My pleasure, happy to help. Always remember, if you’re not happy with the eyes you can start over again. I once carved the eyes three times on one face and in the end it turned out great!
Thanks for your question. You're correct, if I was carving a face I wouldn't put the eye on the corner (unless it was a Cyclops character). I used the rounded corner for demonstration purposes because it gives a rounded foundation to carve an eye on.
Hey Jack went got small pack gouging tools, one knife, heavy spine, done/ learn with that, leather knife/ gouges! Didn't find glove, just nicked finger. Lol hobby lobby opens tomorrow
My pleasure! There are many options and methods for carving eyes. In the next video we’ll demonstrate cartoon style eyes which are simple and easy to learn. Hang in there my friend. 🙂
Hi Michael, I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the video! I used several different sizes and brands of gouges in this video. The palm gouges are “Swiss Made” brand by the pfeil company. The small micro-gouges are dockyard brand and Flexcut brand. All of these brands are readily available online from various sellers. I recommend www.chippingaway.com/ because they have reasonable prices and good customer service.
Great Video! Can you tell me which one of these eye cuts would work best on the small characters , carved out of a 1 x 1 block? Thank You , I am a beginner and eyes are really giving me problems,
Hi Jeff, I appreciate your comment. I do take my time when I’m enjoying the carving experience. Fortunately, CZcams has a handy setting that enables viewers to speed up any video. Hope this helps.

I don't understand carving an eye on the corner of a block. Where would the nose go?

Hi Robert, You can probably find a fish filleting glove at your nearest Walmart. Hope your finger heals up soon.
Thanks for the video. I guess I have to destroy a lot of wood until I get the eyes right. :-)

Thanks Ray! For small figures I think the Kevin Coates (inside out) example would be best. Kevin has carved some small figures using this approach.
@@whittling Thank You!!
My pleasure! Happy carving Ray!
