To this day I wish I had walked away cussing at them but I ended up being quite polite.... anyway.. YES IT IS OKAY TO QUIT absssssolutelyyyyy!! I am not kidding, I was always bothered by an old fart who was the boss's dad. He had no business being there but he talked for hours. That alone was harassing. But he mentioned how his third wife was no longer the same in bed, that neighbours were gossiping that he slept with his own daughters, that his daughter in law was cheating,... Bla bla bla. Nasty stuff. And then he would try to leech info about MY love and sex life so I made up that I had a partner and made stuff up because I had told hjm before I was single but maybe he thought that put a stamp on my forehead that said "abuse me". When I said I had a bf now, I saw something in his eyes. A smirk. I wanted to beat it off his face. Old fart boomer then gave me sex advice, told me to smile more. I wanted to kill him. Fucking nasty old farts.

I’ve gotten in trouble for things I never learned or didn’t even do. In their eyes I’m nice and weak. But realistically I’m holding it together so I don’t cuss at them or leave. It’s to the point that I get anxiety and I dread Sunday’s. I’m working on leaving. I will leave. I’m so prepared that I don’t keep anything personal at my desk and I delete any personal information on my PC. Hoping my confidence can be boosted when I leave.

    I have PTSD from working at toxic work environments too. I got stories for days! Lucky the last toxic place I worked for doesn't exists anymore. Small business or not... new or old...there is no excuse to be nasty to your employees! Here's some tips...
    1) Note every time someone is harassing you or making you feel uncomfortable on the job( boss or co- work it dont matter), put where it happened, date and time of the interaction. So keep a small notebook/notepad in your pocket,bag,or in your car if you are not able to have written material at your desk. Take notes when something happens.
    2) Go to HR and report these interactions. If you dont have HR (red flag!) go to your local labor board! If HR doesn't handle it go to the labor board with your evidence and report!
    3)If all else fails and you can't handle it LEAVE!
    4) Speak to a mentor or counselor/therapists so they can help you avoid toxic places or help you see the red flags and better prepare you on the next job.
    5)Always stand up for yourself and what you believe in. SPEAK UP and demand respect!
    Your mental health is not worth staying in toxic environments, no amount of money will make up for the trauma it has caused!

    • @Saturn890
      @Saturn890 Před 4 lety +7

      I have PTSD now from my toxic job I got let go from simply because upper management didn’t like me. I could not trust anyone not even HR (who wasn’t even qualified to hold that title, they had no training in HR procedures). I was being bullied by my superior and told HR in confidentiality about my concerns and what does the idiot do? He goes and blabs about it to the president of the company. So she decided she needed to have a “talk” with me and proceeds to blame me for whatever I was enduring and said she didn’t blame my boss for doing what he did. She said she wouldn’t be surprised if my boss decided he no longer wished to have me work at that company and surprise surprise, I was let go a few months later.
      I definitely need counseling after that and have lost my trust of people.

    • @Saturn890
      @Saturn890 Před 4 lety +2

      M Muss Thank you for your kind words. It wasn’t that people didn’t like me, I was hired by completely different people in charge at the time and all was well in terms of my performance. My bosses loved me! I learned the jobs of 3 people in less than 2 weeks and did them to the best of my abilities with the limited knowledge I had (I had to cover for 3 people as 2 of them went on vacation and one left on maternity leave when I started). My original boss quit due to the high levels of toxicity she was enduring from that same President.
      Her doctors even suggested she quit. She was replaced by a girl younger than me who had no business being a director especially considering that was her first real job and her background was in cosmetology. She was a great brown noser and talked her way into getting a directors position. She began to hire her friends and family and put them in positions of power. To make room for their extreme salaries she was promising them, she was the one to convince the other unqualified managers (my boss’ background was in poetry to give you an idea) to come up with a list of employees they wanted to let go. My boss had hired a bunch of his friends so of course he let me and the other co-workers on my team who were not part of his inner circle. It took me a while to realize it wasn’t me. I’m not perfect but I have never had issues with superiors except for the ones at this company because they let favoritism get in the way.

