That race was like a fever dream. We didnt see the leaders for 45 mins while we watched the midfield run in trains, cutting away occasional for George crashing into someone or pitting.
Honestly it was dogshit. Even after drs was enabled overtakes were still extremely difficult.
@@ark4723 I mean it’s Singapore what really can u expect (basically a racing version of Monaco)
Both RB & Merc made mistakes, Ferrari didnt screw up, both Rainmasters messed up, 3 WDC finish behind Stroll and Charles couldn't beat Checo. Everything went tits up😂

He really did, I used to love him, but he's turned so whiney in the last couple seasons
Nah, Albon's car was fine on a track where you can overtake, Singapore with car issues makes sense..

Latifi is getting a 5 place grid penalty in Japan, which means that instead of starting 20th, he'll be starting 20th.
Best comment of the day! 🤣
I think he deserves a back-of-the-grid penalty, honesty
@@vincentleedy2933 Should start 25th in the 20 car race just drop him back those spare grid places. 😂
I would put him on the Casio chicane.

2 questions. Is Latiffi legally blind? and how did Russel not get punished for ramming into the side of Schumachers car?
Latifi is Latifi and FIA is inconsistent as hell.
To be fair, Zhou was barely alongside him and this generation of F1 vehicles has poor rear view.
Because Latifi is latifi and Russel is British, so he gets a mulligan from the FIA.
Russel didnt get penalty cus he gave himself a puncture
@@leatherlove9146 by that logic Latifi shouldnt have gotten a penalty as he dnf'ed due to his collision.

as a checo fan i agree this is the best win of checo, he didn't made a single mistake while every world champion and undoubted talents did, a professor of street circuit
And he was the best driver on track today, the most important thing. People can't argue this time that someone else technically deserved the win more, like with Checo's other wins. He led start to finish the whole race, front row, and made no significant mistakes (only a couple of lock-ups). What's more deserving than that
Apart from overtaking the safety car.....
There is no way that winning from last place in a car that is nowhere near title contention is considered to be not as good as leading a race in a (probably) title winning car. Sakhir 2020 will forever be Checo's best performance.
2020 Sakhir GP
@paper plane not a single mistake that made him loose his position, the one you're talking about he made sure that won't effect his outcome...

@@peeturpain9379 Leclerc loses his head under pressure. Yesterday he was power sliding all over the place just trying to keep up with Perez.
The one thing that surprised me is how far the cars where from each other after the safety cars. We usually see them all bunched up but the distances where pretty big
It's a very slow and twisty track, so distances are longer (because slow cars mean longer time distances) *and* it was wet so drivers take an extra safe margin.

Funiest thing about the grand prix for me:
German casters: the Renault engines came a long way, they are quite quick and in comparison to the past quite reliable
*Renault engine does Renault engine things*
I can confirm the green flag marshal incident being delayed footage as I was watching onboards from George, Perez and Leclerc and there were no marshals and no Albon front wing still in sight at the time they passed turn 8 and the green flag came out
Matt, as someone who is American but lives near Canada, I see a lot of Canadian drivers on the roads. Let me tell you, it’s not just Latifi and stroll, it’s the majority of Canada who don’t use their mirrors. 😂

Nothing but facts sir!
I think the "no George no that was so not right" was probably in response to Mick and george colliding into turn 1 where they both suffered a puncture
Perez performed so well probably because rainy conditions require the car to be set up with a stable rear and the thrives with a car like that.
My thoughts exactly. And I don't see it as a mere coincidence that Max seemed relatively uncomfortable with the car.
perez car is to max's spec (cost cap)
@@Rasv- that's literally not what they're talking about. You can run the car loose or tight with a myriad of changes that don't require big changes to the cars design.
Perez likes a more stable rear so they made setup changes to do this. Thing is, you can't really do that in the dry because the cars act so differently and they require certain setup "baselines" to get the most from the cars aero and design package.
But in the rain that all changes.
Max’s race was ruined on Saturday when RB messed up in Q3 because he was well on his way to pole or front row for sure. In Monaco Checo ruined his last run in Q3 (and Carlos’ as well) when he was improving considerably. So to dismiss Max on streetcircuits is not realistic. When the car was more to Checo’s liking Max was still winning races!
@@Real28 when you have certain total drag co-efficient, it affects how much you can change the various airfoils and ground effect tweaking before slowing down too much. Matt: "Is this a banger, or is this horrendous just with crashes?"
Answer: Yes
"George consistently finishing within the top 5 in 2022"
Singapore: "nah, won't have it"
Starting from the pits he would need a lot of luck on his side to get a top 5.
@@soundscape26 well, luck is not his shortcoming this year
He came from the back at Sakhir 2020 but needed Russell's problems. In Singapore he totally deserved the win - the first one in his career where other people's problems weren't dependent on him winning.
Same with Monaco. He needed to RedFlag the quali to get pole. xD
A win will always be a win. No matter how lucky it is, the team and driver that manages to stand on the top step of the podium is usually the one that did the best job during the race. Take example of Monaco 2022, Leclerc was the fastest man on track that day but Ferrari choked during their pit call thus allowing Perez and Red Bull to perfectly execute an amazing strategy that got them the win.
And in Sakhir he had no seat for the next season. I’m sure that was the most special for him
@@Locormus2, except Checo wasn't on pole in Monaco either. That was Charles who was going to be on pole regardless. Checo won Monaco thanks to ignoring Red Bull and making a gutsy strategy call based on instinct (the same thing Sainz did to beat Leclerc that race). He 100% deserved Monaco.
@@flyingphoenix113 Nobody deserved monaco more than charles, that man was almost 1s faster than anyone else.

