  • @lisar3944
    @lisar3944 Před 25 dny +14

    ahhhhh - Mike's comments about the "inside jokes" in their lyrics....maybe it's an age/pop culture thing, but that was a HUGE part of their appeal - like the cherry on top. And what's more, it aged over time and kept capturing what was going on, at least with me and my friends. Low rider bicycles, EF Hutton, Bodhisattva/Buddhist stuff, pretty much everything on to the 5 boroughs, a lot of retro references that took me back...even busting out about a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape SLAYED me - that was me, too!
    There will never be a group who I feel really captures my experiences of life like they have. From the very beginning with cookie puss and their punk stuff, to how bratty and objectively unpleasant they were in the License to Ill days, turning that around over time and becoming really stand-up men, all the way through to "the end" - it's like we grew up together and they put all of the quirky details of that journey on blast. I don't think I can properly express what that means to me. And here they are, these totally down to earth guys who still seem a bit oblivious about how relatable they and their lyrics are. Absolute gems of human beings. RIP Yauch and endless thanks to all three of you.

    I met Adam Y VERY briefly in the Union Square dorms at Parsons in 1988.
    He was dating one of my friends who lived down the hall. She is still one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.
    By that point, they’d been dating for a few years.
    I walked into my friend’s suite, she introduced me to Adam, I nonchalantly nodded and said ‘Hey.’ And he did the same and we all talked for about fifteen to twenty minutes and I went back to my place.
    Ironically, I missed seeing the Beastie Boys perform the last night of Madonna’s Virgin Tour 3 years earlier because my Aunt’s friend Maripol got my friends and I third row tickets on a school night.
    While the Beastie Boys were performing we were running to my Aunt’s apartment to pick up the tickets.

    they must have hard drives and tapes of music that will never see the light of day. Great Ad-Rock and Mike D are still going strong. Must really suck to lose such a close friend and band mate.Going to play some Beastie Boys tracks now.

    Aw man! Bless Bley for tryin to put some lightheartedness into the convo at the end. Conan has a tendency lately to do to guest what he hates when people do it to him, not talk but just fawn and admire. Lighten up Coco! They all just wanna be your friends! Maybe!

    these two are showing there maturity.. and that is good.. and could you imagine if they were a pod cast that talked to all levels of rappers, from early on to now, hard rap to main stream to pop... I think they could do it.. I think they have the clout to have guests from all eras and popularity?

    MCA was my favorite beastie boy. Always thought his dry vocals and rhyme style were great in contrast to Mike D’s and Ad-Rock higher pitch sound.
