makes your day.
Thanks ever so much
I'm probably a bit too proud of it, but the "Piece of Mind" album was the first record I ever bought with my own (paper route) money when I was 9, going on 10, in spring of '83. "The Trooper" is still my favourite Maiden song, all these years later. They are undeniably one of the most influential and legendary metal bands of all time. Great video man, first of yours I've seen, loved it, and after looking at what else you got going on here you've definitely got my sub!
Thanks ever so much for your great comment! I really appreciate it
This is my all-time favorite album and guitar tone. I wish Martin was still around to tell us how he got that amazing midrange crunch, Adrian's lead tone on this song is huge!
Agreed, huge fan of his production!
At least live, Dave and Adrian would boost the mids on their Marshalls and cut the bass to allow for Harris to sit in the mix, and use an OD to boost the solos.
@@ericv7720 great tip! Makes perfect sense to me!
I was born in 84 so I listened to Iron Maiden due to the game Carmagedon, where they had the music of them... I was listening to Metallica, Korn etc. mostly at that time, so it was a nice addition to my old MP3 player during my high school time!
Thank you Warren!
“Heavy metal and mullets, it's how we were raised
Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised” - Sum41 Fat Lip.
Love Iron Maiden!
Thanks ever so much!!
Steve Harris is my biggest influence as a bassist Arry is the man.
Hugely important Bassplayer! And songwriter!
Yes! Up the Irons!!!
Haha indeed
I just can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve done this.
Aw shucks!! Thanks ever so much
If there's one thing I find cool about audio engineers it's when they really disappear into the music: head bobbing, grins, etc. That's why I've been following this channel for years: respect, Warren. :)
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much!
Wow, I've also learned Phantom of the Opera as one of the first things on electric guitar as a young teenager (after some years of classical guitar). Never heard anyone else say that.
Thanks ever so much! Yes, amazing guitar part and incredible riff
@@Producelikeapro first Death metal riff is that bit from Phantom of the opera
Best concert I ever went to was Iron Maiden as the Headliner, with Testament and Corrosion of Conformity opening. Outdoor at Cal Expo.
So happy to hear you do Iron Maiden. Thank you! Hearing the isolated parts (even with bleed) really helps me hear the song new again.
Thanks ever so much! So glad you enjoyed it
For me the greatest band from the U.K. . When you think of it the U.K. punches way above its weight in the music industry
Great band!
High school kids still love them
Thanks ever so much!
Maiden was my Gateway into Metal back in 81/82 when I had just been listening to Punk
Fantastic
Spring of 87 in North Carolina outside the Marine Corps base there was a music shop that had a huge book of all the music etc , And on the cover was the Trooper .., like 14 inches tall., with everything around him ,././.,. I took that to the tattoo shop and got the full Trooper on my back ., 36 years ago.,. 2 years ago I went into the same shop and there was a polaroid of me on the wall still ,.,
… I‘ve really been waiting for you to cover maiden and now you honestly gave me some goosebumps. Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks ever so much!
I've not even watched the video yet but wanted to say how happy I am that you've done a video on Maiden 😊❤
Thanks ever so much!
So amazing live!!
@@Producelikeapro fingers crossed I get to see them soon
I am a big Iron Maiden fan an have been since there first album. Great to see a in singht like this on a song that I love.
Wonderful, goosebumps galore!! This was "my first band", grew up listening to them and have all LP´s and some, I hope, rare singles on vinyl up until Fear Of The Dark. Hearing Bruce´s vocals alone like that was amazing. Wow! I want to hear more!
Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you for this. Seriously. I love all the songs that you do in this series, but it's especially nice to see Maiden getting some love. Up the Irons!
Thanks ever so much Jeremy! I really appreciate it
Agree Bruce is one of Rocks greatest singers and entertainers.
Yes, Nicko is amazing!
Thank you for this Warren.
Thanks ever so much
Love Iron Maiden ❤️ Always electrifying live.
Agreed! Amazing
Had the honor of seeing them at the Norfolk Scope when their PIECE OF MIND album was released....kicked arse and took no prisoners!
Wow! Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it!
Iron Maiden, among other things, have some of the greatest Stop Time riffs.
Yes, absolutely amazing!
They are the best band I've seen live. So tight. Can't wait to see them again in July!
Greatness! Where are you seeing them?
@@Producelikeapro at the O2 in London.
@@MarkHarrop amazing!
Pure. Metal. no other words necessary.
