    Highly recommended...5 speed gearbox, either an LT77 or R380 stumpy. That 200 will inevitably, chew up, and spit out the LT75. You will need an Ashcroft conversation kit, shortened prop shaft and a few chassis mods(not a big deal with the mig welder) also, glencoyne engine mount, soft shore hardness of rubber. Cheers

      Thanks for your recommendations. I had thought about changing the gearbox but I'm very reluctant to alter the chassis due to it being galvanized.
      The engine mounts sound familiar, I think they're the ones I fitted.
      I believe Ashcroft also do a high ratio transfer case kit that I like the look of.
      Thanks for watching 👍

      I did my conversion 18 years ago still on the same crash box, disco diffs, and I use it everyday, just depends how you drive it, keep doing doughnuts and F1 traffic light starts it won't last.

    Nice series 3 88" I plan to do pretty much the same but with the 300TDi onto series gearbox, I also own a C10 but mines an 84 Silverado square body long bed, you just gained another subscriber..

      Thanks Brian.
      I think the 300 is meant to be a bit more refined, my 200 is very noisy.
      Good choice of C10, I like a square body.
      Thanks for the sub.👍

    Hi nice and tidy job well done ,did a few myself with the turbo and without bit easy to do with 88 compared to 109 with turbo, I was getting 40mpg with no turbo and towing a mini digger, the few turbo conversions I did not use the intercooler but did have electric fan and 10000 miles later still going no problem at all ,yours looks smart with power steering, well done ,Aidan in Ireland

      Thanks Aidan. I'm not sure what mpg this one is doing but it's pretty good, must be in the 30's. I helped a friend convert a series 3 to a 200di about 10 years ago. The conversion is a little simpler without the turbo and intercooler, but still a great upgrade. Cheers AD

      @@Classic-Shack Hi Mate, sorry if I missed it but does this one in the video have the turbo fitted or not? I heard it's mainly a space issue in the engine bay, and that's why some don't have the turbo?

    • @Classic-Shack
      @Classic-Shack  Před rokem

      @@hblazza Hi, yes mine has the turbo fitted. You do have to clock the turbo in order to be able to run the pipework to it. I also cut the front panel in order to mount the intercooler.
      Mine is an 88", but I've heard it's more awkward on a 109" due to the chassis shape being different.

      @@Classic-Shack Many thanks, what do you mean by clock? Rotate? I’m looking at an 88 without the turbo. I wonder if the extra power with the turbo takes its toll on other components that weren’t designed for it? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Thanks for your great vid 👍

    • @Classic-Shack
      @Classic-Shack  Před rokem

      @@hblazza yeah, you have to rotate the housing on inlet side of the turbo. I have had no issues but then I don't drive it hard .
      Thanks 👍

    The 200tdi seems very tolerant to not having a fan. One of mine eventually blew the cap off (using the TDI plastic header tank & radiator on this one) during a hot summer when sat idling / low speed for several hours off road. Filled it back up with water and suffered no issues whereas some 300tdis have been hit and miss after this happening.
    I am making space for the viscous fan during its current rebuild as it will be doing a lot of idling / low speed potentially in hotter climates = no air flow

    • @Classic-Shack
      @Classic-Shack  Před rokem +1

      I've not used this off road but did have a series years ago with a 200di conversion that I used off road. I also ran that without a fan and again never had any overheating issues.
      Guessing it would be a good idea though in warmer climates.
      What do you have and where are you planning on using it?

    • @lowen74s
      @lowen74s Před rokem +2

      I've got a small collection 😅 2x S2's, an S3, P38 and D2. The Series's are always the last ones working when the P38 and D2 need fixing, they all have 200TDI's.
      The S3 is being rebuilt so it can be daily driven but go greenlaning and road trips. Wales would be the most frequent road trip destination as been a few times but like the idea of the Portsmouth to Santander ferry to have a road trip round Spain.

    • @Classic-Shack
      @Classic-Shack  Před rokem +2

      @@lowen74s That's a nice collection, I like the idea of having a 2 or 2A.
      Sounds like a cool roadtrip, I don't think I'm hardcore enough to do those distances in an old landy🤣

    Hold the camera steady, and make very slow movements, not rapid transitions. I got seasick trying to watch this. But thanks for the vid.
