Holy cow, how game graphics have improved in the past 30 years.
+Oligeni Official That's a random thing to say in a Sturmovik video.
+Oligeni Official Ha war thunder is nothing against IL-2
War Thunder is crap in Simulation mode, it's pretty much just a game for aim assisted arcade players now.
IL2-1946 is still the best IL2 ever, not for graphics, but for gameplay and realism, and community.
Nah Digital Combat SImulator is the best Simulator.
"War Thunder is best WW2 Game" that has to be THE most autistic thing I've ever read in my 21 years of living. IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is way better than that piece of shit.
"Open up with the flak on the enemy bombers!"
"But sir, our fighters are still engaging them!"
"We have reserves!"
As a matter of technical accuracy, fighters never attack while the bombers are in the flak cloud. They could be shot down by their side's own anti-aircraft fire.
That was my only negative observation. I was also quite surprised at how effective the flak was. It looked like over half the formation was taken out by it. When I've played Battle of Britain strategy games I would have loved that sort of effectiveness.
Agree.
Well yes think about it the flak is deadly and if you are trying to shoot off an enemy fighter you don't want your own protector to fly right as your own gunner is shooting
Cully Schmetterling yeah they would attack on they are out of the flak area
Remember,it’s a game
There's no way fighters would attack through a flack zone they would wait outside and attack as the bombers left
+Marty harding Funny how people forget they did have radio communications back then too! This was not wholly inaccurate though but still, good eye! You beat me to saying anything!
+Marty harding Chain home radar would have given the Britz about 20 notice to scramble Hurricanes and Spits to meet the bombers before they reached London
Make a mod and program the AI to not attack while friendly flak is firing if it bothers you so much. Btw, are you as a player just gonna wait and watch how the inaccurate flak tries to shoot them down or go there and try to shoot them down yourself? Because the flak will not stop firing.
Do you mean bandits?
Marty harding well ur stupid flak was for when the spits reported that they were out of ammo
lots of water melon seeds getting dangerously close to that bomber
Lol
The A A batteries sometimes used the "box barrage" all guns in an area firing together to create an area of sky full of shrapnel which the bombers must fly through. More effective than trying to pick off individual planes. My mother told me this, she was in the WRENS during the war working as a gun plotter.
notwocdivad i did not know that women where allowed to man the flak guns in England during WW2
Rex1987 Hi Rex, She did not man the actual guns, as i said she was a plotter, using sonic listening gear, they looked like big tea cups on a mounting, these relayed directional info to the guns via telephone from a short distance, 2 or 3 of these worked together to triangulate the "plot". Hope that explains, sorry should have put that in the original post. Dave
notwocdivad no need to say sorry i just find it interesting to read about :-)
Nicholas Shaddick Yep, mam used the big sound listening divices like 4 big teacups listening for motor noises, but she REALLY hated the doodlebugs, she liked to hear them cos if you could hear them they were still flying, it was the ominous splutter then silence before the big bang she hated. also til the day she passed away if she was caught unaware by an air raid siren on the tv she would give a noticable start, as she said once "Once you have been through it it never leaves you."
I wonder why weapon this day doesnt use flak guns anymore?
I don't know why I found this so mesmerisingly fascinating, but this was fantastic to watch. Really well framed - I loved it.
3:49 Pay attention to the rightmost He 111. Poor little bomber, that looks like it hurt :(
Aaawawawwwawwawa yeh ouch!!!!lol
Just a scrach he can recover
+Naten that'll buff out
+Naten At a young age, the calf is crippled and will likely die in the next 2 to 4 weeks.
Ethan Ton lol just like squire documentary
My dad was a radar operator for that flak, they almost never hit anything, though I do have a piece of a Do17 he helped shoot down in the Thames! AA doesn't aim AT planes, it just fills a "box" of airspace with shells, and the enemy planes have to fly through it...
skydreamer barnes Oh can you show a picture of it? :o
pongboy1100 Sadly no mechanism for it, on here! It's only a lump of engine casing, TBH, nothing really cool like the rudder with a big swastika on it or anything! I don't have a picture, actually, it's in storage somewhere in the loft, along with a chunk of Merlin engine from a spit he recovered from a wreck on the marshes nearby, at least THAT bit's nice and shiny ally, it's a bit of the supercharger casing, it DOES have "RR" (Rolls Royce) stamped on it though....I should add, he didn't shoot THAT one down, lol, he saw it in a scrap with several 109s, and he also said he saw the pilot bail out, as I wasn't sure about displaying a piece of what would technically have been a war-grave, otherwise...His battery shot down lots of Doodlebugs, too, later on, they were easy to radar-predict, as they flew straight and level on a fixed heading..
skydreamer barnes awesome! My grandpa used to work as a mechanic on a local airfield, When the Germans invaded the Netherlands and took the airfield he was ordered to learn how to repair Messerschmidt engines. I think he still got his uniform somewhere in the attik, but he rather not talk about it.
my Grandpa was in the Hungarian Air Force in WW2 .3.
