  • The New York Knicks have been the best team in the NBA since trading for OG Anunoby, as Jalen Brunson continues to play at a superstar level, and role players like Donte Divincenzo and Isaiah Hartenstein have stepped up. Is this a team that can win the title, or will Julius Randle hold them back?

I like your break down of the Knicks. The only thing I will push back with Randle is during the Atlanta series he was the primary playmaker (which is obviously not his strength). His PG was Elfrid Payton and teams would drop coverage to double Randle because Elfrid wasn't a threat on offense at all. Last year, he was playing through an injured ankle which he suffered against Miami a few games before season's end

This many people seem to forget Randle was injured last year. If Randle is healthy this postseason knicks are going to be extra scary.

And tbh he didn't even play that bad last year his 3s just weren't going in. Other than that he played pretty decent

Finally! Someone who understands Randle. For so long people tried to treat him like a draymond esque player cause he plays bigger than he is and thinks he could be a point forward. He can run some plays, but the reality is is his playmaking iq is not as high and he has situational awareness gaps. Until Brunson, he hasn't had a true pg next to him to help playmake and his 2nd and 3rd offensive options were never consistent. So, he needed to cover a lot of ground and lost track of his man.
I always said, get the ball into a pgs hands and Randle will flourish. And there it is - 3 time all star.
OG is amazing and divencenzo has seriously improved defense.
If we can improve our perimeter rotations, we could make it deep
Also, I think signing Taj has been very underrated. Since we got Taj, hartenstein has skyrocketed in playmaking and floor awareness.
I hope Mitchell is watching so we could have a twin towers in the paint, and Brunson, OG, Randle and donte as a six man? And then we have Mcbride, precious, grins and sims? If healthy, this is a deep team

The disrespect for Randle, a three-time All-Star selected and two times all NBA in 5 years with the Knicks, is insane.
Let's ignore that Randle played injured last year's playoff and that that injury made him start slow even this season, and let's ignore that in the playoff series with Atlanta, he was played as primary PG with 2 / 3 defender on him all the time while playing with the starter of the "calibre" of Elfrid Payton and Bullock.
Whether you like the guy or not, he's the one that brought the Knicks back to relevancy, and now, as a number 2 with Brunson as number 1, he can finally do some real damage; he even changed his way of playing the game this season, but even that is not enough, right?
I hope he can fully recover from his injury and put everyone on notice for this year's playoff.

@@AmandaabnamAhe’s one of the best passers on this team, he gets doubled so much cause almost everyone one on one in the post is food for him, the doubles can get annoying which led to the turnovers but he has transformed his game every year on the Knicks, he went from operating mostly within 15 ft to a permitter threat while being a force on the inside and taking less and less midranges(which is the least valuable shot in basketball), he is a extremely hard worker and he will only get better till he reaches his peak

Randle has some good games but he is the reason the knicks will not go far in the playoffs. Have you seen his stats in the playoffs? Doesn’t even shoot 40%. He’s inefficient and turns the ball over way too much. Y’all need to trade him before his value plummets after this year’s playoffs for real. Build around Brunson and anunoby, anyone not willing to accept Randle holds this team back when it matters most is coping

@@Teeminator952 you’re just a randle hater, and obviously didn’t read what I said… he’s been working on his game every year, he would’ve had a good playoff campaign this past year if he wasn’t playing on a hurt ankle, which he had surgery on in the offseason, and didn’t get to practice like he usually does, resulting in a slow start to the season but now up until the shoulder dislocation he’s been playing amazing, and as long as he’s healthy he will perform, you’re blinded by the randle hate all over the media.

What is being overlooked is the Villanova/Big 5/NCAA championship pedigree of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo: that toughness derived from that Philly gauntlet led to 2 championships in three years, and joining the three ballers back together has been the foundation that OG glued together

Wait....I'm a die-hard Knicks fan, and I watched the Knicks/Miami playoff series last year (2023), so I have to correct you on something you said at the 7:05 minute mark. While everything you said is mostly true, the fact is, that Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett were the only ones who played very well in that Miami series. Yes, RJ had ONE bad game in that series (Game 6), but other than that he was great in the 1st round against Cleveland (except for game 1), and was also very good in the 2nd round against Miami (except for game 6). However, it was Julius Randle who didn't have a good playoff series at all in 2023 due to a lingering injury he was nursing, after returning a bit too early and not having fully recovered. Julius Randle had a poor showing both in the First round against Cleveland AND in the 2nd round against Miami. Just correcting the record.

What's quite surprising is that there's an opportunity for both New York and Cleveland to surpass Boston and Milwaukee, claiming the top two seeds in the NBA. I observed both Boston and Milwaukee facing defeats, and it's evident that both teams are missing crucial elements. Notably, Boston suffered a loss to LA, even though AD and LeBron were absent.

Randle has been a night and day difference this season relative to last. Not only does he have Brunson, but he’s flanked by reliable wings who can shoot. In other words, he’s got people he can trust. Yes Playoffs are a different beast and empirically he’s shown to collapse. But this is the most talented Knicks team with pieces that just work in decades. Everyone has been playing within themselves. It’ll be different come April.