She was the definition of unprofessional. The last straw for me was when she posted on social media calling us stupid and how she hated her employees. I kinda regret not reporting her to corporate after that but then I realized that I wanted nothing to do with that company. I love my line of work and coworkers but there are some things about the direction things are going in that make the place no longer a good fit for me. This is happening to me right now. My boss isn't a bad person, but sometimes I think that her emotions can get ahead of her and she'll project those feelings onto me. At first in the very beginning it wasn't a problem at all, but now I'm 5 years in and I'm sick and tired of her sh*t. I already have problems with anxiety, which lead to me clenching my jaw and grind my teeth. Just going to work and being in that office now triggers me to have tension headaches and pain in my face because I'd felt so stressed that I'd tense up my facial muscles involuntarily.
    Just as an example recently, my boss blamed me for something that I didn't do. She thought I had let the business next door take away a (wealthy) client of ours. She didn't even ask me what happened... she just assumed that I drove away clientele, and so she proceeded to ignored me and gave me the silent treatment all day long. My coworker had to tell me that my boss was raging at me as I had no idea what I had even done.... my coworker then tried to explain my side to her, but she just wasn't having it and she was lost in a fit of rage. The next day she asked me my side of the story and straight up told me I was wrong and that it didn't happen. When she found out that it wasn't my fault, she didn't even apologize to me.... she just pretended like nothing happened and started talking and laughing with me again. I was at my wits end and I couldn't deal with this emotional roller coaster any longer. My last day is on Saturday and I can't wait to GTFO!!

She treated me like dirt - yelled at me, cussed at me, talked about me to others, called other employees names to me and lied like crazy. After two years of her putting me down, having anxiety attacks, and being made to feel like I was incompetent,I called her out on her hostility to the CEO. Of course she denied everything and the CEO believed her. I resigned the next day and only worked a week, not two. Best decision I ever made to get out of that toxic, work environment. Shortly after I found out that at least 5 other people in the office thought the same way I did and couldnt stand her. No job is worth your health and wellbeing.

    I just recently left a bad job a few months ago. I left because I realized 1. That the promotion I was working for was never going to come and 2. I was tired of being belittled and bullied at work. Like you, all of my confidence and self worth went out the window and it got so bad that I believed that I didn’t deserve better and that I didn’t deserve to live. My life literally imploded. I lost friends or people I thought were my friends I should say. I got evicted and had to move home but I feel like a person again. I used to get cussed out almost daily by one of my bosses and they often dared me to leave by saying that I wasn’t important to the job and I was easily replaceable. Objectively I know that’s true but I feel bad for anybody that has to work at a place like that. I was just trying to better my life and be able to make more money for my family. I’m still dealing with the after effects on my mental health. I felt like I had lost control of my mind. I found out that my boss got fired for having sex with an employee a couple of months after I left but it almost made me feel worse that that was the kind of person who the company let abuse me and other employees. I realize now that positions of power attract abusers because they only feel fulfillment through making others feel like they really do on the inside. I guess it’s a lesson that you really have to go through to understand it and to understand how to deal with it.

    You are exactly describing my unprofessional narcissistic boss. Where she talked bad about some employees including me when i heard her once saying that my work quality is poor while everyone in the workstation encouraged me a lot and even the general manager once saw my work and approved it. Anyway, the unprofessionalism escalated when she started mistreating me infront of my colleages with undermining reactions and lastly accusing me of faults and misinformation she was the one who's done at the first place. I quit when i couldn't deal anymore with the stress and gaslighting she was doing to me.

    Girl I thought I was the only one. Thank you so much for sharing your story, I went through the exact same thing at my last job. I have never in my life worked at the job so bad that it broke me mentally. I already suffered from depression but that job pushed me to the point to where I literally had a mental breakdown and I ended up committing myself into the hospital because the thought of going through that again made me want to just kill myself. I still suffer from PTSD and have some anxiety attacks when I think about applying for a job so now i have decided to just work for myself. I was literally the only one working the register with long lines. At times they would also make me do other things like stock/ getting carts. I had 4 managers and they were always rude to the customers and even me sometimes. I would always be stressed out and overwhelmed from all the work i had to do. They would also randomly change my schedule without telling me then get mad at me for not showing up that day and calling me a "no call, no show".. Yeah I had to leave that job. I am so happy I left, now I can focus on school and my other channel for showing my art to the world. Thank you for telling us!

    I work in a warehouse currently and although the pay is higher than minimum, the work is physically demanding and the leadership lack any kind of accountability. As time went on, I noticed I would be put into various situations that most of my coworkers had to deal with and some of them would even approach me and comment on it. I remember I left work for a couple of days to go out of town and a coworker told me it took multiple people to do the amount of work I normally had to do on my own. (We're already severely short staffed because the higher ups in the building want higher numbers) My passion isn't in the logistics industry at all. I make music and over these past couple of months have been making a conscious effort to make that a priority even though it's not where most of my income is coming from currently. I just don't know how much longer I can take this lol.

I was going through the exact same experience a couple of times in my job. It was great money, it was a bit of a dream job, but I needed to leave that place. It got toxic when I heard certain conversations, people being fired in person out in the open, it was rough. It's amazing that people have to go through that. Any time you feel that several times you know it's not good for you. My boss insulted my weight, and even when I was eating certain food. Even people in the office. I killed it with kindness but some days it was emotionally draining. So I feel you leave immediately get a new job. It's not your life....and you spend the majority of your time. Your health, sanity, and well-being is always a priority.