+UnitTiger 75 Wow, he must have had a few tales to tell! Do you know what types he flew? They had a pretty broad range, especially fighters, everything from Fiat biplanes to the lethal FW 190! My dad was shipped off to burma, after the battle of Britain, the poor sod, he had a truly awful time, as a prisoner of the Japanese, he was so sick he couldn't come home 'till two years after the war...Something a lot of people don't know, many sick servicemen in the far east were not allowed home, there were worries of starting an epidemic, so he was sent off to a communicable diseases hospital in India, where an awful lot of them died, never getting to see home again, even a year or more after WWII ended. I enjoy my WWII gaming, but having read just about everything ever written by pilots, as well as most sailors, and infantrymen's accounts, I never forget how bloody tough it was for people then.
I have serious doubts as to the veracity of RAF fighters attacking Germans while well within the FLAK pattern.
that would be an act of desperation .
Burt Hulbert t
When the bombs were getting dropped it look like they were just thrown by people with their hands lol
True
It's the movement of the plane unbalances what would be an otherwise straight drop
The Heinkel 111 used an ESAC vertical bomb magazine where the bombs were stored nose-up. When released, a bomb dropped out tail first and then turned over into the traditional nose-down ballistic trajectory; and I guess that's what the game engine is trying to model. In this case it looks configured with single 250kg bombs, although an adaptor would allow 4x50kg in each tube.
Ya Yeet!
For some reason this is very soothing to me
amazing, like a piece of art! it captures the moment just right, i love the silence of it
It’s war
Strange tactics; I thought the fighters wouldn't be mixing in with the bombers as the bombers were flying through heavy flak. The fighters hit the bombers on the way in and on the way out; flak concentrates around the release point.
Nothing little about it!
Oxide :O
When comparing this raid to the American raids in 1944 and 45 this one is very little. ;)
Rainer Diabl *Allied raids ;)
Fireballben Yeah.
r/whooooooooosh
First time I saw this vid in 2011 in HD the graphics had me speechless
This video started the year I was born
funny that spitfires flies into the flack fragment
3:34
Never forget the sacrifice he made.
o7
3:34
Those poor young men on both sides. Spending their lives in terror.
THIS WAS OUTSTANDING! NEVER BEFORE HAVE I FELT WHAT IT WAS LIKE, EVEN WATCHING OLD GRAINY WAR FOOTAGE. BRAVO!
I found 2 bomb craters in my local woods last week. Just south of London but north of the M25. I bet this fucking bastard was the one who dropped them hehe.
fighter tactics were to strike heavily laden bombers before they dropped bombs. then they would attack again as bombers left the flak pattern.
The fighters was keeping distance while shooting at the bombers from the flak cloud.
Good video.
Nice job of showing how the flak burst out in all directions.
And no drama music covering up the real sound of war.
Heinkel He 111 was a good medium range bomber, but the italian SM.79 sparrowhawk (well known as "il gobbo maledetto" - damned hunchback) was the best medium-bomber and torpedo bomber from 1940 until 1942. Very versatile and manouvrable, even in dogfight.
3:38
Heinkel loses wing !!
Damn this comment so old that the time stamp don’t work, man you commented this when I was 5
timestamp doesn't work lol
@@philthymcdread1878 so you're 14 now?
I really liked the video, specifically the camera angles. You should be given a budget!
By the way, those spear-flak (removed now, according to video info) were a bug or a feature of the game?
Richardsen it was a feature but when it hit do17 or FW200 it got stuck in them and glitched it out
I watched this when I was kid... I used to be fascinated.
Fantastic video, so life-like.
Kudos to all warriors.
And well done to the people who developed the graphics, quite incredible attention to detail.
0:55 Must be uncomfortable to be that down gunner.
IKR he could of bashed his head on the top gun
For all the plebs saying it isn't realistic. It's a mission. AIs aren't always smart.
Interesting seeing fighters attach the bombers while the ground AA guns spreading Flak everywhere.
