Dude did a great job defending against the guy pretending to be a white belt.
Not necessarily pretending. Just because he’s a white belt in BJJ doesn’t mean he’s new to grappling. He could be skilled in Catch Wrestling for instance. Not all white belts are built the same.
@@darkcircle899 I totally agree you know the thing is it’s like as a wrestler as a Sambo guy as like a guy that does catch wrestling it’s all grappling a judo Guy! He absolutely could have a lot of that kind of stuff and I think he has a lot of wrestling experience or something but the thing is a lot of Jujitsu guys Pooh Pooh that but then when it comes to this and they say oh well what about that that guys doing this and blah blah blah. The thing is they need to have more wrestling understanding of grappling understanding from different styles in jujitsu. Don’t be like judo and just because a wrestler can take them down outlaw all wrestling moves to do takedowns in judo. Learn how to defend yourself versus it mean there’s so much good things that you can teach both sides of this! So the big thing is last class that I was teaching it was about not letting anybody ever put their arm behind your head, never ever let your opponent put their hand in front of your neck inside control or when they have your back or anything. Professor Pedro Sauer would always tell me don’t have them put their dirty feet on you so those are very good things to work on when you’re trying to be better at your jujitsu. Then there was a lot of times when guys had like a lot of different concepts and different things they could’ve done one of my students sent me this and I was looking it over and I decided it class I will talk about a blast double and I will talk about how to defend myself versus that as being a multi state wrestler the rest of the college and has been wrestling since I was four years old but yet I’m a black belt in Jujitsu! I told my student I said OK look over this video and tell me what you would do if you were one person or the other and then we can talk about it that way I can get my students to really see more of what could happen or what could not happen and then I can also teach more things to them and help them get better at jujitsu
@@darkcircle899 Grayson St. Laurent is a CIS level wrestler from the University of New Brunswick.
Maybe he's a wrestler
He looked like a wrestler to me
This is the fabled 18th striped white belt of legend
I’m gonna have the zebra belt. With horizontal stripes. 🦓
His next belt will be white with red strips.
Lmao
Just google his name, he's a Canadian collegiate wrestler. Should be competing as a blue belt, so yeah, he's sandbagging. Griffin, you did great man!
He can only be the belt he's been given
@@MrNickW123 pretty sure collegiate wrestlers are supposed to compete at blue belt in many tournaments even if theyre a white belt at their gym
appreciate it my man
@@anthonylongobardo2623
I didn't know that.
Other kid. Looks great
@@griffinmaathuis9423
Well you looked good anyway.
No shame in that loss
The one guy earned his 7th stripe after this match
Bwahahahaha
Hahaha
Blast double, fireman, chest to chest, Peruvian neck tie, arm in g to anaconda to gator roll to darce with leg tie. Plus countless other subs. Kudos to his opponent who escaped all of that and chose to compete despite the obvious skill disparity.
This! That blast double was fierce.
for real!
Yeah all legit white belt moves…
And weight disparity. This was an “absolute” match.
To be fair he gave the double away by standing upright like that
Respect to the real white belt and his coaches. He's tough as nails, which is primarily what you want to learn to be as a white belt. He took on someone that has been grappling for quite a bit of time and held on despite being mauled. I would love to see them go at it again when they are purple belts.
Great comment
“Sand bagger dominates legitimate white belt” that’s a more accurate title lol
Why sand bagger? Maybe he's just like myself, who's training in MMA gym where he dose jiu-jitsu once or max twice a week for last 4 years and enters tournament with zero grading, just like myself.. When I go to train at a local bjj club with my gi and zero stripes white belt around my waist,I can hang in very comfortably with purple belts, bud dose not make me a sand bagger,I just don't have anyone who can grade me by bjj rules.. ;-)
@@andreasseimas1130 i’m fairly certain you can just decide to compete at a higher belt rank except for black, you the definition of a sandbagger
@@skyrimaddic87 according to the most people that I've spoke about this matter, they told me I can only compete white or blue belt category, but for my first competition I have to compete along the white belt category.. Hope somebody can correct me on this matter if that is wrong?