If Verstappen didn't start at 8 it probably wouldn't have nearly been this eventful. Top cars pushing their cars mid table race push everybody to fight back. The slippery track just added to the spiceness
This is why we need to ditch qualifying and have a sprint race with reverse championship starting order.
@@DanielGjorwell I hope this is a joke but I can’t tell

Why Latiffi didn't see Zhou in his mirror?

Congrats to Charles for totally dropping the ball at the end
The tyres went what more do u expect
He was pushing like hell in a car that's had higher tire deg all season. Tires didn't last as long as Checo, who deserves all the credit.
Why no one talks about the amazing race Vettel did, he went up really fast in the start of the race and kept behind a Mercedes and a Red Bull for almost 30 laps with that shitbox he is driving this year. He definitely is the Singapore Lion 🦁

Japanese GP in Fuji?

Alonso was the one who asked the teams about going slick. A couple of laps before his car dying :(
I even joked with a friend, because the drivers were like:
Sainz: we can go slicks
Max: we can't go slicks
Alonso: can we go on slicks?
It was very tricky indeed
Sainz is insane for thinking they could have gone slicks that early. I couldn't believe he said that.
@@BiggieTrismegistus maybe Sainz was playing mindgames with the other teams.
@@EmyrDerfel Even if he was doing that (and it's possible he was) it was still a really odd things to say at the time. That kind of mind game only works if other people are thinking about going to slicks. I seriously doubt anyone was, especially given how long it took for anyone to actually switch to dry tires.
@@tripsupstairs That could be. I also wondered if he wasn't actually referring to the condition of the tires he had on the car at the time of comment. I think he said "it's getting close to slicks now" and as those intermediate tires wear they basically turn into slicks.
That's kind of the problem with those little soundbites: we don't know the context they occurred in so we could be interpreting them all wrong.
First time watching the race in-person
It was mostly me yelling at Charles whenever he tried battling Checo 😅
5:04 I think Latifi would prefer a _don't_ crash course over a crash course
This was my first singapore gp and I absolutely loved it can't wait for Japan hope that's a good one aswell
Good one? First we had to wait one hour, then we have seen a boring race, on a track were you cannot pass normally. All the action came from a wet track, and some ‘safety’ car moments. This track should change there lay out, just like Monaco or get deleted.
@@Vonliten Dude's enjoying, leave him be

With the marshals and the front wing it actually felt like a replay looking at it live.
I was actually quite surprised when the commentators in the Austrian TV broadcast claimed that the scene was live.
And with the technical problems the broadcast seems to have on a regular basis and some of the decisions the make for what to show, my guess is that the FIAs comment is true.
It's if you look at Russel his onboard it was already gone before the vsc ended
The danish TV broadcast also thought for a moment that it was live, but one of them said that it might be a replay
Sadly Russel is no longer mr consistently…..
Because Latifi hold the title now, you can always count on a safety car from him 😂😂
For anyone wondering checo still won after 1 5 sec penelty and -2 points
the george no, george thing was because Russel made contact with Mick just as he got into the points, ruining both their races
George Russell is the kind of guy who blames others for his own mistakes.
@@davidbrown8517, to quote Montoya, "you have to be either blind or stupid." There is no room for debate. This was 100% on George. Look at the overhead and ariel footage if you have any doubts.

