    I saw Superman in the theatre when I was 4 and believe me no movie today could make you feel the way it did me, you felt like you were flying along with Superman and the music was unreal , movies today just don't have it, those green screens don't deliver like real locations and model sets did back in the day.

    Unpopular opinion.... I actually think this version is better than Superman The Movie. I ADORE John Williams beautiful orchestration, it’s a masterpiece.... but this one is just plain more fun to listen to in my humble opinion. The drums, the quicker tempo..... this is the one I listen to when walking around NYC & past the World News Building!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ken did a truly amazingly immense job on both this movie & Superman 3!! This takes me way back to around ‘85 when I was about 6 years old and mum put this on the tv for me so she could load the twin tub with Terry nappies. That smell of washing powder and dirty laundry going on as I’m mesmerised by this incredible man who gives me new hope and imagination like I’ve never felt before. Not knowing how or why this music happening but it’s energising my excitement and inspiration to find a way to find this superman. I asked my mum where to find him and she tells me he’s not real, it’s all a trick etc, but i wasn’t having any of it. I will become superman. And so I donned the Y-fronts over my trousers and robbed a towel for my cape and desperately tried to figure out how to lift off and fly around the living room. I reckon that’s what triggered the beginning of those flying dreams when I sleep which are still happening these days and it’s all because of this music.
    Didn’t know back then there was a superman 1 and once I watched that, John Williams lifted me even further! The power of music.

    this was my first movie I saw in a theater and I remember it like it was yesterday , and im 41 years old...my mom was so concerned that I would ruin the movie for everyone else by acting up that she made me practice being quite at home while watching one of her soap operas....i believe her thinking was if I lost interest in the movie I would start to talk and misbehave so she knew I hated the soap opera that she used to watch in the afternoon, and was convinced that if I could sit thru that then superman 2 would be cake.

    The first 55 seconds was so amazing. It's like it wasn't about the fictional character Superman, but about me, or anyone who has faced persistent obstacles & the potential to emerge and finally show the world their inner Superman or potential for greatness.
    2:10 is where the heavy lifting comes in to become that super man/woman.

      @@ashleyhyne7027 When I commented, I was facing some seemingly insurmountable obstacles. A living nightmare. I remember listening to this often for inspiration, while persevering through it all. I, somehow, managed to get through it, came out better on the other side than if i had not struggled so much at all. I now realize it was that character-defining struggle that has made me Superman. A man of steel resolve. World looks different now, cause I soar every day. 🙂

    I liked this version of the opening credits the best over Williams' version. It sounds more dynamic to me. The highs are higher, and it sounds more energetic. My favorite though is actually the closing credits of S-2.

    According to producer Ilya Salkind, John Williams was asked to score Superman II, but he decided to pass after screening the film. Another source claims that Williams turned it down because he felt he could not work with director Richard Lester. Whatever the case, I think Ken Thorne did a fine job.

    • @blackhawkjohn1
      @blackhawkjohn1 Před 2 lety +3

      Actually, it was because he was a very busy man. He was finishing up The Empire Strikes Back in late 1979, early 1980 and also beginning to write Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1980. After Raiders, he did E.T. He was heavily used by Lucas and Spielberg during this time and just didn't have the time for the sequel to Superman.

    This movie had an alternate ending where Lex Luthor broke out of prison again- but it had to be removed from the actual film because Gene Hackman decided not to be in "Superman III" after the Salkinds fired Richard Donner from being the director.

    I honestly believe Ken Thorne did the best job he could at adapting what John Williams had done previously with the first film. The original soundtrack release of Superman II sounded pretty bad, but the one that was remastered for the box set that came out awhile back sounded much better. And it was great to have some of the unreleased tracks, especially the piece that played when Clark ran down the alley to turn into Superman.

    GREAT adaption of John williams score of Superman by the great Ken thorne, mixing it brilliantly in his own style!! Recently listened to the complete version of this soundtrack which was distributed at the tailend of last year by LaLa land records. I've always had the soundtrack to the first Superman film but never had the soundtrack to the second film and thanks to LaLa land records i now own it. All the Superman films starring Christopher reeve had EXCELLENT scores that always reflected Christopher reeve's matchless portrayal of the man of steel!!!!