    I worked at Shipleys Donuts and that was the most emotionally and mentally damaging experience I’ve ever had in a job. My boss was a very impatient and short tempered man. I didn’t satisfy his work standards so I remember him pulling me aside and telling me he’d fire me if I mess up. Or it was something like that. I was already anxious and at that point it all became overwhelming. I went to the back and I cried. I couldn’t even stop or control myself. It got so bad that I started breathing really fast like I was hyperventilating. The manager over there was pretty bad too. He was also impatient like the boss ( which is his dad) and did things like that to me even telling me one time that I’m worthless. I really hated it when he would gossip about everyone who works there.

    I can relate to your experience with your old job soooo much. I quit my last "9-5" job towards the end of last year to pursue my career that I am in now. I went back there recently and I had a closure moment and it was a sign that I did the right thing by taking the leap of faith to leave and go after my dream career. I'm glad you were able to leave that toxic work environment and grow from it. From my experience I have learned that most of the time it's not you. It's the person dealing with their own personal problems and for some reason you remind them of their problems or what their not doing with their lives that you are doing and/or some people are just not genuinely nice people. The fact that they have to deal with genuinely nice people all the time it disturbs their spirit for some reason. Your mental health is so important. When your in situations like that you don't realize how it's effecting you in that way. I do admire how you didn't let that person break you but let it motivate you and made you become greater. Even though then you didn't think you were a strong person. I would say you were because a lot of people have been in situations like that or worse and would have stayed and let that person break them or they wouldn't have been able to handle that tough job you had. How you described yourself reminded me how I felt about myself at one point. That situation at that time was preparing for everything your experiencing today.

It was extremely busy.. and they were all okay with this cause "oh its she can handle this she works everyone's work all the time so this is fine." UH NO.. IT WASN'T. I had a 12 hour shift yesterday in the half that time in 95 degree heat with (family owned) corporate harping on me to work faster/better when I WAS THE ONLY WORKER WORKING 5 OTHER PEOPLES WORK ON A BUSY DAY and most days were similar to this but yesterday was the worst and my last straw.. so I said "okay guys this is my last day! BYE!" gave them my uniform and name tag and left.

    Awww sorry this happened to you. That was one nasty witch. I went through something similar at my last job but this woman I worked for, the CFO, was very passive-aggressive and would smile to your face and then stab you in the back, quite different from your ex-boss, and worse IMO. She overloaded me with work and would send me very passive aggressive e-mails and IMs, and when I went to talk to her she would turn her back on me and act like she was too busy. She wanted me out but I stood my ground. Finally she fired me and gave me a bullshit reason, that the company was not doing well and that my position was being "eliminated", mind you there were 2 people hired after me with my same title. I held my head up high and was classy about it even though the Miami in me wanted to come out and curse her the fuck out. I worked so hard for them for over 3 years and they didn't give a shit about that. Don't trust people. Make your own money and invest and save and invest and save and invest and save. I am at another position now which is better but I still have to watch my back for snakes and vultures. A lot of jobs like the one I told you about are all about schmoozing and kissing up and backstabbing, those are the assholes that get promoted, even if they are lazy. Be careful out there sweetie. Timaloveslemons I can tell a difference in my work ethic because of how much anxiety I have coming into work each day. I really needed to watch this because I don’t talk about it to many people because they think it’s just workplace drama when in fact it’s literally causing so much damage to my mental health. I’m a bit late, but thank you! 🙏🏽

    many of these so called bosses that are put in a manager/supervisor position are not taught how to lead thats when you get these annoying incompetent moments. Its like being around them lowers your intelligence

    I'm sorry. I think you are very strong. Keep on growing. It's her loss. She's the one who's lazy for blaming people for her lack of ability to keep up.

    Yo, your story is so interesting. I had to go through same situation. There were many ppl at my job that would use the n-word ( n still do) that DO NOT identify as black. It is so uncomfortable. I’m happy you got out . Sending good vibes 💨

    I had an ex manager (who thinks she's the boss) at my ex job, she was honestly the nastiest piece of work I have ever met. She was just a mean girl in her 30s who just had a foul mouth and was disrespectful. I was super nice and hard working and I just let karma handle it. Trust me, HOW PEOPLE TREAT YOU SPEAKS TO HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THEMSELVES AMEN. I let God handle it and I couldn't be happier

    The boss sounds like a classic text book definition of a Narcissist, Borderline, or Sociopath . The talking to employees about other employees, shifting blame, racism, lying, breaking rules.