However, anaimation and sound are TOPS! Thanks for posting!
my great-uncle flew on the cargo planes for the RAF. He dropped supplies in during D-Day and was stationed in China, India and Burma. Even when he was flying in Europe (although i'm fairly sure he spent most of his time in North Africa, where he got malaria) he was never shot at. And he flew in proper war zones too, not like miles away from the fighting, we have all his passes and letters and his uniform Not the most exciting of war stories but pretty damn incredible
That's Berlin flak, not London Flak. In 1940, there were very few guns.
+Al Booker And highly inefective.
More like USN flak over Okinawa density.
Guy:Hey grandpa, I had fun on my Eurotrip. Grandpa: When I was your age I didn't go backpacking around Europe. I bombed the shit out of it.
This video I love it I watch it over and over thank you!
play "Mazzy Star - Fade into You" and watch
Да, старый добрый Ил 2 Штурмовик, Битва за Британию)
Attention to the Map!
Attention to the designated grid zone!
Bravo!
Excellent!
The British DREAMED of having that many flak guns!
All hail the Luftwaffe!
Nazar Derkach all hail the RAF
I bet the Brits dislike the video.
You lose your bet. I thought the vid was well put together.
of course we dislike it,but we won!
The Brits did get their revenge by doing the same plus more.
No, not really
It's typical USA Hollywood bollox. Shame the yanks had to sit on the fence for 3 years before deciding which side to back to make the maximum profit.
My dad was a pilot of B-17 with the 8th and told me the flack was the scariest because you couldn't fight them also told me the sound of flack ripping through the plane, sometimes the shrapnel would recherche through out the plan!
superbe réalisation ! très bien d'avoir rajouter les tirs et cette fumée noire !
I feel sorry for the nose gunner, just sitting there waiting to get filled with flak
great video. epic. i was both excited and afraid for most of it. that enemy plane shot down toward the end was heart breaking. a man lost his life in the most bizarre of circumstances. what a great game this is.
Actually I think he survived just a smoking engine he will be alright
Im from Serbia and one guy from my family saved more then 100 people!!! He was a pilot and he destroyed the enemy fighters without guns(He was flying near the ground)! Thats Awesome
the clouds from the flak shots looks like fireworks XD
People flying those bombers in online scenarios are total badasses with balls of titanium. Gotta give`em that. Alyways happy to escort you on the way in and out guys!
I hope COD is playable enough for everyone to enjoy in the near future. I was so dissapointed on release. Have to thank people like you who are contributing to improving the game in whatever way.
Really like seeing the bits of flak zipping around. Scary!
I like the sound effects. The crump and bang of the flak.
When your playing as a bomber in war thunder tip of advice:
Never go down to that cloud of hell
The HE111 was a good looking plane in it's way. Those Hurricane pilots were chancing it a bit, flying into their own wall of AA fire XD
The guy on the machine gun, had the best view ever :)
This is better than the CGI in Midway and Red Tails
This is great stuff. I had no idea these 'games' could be so realistic.
Not realism dude the fighters won't attack the bombers if the bombers are in the flak cloud UGHH YOU DUMPASS
I had never heard of this before. It is quite good. Fascinating, actually.
While I agree with many of the comments below as I thought it was odd that the fighters would be attacking in a flak field. Such cases did happen, but they were few. I did notice that the "Brits" were using a "Big Wing" formation. As I remember my history, the English did not get to use this formation often and only when the Germans started bombing London. As it took time to build these formations, I can't remember the English using it before the London Bombings started.
That rocked.
I showed it to my Dad and for a second or two he thought it was a trailor for a new movie.
You keep pushing.
Brings back not nice reminders when I was young
Phew! Glad we made it through! That'll give Winnie something to think about! Oh, no, my mistake. He was hiding at his Chartwell estate, out of harm's way, counting his money from the Focus (see David Irving's "Churchill's War").
It's like a movie, except spared all the pointless drama. It looks fantastic.
Always had this in my watch later list, added by accident but too lazy to remove and I don’t even know what it is, 11 years later and it’s time to check it out~
You lucky to get out of there alive, all that flak is crazy.
Loved the video! Nice clean graphics and great sound! Thanks!
Looked like a bird passed by the plane, but it was a AA shrapnel.Awesome.And strange...
Superb! I think it's about time we petitioned for a remake of "The Battle of Britain".
i remember the old game B-17 Flying Fotress... flying in high importance target was scary ass moment.. flak was allways so thick that you could almost walk on it.. :P
4:01 wing spinning over and over - and wow, I bet the Londoners hated those bomben. But the Heinkels suffered most definitely. Suprisingly more casualties than I expected to see
I love the He-111 design, dat cockpit.
The Growlanser did you know that the creators of Star Wars got inspired by the heinkel bomber cockpits that they used it for the Melenian falcon?
