Omg it started rather well. The first sentence was NOT, "In the vast expanse of space, the Galactic Council....." It's been so many of em that do that. It's the equivalent of, "It was a dark and stormy night."
Yeah, a lot of these sci fi short stories give the protagonist some random rank. I previously listened to one where a captain of a ship was giving orders to a commander who was his XO. Oh and the captain would leave his ship to lead an elite squad on an infiltration mission.
@@BartimaeusAurelius Well technically a Navy Captain (O-6) is a higher rank than a Commander (O-5 Navy only rank) while a Commander is a higher rank than an Army/Marine Corps/Air Force Captain (O-3)
First we decide to send help and get involved in galactic affairs again then we are debating whether to get involved until we decide to help, Why 2 versions of the same decision making? Then the human fleet arrives and the invader fleet does nothing because they were unaware of Earth's intervention? Did the invader fleet just drop troops and then fly away? Totally illogical.

Advanced technology but couldn't invest in a defense system??
Why is Hawkings only a major you usually don't send someone at that rank out in charge of a major invasion
Yeah you'd get a 5 star General to be in charge of a PLANETARY INVASION.
@@PhthaloGreenskin Normally you would have an Admiral in charge of the fleet ships and a General in charge of the ground invasion.

@PhthaloGreenskin At that point we'd probably have created a 6 star rank or something completely different lol

I guess the Invaders were nameless
They were invaded by "Those that have no name"
