  • @jonweinraub
    @jonweinraub Před 2 lety +5

    Why does the diffusion weighted EPI sound so different acoustically than the others? From inside the bore I’ve noticed a loud shaking-like sound like the table itself is shaking. It’s one of my favourite sequences to experience. Though towards the end of the study there was a sequence that seemed to draw a lot of the AC air in like a fan was blasting me. Other sequences didn’t. That was neat too. I’d be curious as to why. The technologist didn’t seem to know when I asked.

    • @MRIPETCTSupportEngineer
      @MRIPETCTSupportEngineer  Před 2 lety +4

      That's a great question! Diffusion weighted EPI sequences are specialized scan sequences that use the gradient coil to provide a scan echo, as opposed to using the RF amp/RF Coil assembly that we normally hear. This gradient-intensive scan causes the bore of the magnet, specifically the gradient coil, to vibrate during the scan sequence. You're right, the DWI EPI scan sequence produces a unique sound unlike any other scan sequence. It's definitely one of my favorite too. I don't know what model MRI you were in, but typically the bore cooling fan functions in sync with the patient comfort temperature sensor that sits just under the entrance of the MRI bore. This sensor automatically turns on fan assemblies when temperatures or patient SAR rises. Thank you for the question!

      @jonweinraub described . the whole macine vibrating in sync with the pulses . i thought that (as per the other sounds) what was making the macine go shaky saky were the (i suppose) kA flowing through the coils . But can you describe the diference from other scans a bit better ? Isnt that always the gradient coils deliver the RF needed to displays molecules and the headcoil to read the decay ?
      FYI i have got scans in seimens skyra and GE & philips . the GEs where always the loudest (thus i prefer them 😝)

    Hey there, so during the test, I noticed a rhythmical click click sound. And during that, it kind of sounded like one of those oxygen pumps. And it happens when the test is going or not going. Like it was a repeated rhythm that would happen while the machine is running. I've had an MRI before, but I'm curious what that means. I find the sound of MRI scanners very interesting, but yeah, what does that repeated rhythmical tapping / ticking / pumping noise you hear mean?

I've had so many. I know it sounds weird, but when I'm in CT, and they inject the Iodinated contrast, I LOVE that feeling. At least I love the warm sensation. I can literally taste the CT contrast agent. It's not unpleasant, but it reminds of the way the ink in a ballpoint pen smells. Not that I go around sniffing ballpoint pens, but if you have ever had to handwrite like a page it has that smell. Tasting anything from the INSIDE of your tongue is weird, I can even taste saline when I had my PICC line flushed, tastes like metal. Could have been residual vancomycin or cefazolin left in the line actually.