Thanks ever so much
When I was a High School Senior just over 30 years ago, I was in English Lit.
What a band…I had Life After Death live in long beach on vcr…timelessness ❤
Life After Death is by far the best live performance ever to be laid on tape!!Up the Irons!!
Very well said!
Agreed, masterpiece
Was there all 4 nights in a row. Rockin the Eddy mask. Good times.
Really inspiring content, like all your videos. Thank you warren, your attitude to music is a gift to everyone watching
Thanks ever so much!
I NEVER HEARD IT LIKE THIS BEFORE .....PURE GOLD .....
Thanks ever so much!
Got to see Maiden four times in the 80's. WOW!!!!!
The best of the shows was at Merriweather Post Pavilion with Accept, in 85 I believe. Legends.
Warren, can you do a video on Martin Birch? What a legend he was.
YES! On the list! Thanks ever so much!
The call and response reminds me of Great Balls of Fire. Also, looking forward, that goosebump guitar section has echoes in Metallica’s Orion.
Yes, amazing!
This song was my introduction to Maiden. I was hooked from that point on. Finally got to see them live in Houston 5 or 6 years ago (Book of Souls Tour), Phenomenal.
I met Nicko at the 1989 London Music Fair and he was really open and approachable.
That’s wonderful to hear
There is a LOT of classical influence as well, in many of Maiden's chord choices! \m/
Absolutely!
My favorite band when I was at school. Absolutely loved them. The energy was great. One of those bands where everyone in the band were brilliant at their instrument and gelled well together. Thanks for this wonderful trip down memory lane, it's great
Thanks ever so much Joey!
I learned to play guitar and love metal because of Maiden. Supporting them and still a big fan since 1984.
Marvellous
Thanks ever so much for sharing! I really appreciate it
Off script parts were the best! You clearly love the song and it makes this one of your best vids.
Wow!! Thanks ever so much
@@Producelikeapro especially that off-script part at 07:13 🤣

Gonna keep begging for King's X. Gretchen goes to Nebraska would be my album choice but Ill settle for Dogman.
I’ve reached out to them in the past couple of years!! Not for want of trying
I'll never not love twin harmonizing guitars.... If you ever feel like doing, for example, Thin Lizzy, I'd be very happy
Love Thin Lizzy! Here is a video we did on Thin Lizzy:- czcams.com/video/-Ml0-8BQEK4/video.html
Iron Maiden really arethe band that doesit live. Saw them last year. Despite being in their 60s and 70s (I think), still easily the best live performance I've ever seen.
thx for the service For the Youth . It is the band that made me a musician and music lover. THE band.
Warren, you are a great storyteller, totally nailed this song 👍 (Nicko McBrain may be one of the best drumers of heavy metal... his playing is out of the ordinary because he connects songs parts with very jazzy-big band alike fills, takes very cool micro-rests as part of the rythm.... very unique style)
Do Master of Puppets 🤘 or Raining blood, man! King Diamond´s Welcome Home. 💀
Up the Irons from Panama! Saw them at Rock in Rio 2019. One of the most epic nights of my life!
HIUGE fan of Phantom Of The Opera!
@@Producelikeapro I love the Life After Death version as you can almost hear the tubes screaming for mercy from onslaught from Dave and Adrian!!
I love Live After Death. It was THE soundtrack to my teenage years.
Maiden's amazing. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they've almost had as much influence in the world of rock and roll as Missy Elliot.
Iron Maiden up to 1984's Live After Death are phenominal and a must for any metal head's collection.
FANTASTIC VIDEO !!! And agree with all you`re statement. I have seen a LOTS of bands over th years of all style... ( prog like Pink Floyd, Marillion, Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson and so on ... Metal ; Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Sepultura, and so on ... Rock, ; Aerosmith, Gun`s & Rose, Paul Mc Cartney, Elton John,... Jazz, Pop, Classical ... I LIKE MUSIC !!! And without of a doubt Maiden was THE BEST live band ever period. They are just PERFECT ! Every musician are 1000 % professional, each show was like a final of world soccer cup OR a Super Bowl. They are NEVER sold her music for commercial pupose ( the always refused pub no matter how much the money was...). At almost 50 years in business they always keep her music on integrity side, with almost always on the top stage of Hard rock scene ( except 2-3 years with Blaze ). The only album i doesn`t like is Virtual ( few good one , but not really good at my taste...).

@@Producelikeapro I did a lot of clinic tours in the late 80s early 90s with Nicko and Phil Hilborne.
