Agreed...and while my dad goes on and on a out Bobby Orr and the greats of yesteryear, they weren't getting around the type of D that are in the league today. Not to draw parralels but people really need to stop saying " he's no 99 or 66" because he's 97. In today's game, that's the exact same pedigree.
43 years on this planet. Played travel hockey.until I was 17. Have been a massive Wings fan since I was able to talk. I had a Lemieux jersey when I was 10 that I wore everywhere. I drooled.over Gretzky's records and even memorized most of them. I was awe-inspired by Stevie Y, Federov, and fell in love with Pavel Datsyuk, who is my favorite player of all time... But I have never seen a better player than Conner McDavid. He is simply majestic. And he is only getting better. I feel honored that I get to watch this man play the game I love so much. He does it with grace and integrity as well, which just makes it even better.
It was so much fun watching Datsyuk. Is McDavid undoubtedly better at stick handling than him? I’m asking as someone who doesn’t watch a ton anymore, but remember watching Datayuk play keep away with people.
Anyone who hasn't played hockey will only appreciate this to a degree. The fact that he's able to subtly drop his left shoulder when he breaks through the D to fake the shot, committing Bob to that side, and then holds on to the puck long enough to force Bob to try a stick check BEFORE he passes to Perry...it's like watching toddlers try to catch a fly. There is no goalie now, in the past, or ever in the future that could make this save.
?? Bruh Hockey is terrible.. Did u see the ratings for the Stanley Cup? Literally no one is watching. Hockey died in the early 2000s just like Baseball, and Basketball.
@Litcross-pl1eb not really.. Kid just doesn't know any better. People like us actually got to witness real Hockey in the 80s, 90s and even early 2000s.
If that were any other player, that’s got to be a dump and chase play. No chance of splitting the defense. Except if your name is Connor McDavid, then you do that right there
@@qwynnblackburde3509 MacKinnon is a bit different though, MacKinnon will break through defense with speed and power but McDavid is slicing through it. MaKinnon will put you in awe but McDavid will make you wonder about what you have just witnessed.
I'm an old guy, 1st thing that popped in my head was Mario vs Minnesota...McDavid is breaking SCF records held by Wayne and Mario..never thought id see the day..McDavid's a beaut!!!
@billverge7882 The goal Mario scored when he split the NorthStars’ defense was pure talent & skill. I will never forget that goal. The other was Jagr deking the Blackhawks’ defense and then saucering a backhander to score. Incredible. I loved to watch that Penguins 🐧 team.
With that precision control over puck, stick and opposition, he could clearly have made that goal. What a gentleman to pass and share the moment. This is a true 200 ft player.
Man, I watched this after oilers lost game 7. I cried so hard, love you McDavid, you'll win one day. You're a hero, and hero fights back and come back even stronger.
I'm a 54 year old man from the UK and as such am not steeped in the history of the NHL. Watching this clip I notice how similar McDavid's puck handling is to Diego Maradona's footwork. Maradona was so in tune with the ball, how the ball moved when he touched it, how the ball's movement was affected by the condition of the pitch. Likewise he had a much heightened sense of how the human body moves and reacts to movement. This enabled him to use the merest touch of the ball in one direction or another in order to evade a defenders challenge before the defender was even able to attempt the tackle. You can't teach these attributes. You just have to let them be.
You really don’t appreciate how good these guys are until you watch it in slow motion. Sticks and legs and blades everywhere and somehow the dude threads the needle and one-hands it for the assist. Amazing.
I was born in Florida, lived in Texas and Illinois, and now in Oklahoma. I'm so torn about Florida v. Edmonton. Then I thought about Florida holding its own right now with the world. Canada has had a very difficult time lately, especially since the trucker protest. I pray that the best team wins, but secretly root for the Oilers, because it has been very difficult for Canada. I pray this gives them some hope, my neighbors to the north.
My son (10) kept watching this, over & over & over. He told me he wants to have this much belief in himself because then he'll be able to do things like this, then he'll be able to be a great teammate.
THIS is the McDavid we need to see for 60 minutes in game 7. Bring the cup back home to Canada boyz... I was living in Edmonton during the dynasty... We need you to be our heros again... one ... more... time.
At least once every 2-3 games Conner has a highlight reel play. The man is no doubt the best player to lace them up this decade. Would love to see him hoist the cup the next 2 years then it will be the habs turn. Heartbreaking loss last night while the whole country was rooting for the oilers magic come back.
The fact they came back from a 3-0 is impressive. I wanted Florida to win, but man does it suck for Connor because he deserved that win more than any. Dude has committed his whole life to the game more than any other player I know about. What happens to the team now? If they can maintain they better clinch it next year. Honestly they should've had it for the last couple years.
Don't forget he did this 1:50 into his shift
pretty sure it was 2:28 no? still ridiculous either way though
@worldwidegaming1092 there was a TV timeout in between parts of the shift. He was on the ice without a break for the last 1:50
1:56?Affirming again how seconds are so important in live sports. To players and fans alike
Connor mcdavid in his mind: "damn, this mouthgaurd be hitting different today."
Yeah he was kind of slow and out of breath on that shift.

To be fair it was Mikkola and Kulikov he undressed for the Panthers. Not exactly all star caliber defenseman… still an all world play

Goosebumps watching this

No words could explain what he was doing with his skates and his stick, simply genius!!! Greatest respect!!!

Right up there with Bobby Orr but not quite proven himself yet. Here's hoping for a long career.

Neat you thought of Mario’s goal. I did too, it had the same ‘one against the world’ aspect to it
The subtle crossovers and fakes that are just THERE, and so many that I didn't notice, McDavid is goated
I don't like the oilers but I'm starting to hope they win because this man really deserves it
I agree Oilers should win. Go Oilers Go
Same. They’re not my team, but they’ve earned it and so have their fans. Would be great if they could bring it back to Canada.
And to add to his talent is the fact that he is humble.

What makes McDavid different is his ability to solve problems that other players think are impossible. Then of course he has the skill to pull it off.

Avoiding the stick check from behind when McDavid was ahead of both Panthers is nuts! Crazy fast processor
This music makes this play even more beautiful
absolutely the hardest and most skilled sport in the world. nothing comes even remotely close.
As hard as they fought throughout the series, they won in my eyes!

Wow, just wow.
Thank you, Connor

being up 3-1, almost 2min into your shift, EVERYONE in the league but McDavid would dump this & get replaced w/ fresh set of legs, but no...
It's incredible to watch . It's 3 opposition sticks all inches away.