@@andreasseimas1130 That’s literally sand bagging. You’re a sand bagger.
@@andreasseimas1130 do no gi and move up to intermediate or advanced. You're wasting your own time and money competing against white belts if you can hang with purples
This guy is definitely a wrestler, once I saw that double I already knew 😂
If I'm not mistaken, wrestlers should compete as blue belts, at least in nogi
@@CarlosDaniel-od7bx no gi yes you can not compete with beginners, gi is different. IBJJF. Rule 5.5. "Collegiate wrestlers and judo blackbelts must compete in blue+" If you do not meet one of these two criteria you compete in your awarded belt decision even if it is white.
I would say he knows Wrestling and he also played football
@@jaredlynch2904 Thanks, mate
@@tyhatfield7156 with the force of that double yeah football makes sense because he went forward not to the side.
Damn, seemed well above white belt to me. Got my second comp this weekend and I'm fucked if I get a guy like him 😂
He hit a perfect shot right away and a lat drop hes a wrestler who got sandbagged. Wreslers are supposed to start at blue for competition if they’re all state level or wrestled in college.
@@ShawnSwander I think that would be a bit unfair, regardless of how good someone is at wrestling, once they put on a gi and someone knows how to use it to their advantage (especially at blue).. It doesn't matter if you shoot a nice double, the collar chokes will still be an easy target
@@victor_tempestbjj You should consider a wrestler isn't going to compete with zero experience. they learn how to use the Gi too and they have a background to learn more quickly than average. I'm 16-0 and never been scored on because of wrestling I did forfeit once due to injury while taking someone's back because I have a bad knee but it was a best of 3 and I won the other 2 matches 12-0 and 18-0. People think choking a college wrestler would be easy but they don't consider that EVERYONE tries to choke us off our shot so we' get good at defending it fast and a lot of chokes are "dirty" wrestling techniques that we're familiar with. I won a 64 man IBJJF world championship at blue belt after training a few months 6 matches without giving up a single point because I"m a college wrestler. My hardest 2 matches were against college wrestlers. If anything it was unfair to my opponents that I had 25 years of grappling experience and they had less than 4. Most black belts imo shoot worse than JV college wrestlers.
@@ShawnSwander That's a really valid point, I can't argue with that. I guess in my head I consider the belt to be based off what an individual knows technique-wise and the ability to be able to use it in practice as opposed to utilizing knowledge from different sports/martial arts. This is similar to Judo, we have a lot of Judoka in my club and even the black belt Judokas put on their white belts for BJJ, same goes the other way around, we have a black belt in BJJ who puts on his white belt for Judo. Granted it's not quite as similar as wrestling and BJJ, I hope my point comes through as well. Maybe start them at 4 stripes white LOL but I think to be a blue belt, they need to be able to fundamentally showcase all the basic submissions, sweeps, escapes and whatnot
@@victor_tempestbjj Belt rank kind of depends on the teacher and the student. If a student isn't going to compete it's probably more based on their knowledge of techniques and time in rank. If you compete you need your belt rank to reflect your degree of competition more of you'll be sandbagging or losing all your matches. I'd say my rank mostly reflects competition level I'm a brown belt but my judo throws are terrible because my wrestling background and 10 years as a wrestling coach with smaller athletes makes it hard for me to do throws that land on the opponent because I can't really practice them without hurting someone. I also can do a lot of judo throws but I don't know the name of the throws very well because we call them something else in wrestling. Also my guard is weaker than my top game because no one ever takes me down so I never play guard unless I pull. So I guess that's why it's a martial "art" everyone has strong sides and weak sides.
That face you made after the first takedown to your coach had me rolling mate🤣 Oh shit .. here we go
Yeah that was hilarious lol great attitude
had no idea who he was at the beginning..... found out pretty quick lmao
Way to keep it light. Great attitude. No one’s going home in a body bag. Had me rolling!
He has some good knowledge of takedowns, but whenever he had your back, he didn't seem to know what to do with it, lol. Good showing.
