Since this doesn't work anymore I set up plex to launch from my launchbox but the plex media player was dropping a lot of frames on this older system. So used another program to scrape and set up everything inside launchbox with vlc and with artwork in appropriate places for bigbox. Works great now.
I can see how you could add art or ever trailers easily (although downloading trailers would take a lot of HDD space and it's really pointless), but how would you import other information, like synopsis, reviews, director/cast name...? I was just looking for something like Launchbox for movies/tv, since I don't like plex/jellyfin.
Which program did you use?
I've tried this is 2020 but the movie do not scrape when I click scrape movies. Is the plug in just dead now or have I missed something?
So i got all set up but when i select my movie and try to scrape it, nothing happens...
Also if you want to keep from having to rename your movies for the scraper to work, you can manually edit the Title area of the Movies.xml file, but you also have to know how to trick launchbox into not just overwriting your corrections with backups when you do. and that might be beyond the scope of the type of stuff you want to teach.
I noticed that the images were loading before you scraped them on NotLD, and Transformers, what caused that?
Can i use cloud to import my movies and tv shows via Google drive?

I have problems with that plugin says that windows does not let open those DLL!!
Trying to load up some movies, but it's stuck on refreshing local meta data. Any advice would be great.
You can select Multiple movies but you will have to intervene in just about every one of them to tell it it has the correct movie. And if you have 2 movies with the same name (for example if you call two movies Bad News Bears 1976 and Bad News Bears 2005 the scraper will not find them so they end up having the same name for the scraper to be able to find it) they will end up with the same cover art, and you will have to fix it manually. but I believe it will be worth the effort to have these available to launch from launchbox.
It would be amazing if they can add playlists/genres as a subcategory in movies

How do I change the BIGBOX logo from appearing when you start up BIGBOX? I just want the video intro to show . Anyone know?
The only thing I can't seem to get working properly is the custom clear logo in Big Box. It works fine in the default theme, but I can't seem to get it working in my chosen theme (Metallic). I even tried adding the logo to the theme's folder. Any help would be awesome!
I dont use Metallic and I hope you resolved the issue by now, but if not try labeling them as banners instead.

Does anyone know where I can get a VLC platform video? I want to play a short video that acts like a platform video for VLC the same as when a video plays for the Sega Genesis for example.

Not sure if you are aware but Retroarch can play movies! Best part about that is you can use the filters and overlays! so i use my launchbox and retroarch to play old horror movies using the CRT VHS filter and an old TV png overlay. Its pretty awesome.
Use the ffmpeg_libretro core for playing movies.

Awesome, I better get to work it will take me a while. lol some of us have in the neighborhood of 10K files for movies and episodes of TV shows, speaking of which you didn't mention if it would scrape for tv show data. All my files are mp4's with embedded Cover art, and meta data. It would be awesome if launchbox could just display that. no scraping needed. that is what is necessary to have cover art and metadata in itunes, it must be embedded into the file which is currently the launcher I use for my movies, I'f I can jump to launchbox for that...Heaven. Then I would run Big Box On my 120" projector in my theater.
Great tutorial, was looking for a "front end" for all my movies and didn't want any sort of streaming service like Plex or the others. I followed your extremely easy to follow instructions, scraped details perfectly with one exception - LaunchBox will display the background images when you click on a movie, but not the actual movie image itself! Refreshing, quitting the program etc. doesn't seem to help. Anyone else experience this, know a fix for it?
Huh, figured it out. No issue with LaunchBox or Movie Scraper. For some reason, "image type" was chosen as something other than "Boxes". (Right click where the image should be, look at the bottom of the context menu and choose "Image Type".) No clue why, haven't changed that. Leaving my original comment in place in case anyone else comes across the issue.

Is there alterative to movie scraper 2.0 plugin because it is not working? Or is there a way to manually get metadata?
Looks like this third party plugin was unfortunately became unsupported by the author. You can always manually create Movie entries in LaunchBox by pressing the Add button on the buttons bar, or right clicking on the image/list views and choosing Add.

You would type it in manually as best you can. When you open the Add Game window, all the fields are blank, you just need to fill them in. Just make sure you are adding every entry into some kind of Movie platform (or whatever you'd like to call it). If you are wanting to add your own Movie specific metadata fields, you can use Custom Fields for that.

i prefer to use the kodi launchbox script until they make the addon work to scrape all movies......not going to do 6700 movies individually lol
ETA PRIME yeah lol yify is where its at......been downloading from them since the beginning. when you have kids and ppl dont want to return dvds they borrow. you tend to download them only lol

Plex does the same just better. I will keep launchbox for what it was meant to be used: games!
