  • Unbox with us Sailor Hocoro Dip Pens! Finally an option for dip pens that comes with a cap and allows you swap out the nib! You can even install a feed to make sure each dip lasts you a long time. In this video, I put the Hocoro Feed to the test to see how effective it is at supplying ink from just one dip. What's your favorite dip pen?

    I’m also blown away by how much writing one can do with the feed in and by how easily it cleans. Thank you for showing this, Daisy!

    Now that is shocking, getting so much writing out of one dip of a pen (with a snap-in feed), even while pausing for awhile!
    VERY clever design, making it easy to change nibs and also flip the pen point for easy carrying ...
    My old-fashioned cartoonist dip pens in 1973 could only write or draw for a minute or so.

    I picked these pens up as soon as I saw them on Yoseka, and they are as revolutionary for us ink lovers as you would suspect from Daisy's demonstration. Want to write long-form with an ink you aren't so keen on cleaning out of your pen? Toss in the shimmer and have at it. Nifty tip I picked up from "Inky Rocks" channel, have three glass jars of water to clean out your dip pen: first one gets the bulk of the ink out, second one gets the inky water from the first one out, third one truly washes out the pen with clean water. For those of us low-key leery about contaminating our ink bottles, you won't feel obligated to keep changing out the water you're using to clean the pen before you dip in your next ink!

    I have only recently discovered this pen and cannot wait to own one. I do a lot of journaling and love shimmer and sheening inks, but don’t want to put those inks into my pens. With this dip pen I will be able to write some with my inks without worrying that I am going to clog anything up. Thank you for the review!

    I wish I had found these before buying a more expensive brass nib. I’m still going to get them because they are perfect for what I want to use them for, but I could have saved myself some money. 😅 I love changing colors for journaling but not changing out full cartridges. I also love swatching and having fun with samples of shimmer inks (which I’m leery of putting in expensive pens or cleaning out clogged feeds). Perhaps this pen set will help me overcome my love/hate relationship with OS Nitrogen. 👌

    Even without the feed I find the medium totally usable and not frustrating!

    Thank you for demonstrating these pens! I recently ordered this dip pen in a fine nib, and didn't realize it had no feed. Not an issue since I plan on using it mostly for sampling inks, but the amount of ink it holds with a feed is impressive. Might have to pick up one on my next trip!

    Thank you so much for your thorough review!! Thanks to you I decided to get a grip with the fide-nib (incl. a feed) and a spare fine nib instead of just a grip with a fine nib and getting totally frustrated by the low ink capacity until I can get my hands on a separate feed here in Germany 😁 Now I can go through with my plan of using a different ink each day for journaling next month ❤

    In truth, one can use *any* fountain pen as a 'dip' pen. However, adding the feed to a Sailor Hocoro and desiring to write a brief note or letter - hint: #InCoWriMo - with a particular ink, without the need to fill a cartridge, converter, or barrel, the feed accessory is a definite plus!

  • @SunshineFL
    @SunshineFL Před rokem +1

    Nice dip pens ❤

  • @Inazarab
    @Inazarab Před rokem

    The Sailor Hocoro is incredibly well thought out and designed: the way the nib stores within the body for protection, the variety of compatible nib units, and the available feeds that snap on to allow extended writing. The engineers and designers clearly spent a lot of time designing and iterating. The only problem is the nibs just aren’t very good. The Pilot Iro-Utsushi is probably the most lazily designed dip pen on the market. It’s just a cheap stick of injected molded plastic with a Pilot nib glued to the end. But the nib on it is fantastic, and that’s what is so frustrating. I would love to use the Sailor Hocoro, but the nib is just awful compared to the Pilot. So now my thoughtfully engineered and designed Hocoro sits ill-used in my drawer, while the lazy and uncreative Pilot Iro-Utsushi sits out on my desk used frequently. It’s very annoying. I really hope Sailor improves their steel nibs to be as good as Pilot, because until then, I’m stuck using the terrible yet great Pilot Iro-Utsushi.

    Super interesting!! So, I'm now trying to decide between the Sailor Hocoro and the Fonte glass dip pen, which also has a cap for portability. Would be great to have some overall comparisons between these two, and other dip pens. Thanks as always!!

    • @Yoseka
      @Yoseka  Před rokem +3

      I think the Sailor Hocoro is more consistent while a glass pen can be a little less predictable. If you're planning on actually writing words, the Hocoro might be a bit better. For just doodles or swatching, the glass pen would work :)

      Pretty easy to snap back out the way they snap in pretty much, but you have to be careful when doing so. According to package instructions they are not meant to be removed once inserted. Of course, I've been doing it for weeks now haha!

    Question: With feed, are these usable with inks that are NOT fountain-pen safe?
    I have, I think, an F, and also bought the feed. The feed, according to the instructions, is *not* removable, or one risks damaging the nib. But I won’t want to pull the feed. I will, however, want both the fude, and one of the stubs…!Eventually.

    • @kokolexx
      @kokolexx Před rokem +1

      Wait, the feed is bought separately but it says not removable?🤔

    • @wanderpetal
      @wanderpetal Před rokem +1

      @@kokolexx Yes. The nib is optional, but once in, is not apparently intended to be taken out. It may be do-able but the instructions that came with the feed indicate that one risks damaging the nib. This according to the translation of the text in item 3 in the nib instructions. (CZcams does not apparently want me to share the screenshot.)

    • @Yoseka
      @Yoseka  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for sharing the translation Mary! I think you have to be careful to remove the feed but it is doable. Just like most manufacturers warn not to remove nibs from pens. The feed has a pretty simple resin construction and not a particularly durable design so I can definitely see Sailor wanting to warn against damaging the feed from removing it. That being said, I've totally been removing it over these past few weeks in between heavy periods of use.
      I think if you're going to be using a non-fountain pen friendly ink, you'll want to consider removing it but doing so carefully. Hope this helps!

    • @wanderpetal
      @wanderpetal Před rokem +1

      @@Yoseka This helps a lot. I think I probably just need another nib or two for my pen… eventually. I don’t trust my own self control enough to not damage the feed, plus the feed is itty bitty and I don’t want to lose it-less likely if I keep it installed. This said, I have no doubt that mileage will vary!