The TIEs cockpit also looks similar and the TIE engine roar sounds like the Stuka siren.
FLAMINGSKULL 299 I thought the cockpit design came from the B-29 for the millennium falcon, that's cool
This almost looks like a war thunder battle but it's not when I looked in the description
If I were a fighter pilot, I wouldn't attack a bomber stream flying through flak. That's like trying to hit someone with a sword, whilst you're holding the blade . . .
Wow.. Just flew straight and couldn't be shot
think about what hundreds of b52 bombers and hundreds of spit fires would have sounded like, the extremely loud rumble from that would have been heart pounding
Am I the only one who thinks that the flak going off bears a striking resemblance to popcorn popping?
Great video. I don't think that you would see Spits attacking in the middle of a flack barrage through...
Cybernaut is of course correct about the fighters not normally attacking while the flak was in action, although there were numerous exceptions by especially intrepid fighter pilots on both sides. I realize you addressed this, default. Just wanted to say I particularly like the way you adjusted the flak in a pretty realistic manner. First too low, then too high, then the gunners got the range. Pretty good video all in all.
First time I've viewed this CGI version and I'am really impressed, some small points , one being the lack of Swastika's now a banned symbol would have been historicly correct, and the crew at the beguinning , more movement of them would have made it look realistic, but apart from that a realy fantastic video well done !
The best so far video close to reality, on CZcams. If we excuse some mistakes like the one noted by " Marty harding" below, the rest is perfect. However one must have been a flak gunner to effectively comment on this video !
Main purpose of Flak wasn't to shoot as many planes down as possible, heavy guns were remarkable inefficient in shooting planes down (Took on average 500-1000 88mm flak shells to bring an American bomber down). Massed flak was just to scare the shit out of bomber cerws, throw them off aim and saturate the air with bursts so they retreated. Shooting down planes was the fighter force's task, flak was drive them back from targets.
I think you have done a very good job.. Great watch. 🤓 Thanks.
woaw this looks awesome game. So realistic. I have to check more videos of this game
I enjoy this video, surprised that only a few of those Heinkels took mortal damage
I was there and did not remember us having so many A A guns!!
This is a really good video.
However the only thing that was off from my perspective was that the Hurricanes were fighting the He-111 while being shot by Flak. This is the only part that was inaccurate because Britain never flew fighters into a flak field because they were afraid that they would shoot their own ally down
this a game fyi lel
+Killzone star It's a simulator, don't bring that crap.
I don't know why, but watching this bombing sequence makes me think about Johann Strauss' "Blue Danube" Waltz playing in the background on an old Hand-cranked Phonograph hehe
being in a bomber crew was one of the most dangerous and scary jobs in WWII along with U-Boat crews. The men who crewed these machines were true men of steel who's existence relied more on luck than skill.
There is no way the fighters would attack in that dense flak...
The HE-111 always had trouble synchronizing its engines, so it made a 'Humm - Humm - Humm'' noise that everybody always recognized. Thank you for fixing a 70 year mechanical problem, but it could sound more accurate. Oh well. It's video magic, not reality.
It's probably Cliffs of Dover. Excellent video. Thanks sooo much!!!
You can see at 3:52 the plane on the far right had its tail shot right off. I wonder what it would be like to be in that plane tumbling to the ground.
this thing has some serious sweet graphics... I bet no rig within 100 miles of me could play this
I was in a Taxi in Portishead 2 years ago and the driver said his mother and future father were machine gunned in the town during the day by a fighter bomber back in 1940. I never thought this happened but apparently it did.
Wow! I love this! What a great looking sim, especially with all the black popcorn going off!
One day when I get a new PC, I will have to do some of this myself! Great stuff!
do you have a gaming pc now?
As mentioned already the fighters would not have attacked the bombers while passing through ground flack and yes they generally attacked as the bombers turned back, but not always. Most fighter attacks on bombers would have been made by Hurricanes with the Spits concentrating on enemy fighters. Not that the older Hurricane couldn't fight enemy fighters. Although slower they were more manoeuvrable and could turn inside the faster fighters as demonstrated during air displays of former years. Great graphics.
Maneuverability will not help you so much with an enemy with superior climb rate and speed that will just bnz the shit out of you and the Hurricanes lose their maneuverability advantage the higher they were.
@defaultalreadytaken You are a legend at making cliffs of dover vids with no music , make more if you can
beautifully made video, inspired me to dust off my copy of IL and play it after a long time.
thankyou
Yeesh that's alot of flak they're throwing up. Surprised that the CAP would come anywhere near you into that kind of shit storm. Great video mate.
you must have one helluva machine to run and record
