Inspired by some of the recent messages I have been receiving on Instagram, this week's video is my complete guide on how to start writing a competitive Classics personal statement when you are applying for top Russel group universities like Oxbridge! I do my best to cover everything from structure to general top tips, but if you have anymore specific questions, feel free to leave a comment down below or message me on Instagram (links to my socials are a bit further down). ALSO a quick note-whilst I was filming my camera kept going in and out of focus but I didn't realise this until after I had finished filming, and by the time I was editing I really didn't want to scrap everything and start over, so apologies about that-try to ignore it if you can!

Hello everyone! My name is Sabrina, and I am going into my second year reading Classics at the University of Oxford.
Following in the giant footsteps of Ibz Mo, Viola Helen, Vee, Eve Bennett and Sam from the legendary Oxcentric channel, I aim to help demystify Oxbridge and its application process, broaden access for Classics/Ancient History/related subjects and have fun documenting my university experience!
Feel free to subscribe and join me on my university journey. :)

Habete bonum diem!
Thanks so much for this Sabrina, I've been trying to work on a personal statement for classics for ages!
No worries! Glad to be of help! :)
thank you so much for this! i'm an american student and as such i don't have a whole lot of resources at my school for this type of thing, nor many teachers with much, if any, experience. this video has been an immense help for getting my thoughts together re: The Personal Statement (although i'm applying fall of next year, lol) so it's much appreciated. have a lovely day xx
Thank you so much I’m so glad you found it useful!!
how's it going?
@@williams.5952 i got into Glasgow, Edinburgh, Durham & St Andrews!! unfortunately im unable to go because of costs but i’m super glad i was able to get in :) def am keeping it in mind for my MA
Thanks for this! What A-Levels did you do btw? What did you mention when discussing your future + future desires/goals with Classics?
Hey I'm glad you found this video useful! I did Latin, History and Classical Civilisation A-level, and to answer your other question...to be honest I was quite vague: I think I wrote something about looking forward to the opportunity of learning about lots of new things and being excited to see where Classics will take itself in the future!
I’m doing work experience at a local Roman Villa in their museum - would this be classed as extra or super curricular?
Do you think I have to include extra-curriculum in my ps? Does it work to ask my teachers to mention it in the references only?
I think it still might be worth mentioning 1 or 2 extra-curricular things in the actual personal statement itself, just to give the impression straight away of you having balance in your life (but that's just me personally!); but I'm sure if you only wanted to include them in the teacher reference you could do that too!
hi! this is such a useful video, thank you. can i ask what you wrote about mary beard's confrotning the classics? i've just finished it and loved it, but am finding it really difficult to analyse since it's essentially a big collection of book reviews.
