There’s a clause in their “regulations” that they can deem a company unfit for loans even if the company fulfill all ESG requirements, it’s up to them to decide this. Corruption at its worst. Jobs provide no good in and of themselves, we only broadly consider jobs “good” because historically they have provided the middle class enough disposable income to live comfortably and spend their excess income further supporting the economy. When they fail to provide any of that, they no longer provide a social good - it’s why nobody claims plantation owners did their slaves a tremendous service by creating so many jobs for them. Creating jobs that underpay their workforce so significantly that many need to work 2 or 3 jobs or apply for government assistance just to survive, with no income left over to contribute to the economy, work them to the bone to where productivity increases year after year while real pay actually decreases, don’t provide any sort of paid time off, vacation benefits, healthcare, retirement/pensions, profit sharing, etc, all while executive compensation and shareholder profits are smashing all time records is a net negative for the real economy beyond just the illusion of the market and has objectively harmed the economy and country potentially beyond repair. Yet companies continue to measure success only by short-term profits at the expense of dooming not just themselves but a larger and larger swath of the country to destruction every year. @@Dan16673 actually in 1964 the average American worker, adjusted for inflation, made the equivalent of $20.27 an hour. Today we’re around $23. That’s as stagnant as it gets, and that’s without even factoring in inflation and the decline in purchasing power. CEOs meanwhile made the equivalent of around $800,000 in 1964, rising to over $15,000,000 - a nearly *one-thousand-nine-hundred percent* increase. That’s absurd. And of course some of the increased productivity is due to technology, your point is? The average worker is still producing way more goods for their company to profit from per hour than in the past. You’re saying they should get paid less per widget because the technology allows them to do more in an hour than they could in the past? There still doing *more work* per hour, which allows the company to make more profit in less time. After the company recouped it’s costs for the technology, the workers should be compensated fairly for their increased output.

Just to point out... minimum wage (minimum wage act 1948) was not meant to be a full time pay where you can raise a family on. It was designed so that employers had to abide by a standard for base level workers and for employees to have recourse through the legal system should the employer not pay them. The average Joe and Jane seem to think you can just sky rocket the min wage without driving up the price of everything else which is of course false. You end up in the same boat except everything is more expensive so you're right back where you started.

ESG is communism rebranded... this happened in stages from the "Shareholder" to the "Stakeholders" to ESG. Ultimately companies should be responsible to their Shareholders and not used as a proxy to spread company profits beyond company concerns and investors. A company is NOT responsible for social programs beyond the companies remit; their responsibility is to be ethical (which doesn't include an enlargement of social responsibilities beyond company concerns e.g., "Black Lives Matter", "Transgender", or even necessarily many "Social Justice" programs, follow the law, do business as best as you can and return that value to the company itself (to grow and develop with the times) and shareholders.
