I’m a left hemiplegic and I fret with my affected hand and I’ve been playing for almost 4 years now and my finger dexterity (which was awful like I couldn’t independently move my fingers whilst fretting it was so frustrating) and now I play barre chords well so anything is possible :) although playing lead guitar will always be more of a struggle for us, don’t give up!
Brilliant! As both a guitar player and dad of a kid with hemiplegia, let me say you are doing a fantastic job at playing guitar AND inspiring people to overcome their physical limitations. Thank you so much for making this video!
I have left side hemiplegia to all the people struggling with cp just know this is an ability not a disability it gives us the ability to get to are goals and push on when times are hard if you are getting bullied in shool or society just know that you should only care what you think about you ignore the bullies and know your a super hero
You’re amazing! My son is 2 and he also has hemiplegia on his right side. I wasn’t sure if I could teach him to play the guitar and now I know I can! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! I've been teaching myself ukulele for around 3 years. I got a progressive neuropathy about 2 years ago & sometimes get discouraged. You gave me some motivation & inspiration back. :D
Thank you so much for commenting, it's just about adapting your expectations so that they are inline with your limitations. Keep trying and you will be surprised what you can achieve. Thanks for the support 💙
It definitely is possible, you just have to know what you want out of it. I wholeheartedly believe that most people with hemiplegia could get at least somewhere with the guitar, with enough practice. Best of luck!
You gave me the courage to try, even if I'm dwarfed by my guitar, I'm afraid to hold it (I just brought it, you know?) I'm tiny less than 5 feet tall (1.48 m). Do you have any advice on how to adopt a good posture? My CP affects my right side so I have my left (dominant) hand on the frets
HI buddy ,sorry for the late reply. The only thing I can really say is just to practice. It helps me to mute my guitar by placing my hand over the strings to practice strumming because then I am not distracted by the sound or chords. Also try and just focus on one little aspect of strumming at a time. for example down/up strokes. Hope this helps. if not you can contact on: abilitystreetcontact@gmail.com if you want to chat more about it! Thanks and have a great day.
I have right sided hemi, and Ive been (trying) to play for over half my life. Its so inspiring to see other disabled people playing guitar. thank you!
Where has this been all my life @Ability Street? Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
