    Wd40 in the vacuum port. The diaphragm gets stuck in the open position causing rough idle. No need to remove the egr. Do it when hot. Instant fix.

    never spray carb cleaner into the vacuum port of an egr valve. it can damage the rubber diaphragm inside and make your diagnosis really hard. if the vacuum port is clogged then replace the valve and identify why your building up carbon in an egr vacuum port(unusual)

      Thanks for your comment +John Smith
      I have to disagree with you, carb cleaner shouldn't affect the diaphragm in the EGR as it's designed to be used in cleaning carb diaphragms which are very similar in makeup and design.
      I've not had any trouble with this method as well.

    • @harrisonthompson
      @harrisonthompson Před 7 lety +1

      Micah G Robinson im not saying your valve is guaranteed to fail immediately if you ever do that. the rubber is made to resist solvents most of the time. this is simply a do it properly critique.
      but older egr valves that have dry and brittle diaphragms can be damaged by powerful solvents like carb cleaner. electronics cleaner would be better for this. carb cleaner will heavily increase the rate of off gassing of the rubber, drying the diaphragm even further. even if youve never experienced a diaphragm failure from carb cleaner, i have once. its also bad for the longevity of newer valves, even if it doesn't fail at that moment. just because egr's are built on carbs too doesn't make it ok for carb cleaner to go into the vacuum port. you shouldn't be getting much of any carbon build up in the vacuum port because its not open to gasoline vapor from the intake to reach it once turned off or or car idling. and whenever it does open to the intake, its under vacuum.
      see what i mean? thats why you don't see much build up unless that vacuum switching valves or whatever are slightly stuck open leaving it open to intake fumes after the engine is off. makes engines run like shit, or not run too, obviously.

    I have an Oz Rally edition Lancer and just tried this. Initially the check engine light went off and it seemed to be fine but after driving it for maybe a mile I lost a ton of power and it started stalling out. I'm not sure whats up but I'm thinking I might have a clogged catalytic converter now from some carbon that blew back through the exhaust.

    • @andrewdalvet6871
      @andrewdalvet6871 Před 2 lety

      Carbon likely just resettled into the EGR valve after it dried and now has the EGR stuck open causing it to dump in too much exhaust gases into the cylinder so now there isn't enough actual air for proper combustion

    I found and removed the egr valve but there was no air hose attached at all. I just bought this car 2 days ago. I can't seem to find any loose hoses anywhere. Where should the hose be coming from?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  Před 8 lety

      +Stephanie West Sorry for the late reply.
      The vacuum hose connects from the EGR to a metal hose that runs on the front side of the intake manifold parallel to the motor. There are 3 metal hoses that run this path. Hopefully only one is open and easy to find. Did you get it fixed?

  • @lethalchaos19

      That's my upgraded 501 Mitsubishi throttle body. It came from a jink yard (hence the yellow marker) out of a Gallant. I also flashed my ROM on my computer to take advantage of the added breathing capacity.

    • @dillanaddington7022
      @dillanaddington7022 Před 9 lety

      +Micah G Robinson hey man, how did you flash your rom? I did a EGR delete when I got my RRM ported and polished intake and throttle body. Now it is throwing a low flow code and I am NOT hooking it back up lol.

    • @bly4233
      @bly4233 Před 5 lety

      Dillan Addington Yeah, that’s what happens when you remove the part but don’t reprogram the computer to ignore the egr. It senses low flow because there is NO flow. Hence, check engine light.

      It's worth a shot. Cleaning them very often fixes the issue and then you can avoid the replacement. You'll have to clear the code after you clean it and see if the check engine code comes back on.

      Gao Ee Yang Is it not throwing any check engine codes? Have you had it long? I ask because these cars idle a little rough from the factory due to the factory set low RPM idle (though you can't raise it without throwing codes either lol)
      A correctly running 2.0L Lancer with factory tune, intake, exhaust etc. will sound almost like a Volkswagen diesel at idle.

    you shouldn't spray carb cleaner into the vacuum port it will eat away at the diaphragm that opens and closes the valve and there is no carbon build up there
