Finally someone who is knowledgeable with cinematography/editing/photography who doesn't make videos with an assumption that all viewers are full time with this stuff. I'm a hobbyist with this and just starting out so these simple videos are great. Hell I had to figure out what's the "best practice" for attaching cameras to different kinds of tripods/monopods...

Good review. I would recommend Protune, FLAT, Low sharpness, set WB, and then adjusting in Davinci Resolve. I tested the default settings to the Protune color graded and it was a big difference. When skiing I used 100-400 (bright sun in spots, but shaddy in the trees). Batteries suck, so definitely get the dual charger with the extra battery. I also carry around a little USB charger so that I can charge a battery while using the GoPro on the move.

For the best picture, I'd also try to use 24fps and the shutter speed as close to 1/48th as possible (don't know about the GoPro 7 options, maybe 1/50th is available). With higher frame rates (unless we have to slow down later) we don't let enough light in and the ISO goes too high + video doesn't look smooth (in action videos, we might not want smooth though). Also, most professional pic, I'd lock the exposure where ever it is possible and not too much work. Wobbly exposure is the least professional look - e.g. wiping with the hands in the frame making it re-calculate the overall exposure.

Hi, how can you leave the camera to record for hours and not worry about it? I get a maximum of 1 - 1.30 hours if I am lucky with my hero 7. I am regretting buying it, they are so much hassle. I’m starting to wish I had not wasted my money and stuck with my smart phone.

I feel the same way about gopro. I ended up getting mine used on ebay and it came with 4 batteries and one day i charged 1 battery to 100% and used it for a while, turned off camera and then when i went to turn it on the next day it was at 70%.
I rather use my phone for video as it takes longer for the battery to drain.

We plan on recording fast action (think marble runs) as well as old fashioned vacation footage and I understand this can be set to record at slower speed as well. Watching all the way here in Mauritius. Excellent informative video. Would be nice if you were able to do some reviews for drones and tips/advice on how to use them at weddings or social events.
Just a tip, the quick edits where you say one word, then cut to say another single word, and again, is a bit jarring. I watched your video using my Bluetooth speaker and it felt like your speech was skipping a tad bit too much. Apart from that, all your video ranks as one of the most helpful out there for this particular camera. Thanks!

@Mark Allen Sorry to hear about your experience Mark. It seems like nobody has written about the issues we've had and they absolutely love their Go-Pro 7's. The 2nd time it didn't overheat, it just kept filming for 2 to 3 min then shut off. I was at my nephew's b-day party, in a bowling alley. I will try to film in 2k and see what happens.
