⚠️ In Islam, Jesus (known as ‘Issa in Arabic) - peace be upon him - holds a revered position as one of the mightiest prophets sent by Allah (God, in Arabic). Muslims believe in his miraculous birth to the Virgin Mary (Maryam), performing miracles by the will of God, and his ascension to heaven. While there are theological differences regarding Jesus's divinity between Islam and Christianity, Muslims consider him a human prophet and messenger, not the son of God.
Allah says in the final revelation, revealed to Prophet Muhammad - peace and blessings be upon him - through the Angel Gabriel, “It does not befit the majesty of God that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! He is far above that: when He decrees something, He only says, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Surah Maryam, Verse 35).
The Quran emphasizes Jesus's noble character, his teachings of compassion, love, and devotion to God, and his role as a precursor to the final message of Islam brought by Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon them. Muslims await Jesus's return - peace be upon him - in the future as a sign of the end times and the establishment of justice and peace on Earth.
Muslims believe that Jesus - peace be upon him - was a Muslim in the broader sense of the term, meaning that he submitted to the will of God (Allah) and preached monotheism. The word "Muslim" itself means one who submits to God, and from this perspective, all prophets, including Jesus, are considered Muslims in their devotion to God's guidance. In Islamic theology, Jesus's teachings align with the core principles of Islam, such as belief in the oneness of God, accountability for actions, and the importance of righteous conduct.
