SUNDAYS AT THE CHATEAU: THE LITTLE SISTINE CHAPEL OF THE BERRY!

  • This Sunday I'm delighted to reveal a local jewel to you - the Church of Saint Martin in the village of Vic. It contains one of the most important set of romanesque frescoes in France, which are nearly 900 years old! They are a masterpiece of 12th century art, and I feel unbelievably lucky to live so near to such artistic treasures.
The frescoes and the church urgently require restauration. Both the French government and the local authorities have donated money, but there remains a shortfall of €40,000 to save these treasures.
If you would like to donate, please follow this link:
    www.fondation-...
The website is only in French. On the first page you can ignore the options regarding tax - they're just to give French taxpayers an idea of how much they will be able to deduct from their taxes if they donate. You will be asked to give your name and address - if you do so, your name will go onto a plaque showing all of the donors.
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau', chatelaine Stephanie answers all your questions about life in the 16th century Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. You have made The Chateau Diaries one of the top 1000 Patreon accounts in the world, and have transformed not only out lives here, but the future of this beautiful chateau! I’m overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

A HUGE thank you to everyone that donated with Superchats during the premiere of this video! You raised €475 for the church!!! CZcams take a 30% cut of that, but I've decided to cover that myself, so I have just sent the total amount of €475 . Added to the previous €500 that I've already sent (as an advance on the ad revenue from this video, all of which I'm donating to the church fund), so far we've raised €975 for the restoration of the Church of Saint Martin in Vic! And I'm sure that many of you will have donated directly through the link below, so we're making a big difference to the renovation fund! Yay!

I think this vlog also gives us a sneak peek of how awesome michael and stephanie are going to be as co hosts for their new youtube channel looking at other chateaus. I know some people have suggested they should get their own tv show but i feel it would lose its freshness, immediacy and intimacy that these vlogs give us.

    • @onedandylion
      @onedandylion Před 4 lety +7

I agree - there would be more of a television 'template' format and the needs of advertisers to consider, which could mean that they, as hosts, would lose their freedom to improvise.

Yes great idea but they would lose their integrity. Fixer Upper chip & Joanna said they quit because they were told how to react & what to do. The show had to be “ produced” so their real ideas & format was lost. Probably the reason we love all the honesty & caring friends in the blogs. We are actually hearing words & getting the info the bloggers want us to have.

Wonderful idea!! they hold concerts in churches all. the. time - I've been to so many in Paris and Rome!! . I mean, what about the bingo halls in churches? not really too to precious correct? As a- Catholic - I think the reverence ship has sailed c'EST pas? ...well... that's a much larger, and much more irreverent conversation that is appropriate here... but I think it's a WONDERFUL idea! Stephanie if the church says yes - then go for it!! All for the greater good!! Btw - everytime someone says "the great and the good" I think "I know of one of those😊" say singing

Your song was a treasure too. I can't believe such a full beautiful voice comes out of such a small person. What a blessing today was.

This is an example of the very best of Stephanie, her enthusiasm and knowledge of history is simply amazing, a natural orator and we all benefit being able to watch and be educated also and introduced to wonderful vlogs, personally I always watch the vlog for a second or third time to be able to take in so much information, my God Stephanie listening to the singing was very spiritual and moving, I had tears of joy.
Your father would be so proud of what you have achieved, you have followed your dream and it is joyful. Xxx

Interesting History Lesson here from the Art to the Theology. Hope they can raise the Funds. Maybe they should appeal to the Vatican as this is such an important part of Ancient Church Art to be preserved.

I beg to differ the Catholic Church will always have had something to do with it historically anyway.

Wow Wow Wow - You had me at the Church, but bowled me over with singing Ave Maria. Maybe you could go to the congregation once a month there and sing like an angel. Everyone that goes could make a 1 Euro donation to the church. I think you would have them lining up out the door! The amount they need would clock up so quickly with that little enticer !!

Although I'm not religious, I have to admire the history and the artwork of the Church. I very much had the same reaction as Michael to this magnificent place. Thanks to Google translate, this American from the Detroit area just gave €10 to restore this amazing piece of history in France! I hope to visit someday.

Stephanie's presentation of this video and the explanation was incredible with a production quailty that all give a feel this was a part of commissioned series for a terrestrial channel.
