Using a harness for Wingfoiling

- Should you use a harness when you go wingfoil? The answer for me is: it depends on my type of session. If I'm riding long windswell or go for a long cruise, the harness really helps to get upwind faster without making my arms super tired. The same for when it's cold and I'm wearing gloves.
When I do a downwinder or spend most of my session trying jumps, and don't need to do long tacks upwind, I still like to go without harness.

I’m starting and I bought a harness cause I know when I learn I’ll be riding a lot.
Great video. I've been using a harness for some time and love it, I think it significantly increases time on the water, and upwind is so much easier. I prefer a hook which you can push to the side along the harness strap rather than the metal bar type.
Thank you, I completely agree!
Great video 🏄🏼♂️👍
I was wondering when a harness would start becoming standard for the wingfoil. I can only imagine many riders starting to get "wrist cramps" from aggressive riding or after long hours in the water. I used to windsurf and when I was at an intermediate level I "resisted" using a harness, because I enjoyed the physical exertion of my arms and shoulders against the wind. Until, I started to get "cramps". Game over. To be a mile away from shore with hands that don't work is scary.
Exactly! For the long sessions it makes a huge difference. It's still not as heavy as windsurfing, since we're up on the foil, but there were times that I had to sit down for a moment and give my arms some rest.
@@AnnelousLammerts You can also attach your board leash to the back of the harness. Maybe positive?
Very good video. Tks 🤙
A good front wing foil will get you upwind a lot more easily too.
Correct, gear plays an important role in upwind performance. Also the length of the mast and type of wing that you are using. But on all gear, being able to put more load thanks to the harness will help with your angle upwind.
Hahaha die opmerking over neopreen handschoenen, precies de reden dat ik een filmpje over wingen met trapeze zocht. 🤭
Hello! Wich brand is thia harness? Where can i buy it? Im from Brazil but goes sometimes to Holand! Great vidéo and explanations 👊😎
Hi Monica, this is the Dakine Fly wing harness. Nice, I love going to Brazil my self. I haven’t been for a while but so many great spots for kite and wing 🇧🇷!
@AnnelousLammerts tks! The north of Brazil is perfect for kite and wing foil is growing a lot!!!
I noticed you mount the harness at the front. Not between the handles. What is your logic for that?
Good point! :) It was my first session, and my wing has different attachment points so I just started there and later moved them back. Definitely better power distribution with the mount more backwards.
Ils getting cold by the belgium border and neoprene gloves are awesome for warmth but super hard on hands and forearms! I had to stop riding because I could not hold the wing anymore after à short while. Harness seems like a good solution. Any other solution to cramps due to gloves ?
Same here in Holland, I’m using the neoprene open palm mittens. It’s good protection against the wind chill with this East wind 🥶
@@AnnelousLammerts Oh ok! So you still get a good grip and no cramps compared to regular 4mm neoprene gloves?
@@sixerantoine5757 Yes, it's not as warm of course since there is no neoprene at the palm of your hand, but for me it works perfectly and I ride pretty much trough the whole winter.
@@AnnelousLammerts ok 👌 thanks for your feedback
