    VM deserved their gold in Korea. Period. PC performed a terrible terrible SD regardless the dress problem (the twizzles they perfomed BEFORE the mulfunction , for instance, were completely out of sync and got LEVEL 4 a true scandal.. And what about the complete lack of sensuality/chemistry between the two? My old cat dancing Shape of You is more sensual then PC). I had the impression that the judges overscored ridicolously the French very lousy SD to have later a wider chance to let them win the overall competition. But they didn't manage. VM's overflowing talent and steel nerves prevented them from succeeding. As to Sochi go and listen to what Kokko said about the SD scoring .. Do you know who Kokko is, don't you? One of the greatest ice dancer ever, the one who invented the Finnstep..... I've watched Virtue/Moir's routines and they are truly beautiful, talented skaters. But they really haven't handled their silver medal at Sochi well at all. They trained with Davis/White when they won GOLD in 2010 Vancouver, and Zoueva was their coach back then as well. They didn't win because they got out-competed this time. It seems that they let the pressure of their previous gold medal get to their heads. Instead of truly focusing the skating, they focused too much on the flash and the show of being previous olympic champions. That's why they won. There is no conspiracy. No judging bias. Elite sports is a very mental game. Those who can't take the mental pressure aren't able to stay at the top. Unfortunately, talent alone is not enough. It's all mental. It seems Davis/White played the better mental game this time around.

    • @prism1386
      @prism1386 Před 8 lety +18

      +ljlj18 Well you may say that but if you kind of know ice dancing, you will see that in 2010 Davis and White were not even on the same level with Tessa and Scott, both technically and artistically. Tessa and Scott's win in 2010 is undoubtable. I agree that Meryl and Charlie had grown quite a lot during the four years after Vancouver, but that didn't necessarily make them that better than Tessa and Scott in terms of the score. Because Tessa and Scott had matured a lot as well. They tried many different styles of dancing. They had taken on aesthetically ground-breaking (Carmen) and technically unprecedented (Latin Medley) programs and produced many brilliant performances. They did not do well in the team event in Sochi, but skated flawlessly during the individual event. I questioned the levels for the pattern dance elements of these two couples in the short dance, and also the levels for step sequences in the free dance. Because I think Tessa and Scott should have edged on those elements over the Americans. Instead, the technical panel went in favor of Meryl and Charlie and gave them ultimately the technical advantage over Tessa and Scott. That's what made the final result look like. Because everyone knows that the PCS is going up or down with the TES.
      Anyway, whether you know or don't know the sport, it is logically very weak to say things like what you said. If you are right, the Russian couple could have won gold in Sochi because that was at their home country, and they work hard, and they also look beautiful, and they handled their mental pressure very well (no major faults, skate of their life), just like the Americans. But we all know that's impossible because the Russians were not on the same level (most technically and the choreography) with the two couples ahead of them. As far as I know, Tessa and Scott took their pressure very well in Sochi, they didn't even know the media buzz of judging conspiracy until they went back home (they didn't use their phones or get on internet during the competition).
      If the mental strategy of Meryl and Charlie that you are talking about is by saying that they were good friends but actually they were not. Then this could get very interesting.

    It was interviews like this after the Sochi Olympics that turned me off on these two. So much suggestion and innuendo about "the fix being in" for Meryl & Charlie and the trash talking about Marina Zueva made my jaw drop at the petty and unsportsman-like attitude of them. In fact, this interview is mild compared to others. They were sure to hop on the talk show and radio circuit after the games, doing every show they could book in order to promote themselves as victims instead of taking responsibility for their own performances. When some in the press started calling BS on Virtue and Moir's baseless accusations, Moir sheepishly replied, "We were just being honest." No, you were being sore losers.
    There are figure skaters in the past that really WERE the victims of things like Eastern block judging who didn't behave the in the spiteful way Virtue and Moir did. Even Sale & Pelltier, who really were the victims of a PROVEN cheating sandal at the 02 Olympics, handled themselves with class during the whole situation, never once speaking ill of the Russian pair, who had nothing to do with it. In contrast, Virtue and Moir outright claimed a judging scandal, with ZERO proof in favor of totally ignoring the fact that Meryl and Charlie BEAT Virtue and Moir for two straight years leading into the Sochi games. That's a lot of competitions to "fix". I also thought talking such trash about people you claimed were your friends and training partners was particularly loathsome.
    They're lucky Papadakis and Cizerone had their SD wardrobe malfunction in Peyongchang, or they certainly would have wiped the floor with these two, as they had at the Grand Prix Final, and even beat V&M in their 2018 Olympic FD. Then again, maybe "the fix was in" and somebody sabotaged Gabriel's dress. LOL

      Paol: A real "scandal" is Scott Moir nearly falling down at Worlds 2017 and the pair getting ZERO deductions for it, then going on to "win" the competition.
      Out of the four skates between the 2017 Grand Prix Final and the 2018 Olympics, P&C defeated V&M in 3 of the 4 match-ups. They won the SD and FD at the GPF and the FD at the Olympics. V&M only beat them in the SD at the Olympics, and only because of the wardrobe issue. That's it.
      P&C lost the Olympics because of a total fluke, and V&M lucked out. That's the truth, and they know it. All things being equal, V&M would never have beaten P&C, as the GPF just weeks before the Olympics proved, as well as P&C beating V&M''s world record at the 2018 Worlds only weeks after the Olympics. I also find it odd that the Olympic gold medalists lost the FD, the longest and more difficult part of the competition. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.

    • @paolasusanna
      @paolasusanna Před 6 lety +6

      but why all of you poor loser PC's fans feel the urgency to come and see and comment VM videos? I don't waste my time going and seeing PC videos, cause I hate to be bored and life is too short to do things that make you bored to death. Get over it. Live with that. VM are considered the goat in ice dance together if not a little bit above T/D. And the more passionate and enthusiastic fans of VM are, hear ye, hear ye, right the Brits. Yes, the Brits, T/D's fellow countrymen. Have you an idea of how hard it is for a Brit to admit that someone coming from another country is better than a Brit itself at doing something? Evidently you don't. People in ice dance world started speaking about VM as one of the the best couple ever in the very early stage of their career. NOBODY as ever told that about PC (whose zero versatility match perfectly with their unstandable and ridicolous French pomposity). You say that they won the FD? So what? Who cares? First of all , and as I explained before, the scores of PC's FD were ridicolously high in the attempt to make them win the overall competition. Second, the SD is the true TEST in ice dancing, because it took the place of both Compulsory Dance (CD) and Original Dance (OG), the segment of the competition which really and actually showed the skating/dancing skills of a couple. Third, Moulin Rouge has become an iconic routine, and it will be remembered in years to come... This is the true sign of a real winning performance. And you know, time is a gentleman.....An PC's FD? It will be forgotten in a few months, maybe before. It is not a milestone. It is not innovative and it is absolutely confusingly similar with tens and tens of other routines performed before. Forth: it is evident that you don't know at all ice dancing history. In 2008 World Champ the French Isabelle Delobel / Olivier Schoenfelder won the gold medal BUT the better FD was.....Guess... Yes... VM's FD..... and VM won the silver medal. Back to studying, baby.... BACK TO STUDYING.

      paola: Rant on all you want. Facts are facts. P&C defeated V&M in 3 of the 4 skates they went up against each other before and during the Olympics. There was no way V&M were going to win in Korea barring some kind of uncharacteristic meltdown or catastrophe with P&C, and that's what happened. They got lucky. But all things being equal, they never would have come out on top. So, there will always be an asterisk next to their Peyongchang gold medal.