12:25 Latifi not only spiced up a bit of races but also literally changed the history of motorsport. We could have had a 8 time Wc for the first time. No wonder he's the 🐐🐐
This may well be the most chaotic and dramatic race I've ever seen! I was watching it with a pal and around lap 6 he was like "this is gonna be a snoozefest". Damn was he wrong this was amazing! As a Lewis fan I am a bit disappointed with the results but it was an enjoyable race. In my opinion Russel should have been retired after he pitted for mediums to save the engine. Grabbing 1 point of Red bull with the fastest lap wasn't worth it for me. Saving the engine seemed like the better strategy. Amazing video! GG
Why is everyone so confused about the fact that the sun is the thing that normally dries the track.... It's pretty straightforward...

The last 4 or 5 IBRs have been the most low energy reactions i have ever seen. And they seem to correlate with the dream of Ferrarri winning the championship dying. Matt we need the energy back into these!
this and jeddah 2021 are 2 of the most chaotic races i have ever seen. at one point i was like whats left to go wrong. anything that could have gone wrong had gone wrong
i won't have it. that was not Kevins fault. just because you are in a faster car doesn't mean drivers have to jump out your way, you can force overtakes and push people into the walls. max should honestly have gotten 5sec.
I agree that Magnussen should have fought because wet weather is the great performance equaliser but they both had an equally good go at putting each other in the walls on different corners so any talk of a penalty is sort of pointless. Magnussen does perhaps need to be a bit more thoughtful on the opening laps though, he does have a habit of turning a good start into a bad race by getting into it with someone he should probably only be half fighting (ie. a car he can't realistically hope to keep behind him for the whole race)
The green flag while the marshalls were shown on track was slightly terrifying, but I did notice a few other times during the race weekend where replays were shown without the Replay text showing. When Leclerc made a mistake and dropped back, they then showed him really close from a relay and I'm pretty sure it didn't say that it was.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the replay of Tsunoda burying his car into the barrier where you could see a marshall like 10 feet away eagerly start waving their green flag. Did that marshall not know what the flags mean or something? Even if they hadn't officially told them to put out the yellow yet, that definitely wasn't a "vigorously wave a green flag" moment.
The best way to describe it is 'a lot of chaos but no action'.
The best part was Max, Seb and Lewis all battling for 7th place towards the end.
Hamilton was like: "No way this guy is going to fly past me on softs while I'm on the harder compound.. Oh snap a corner!"
As a Max-fan, I think he got quite lucky with some of his 'overtakes'. Yuki and Gasly both didn't defend and he only got past Alonso when he dnf'd and Hamilton when he mistakenly tried to overtake Vettel via a wetpatch and overshot the corner..
That’s how overtakes work … the driver in front makes a mistake usually and you don’t 😅 max didn’t get lucky … he made a lot of mistakes but recovered well every single time
Best way to describe this race: F1 CZcamsr Championship 2015 - Monza: Aarava: "Ohhhh, there's many crashings!!!"
it was a interesting race
confusing for sure when you had a safety car or vsc ending only to have another one start right away 😂
i love how the non finishers were never displayed lmao
I won't be surprised if, in like ten years, the FIA will only allow races in dry conditions. If they think the current tyres aren't safe enough to race in full wet conditions, they should order Pirelli to make tyres that are safe enough.

Magnussen getting black-orange flag for the 3rd time this season for the exact same issue:
That proves Magnussen hasn't grown up. Every time he has the opportunity to bring points to Haas, he somehow manages to ruin everything and as the race starts, he goes full Kvyat mode (torpedo).
Regardless of his speed, Magnussen is the opposite of a smart driver.
One thing that also came across my mind starting this video is we also have to consider that yes the cars have gotten safer, but also these cars have particularly bad visibility
I think the problem isn't that the wet tyres weren't being used even though the track didn't dry, but the fact that the track was just very greasy, so it wouldn't have mattered.
Brazil 2016 was a lot wetter than Singapore this year, and we went racing anyway. And it worked out fine, sort of.
George's incident with Mick reminds me so much of a similar incident between Kvyat and Raikkonen in the same track on the same section in 2019...
For sportsmanship reasons, I choose to believe that Leclerc slowed near the end to create a 5+ second gap for Perez so that even if he got handed a 5s penalty, he could still win the GP (despite the radio message from Ferrari expecting 2 penalty counts). Dude deserved it for defending like a boss for the whole 2 hours.
Probably not, but a beautiful thought.
PSA: Checo got one 5 sec penalty, a repremant and two penalty points
Ok,Reuters
Honestly I think max is just having some fun out there now with almost certain of winning the title he just out there to have fun and be a bit crazy
I saw that the reason wet tyres aren't used is because of the spray they produce (which turns into mist) which prevents drivers from seeing anything. In 2007, wet tyres didn't produce as much spray (due to a different pattern). I don't know if it's true but it sounds like the most logical reason.