If he's a white belt then I'm an importer/exporter at Vandalay Industries
I’m marine biologist bubba
And I'm an Architect too.
Focusing mostly on importing.
Mad props to you for keeping a good attitude, great match that guy was a monster lol
Sandbagging national champ wrestler with 50+ pounds and several years on you and he still couldn’t get the sub. You did fantastic.
Haha! for real! what a loser the sandbagger is
he must be very proud, most people wouldn't have the guts to sandbag that hard
lol. True commitment.
They must have had to sweep pounds of sand off the mat after that guy got done fighting. I sure hope it was worth it to his gym, punching down so blatantly. Might as well have had an NCAA finalist basketball player enroll in an intramural league.
Kudos to you for putting up such a fight and surviving that awful mismatch!
Sandbagging at it's best. I once fought a blue belt who'd been training for 11 years at comp lol
Not to give any outs for sandbaggers but if your coach is a purple belt, you can't get promoted until your coach gets his brown, which might take a long time under certain conditions. Happened at my gym. Coach was basically a brown belt waiting to get promoted, but didn't have a coach at the time. So he couldn't promote any of his students until that was dealt with. Had some crazy blue and purple belts in that gym. Guy with his purple belt has had it so long it looks white lmao
"Yeah, I did a little wrestling in high school."
Went 16-4 senior year, winning most matches by tech fall utilizing the "take down, let them back up, take down again" technique 😂
3 times to the feet, 3 fast takedowns. 4th time he pulls guard 😂
I was a college wrestler and had to compete as a blue belt while a white belt per the rules of every tournament I looked into, and that was just a few months back.
Always good to see upper belts put on their white belts in competition
This happened to me in my first comp. First guy I fought trains the same gym as Paddy Pimblett (as I found out after) wrestling experience coming out of his cauliflower ears, just under a year (apparently) of BJJ. I was a 1stripe white belt no wrestling training bjj for about 6 months. Double leg. Smash guard side control, collar tie, arm triangle. Over. Lasted about 3.5 minutes. Totally sandbagging the beginner division to get those tasty medals 🙄
That look you made camera after the first take down had me cracking up. "Damn, this is going to be a rough one." Been there many times myself. The results and score be damned, Good job nonetheless.
This is epic level sandbagging lmao Good job dude you did pretty well
Lol, after those two power takedowns I'd pbbly started on my back too 😂
The other guy seems to good to be a white belt
There is nothing more terrifying than being a white belt in your first tournament and realizing within 20 seconds that your opponent wrestled
Well that’s one way for a quick 5 points. Damn Griff, I’ve been watching nothing but white belt matches because that’s what I am and it helps to watch others to see what they do and you might be right. Definitely one of the best white belt matches I’ve seen. 👍🏼🙏🏼
Nice fight, you did great, man. That dude was such a sandbagger.
I love your takedowns
He’s my math teacher
Same
Idk why I was expecting a judo match and then the dude goes for the blast double right off the jump 😂😂
Ngl those were some pretty sick takedowns
Fantastic match, love how the white belt was all smiles after getting slammed just knowing that it was a bit ridiculous.
Wow that guy who really was a white belt deserves a round of applause.
White belt my ass. I went to my first comp after 1 and a half month of Gracie and I thought ok, white belt it cannot be that bad. The guy that won the category was a black belt 24-25yo judo guy 😂 🙃
Oh boy you gotta love that shit
wow well done! that was an awesome match!
His takedowns were fire though 🔥
Great defense on the white belts' part too 💯
Shame to see sandbagging when these white belts train hard cut weight and prep. He’s defo a blue
These comments had me dying and yes Griffin you did excellent. As a new white belt myself, this is usually what happens to me in the gym LOL. Sometimes I'll get other white belts to tap ;]
Smells like sandbagging. Regardless of his wrestling, he knows so many submissions that this tell me someone stayed Whitebelt for far too long.
That double leg was insane. Good defense tho
Guys take Downs seem very advanced for a white belt,as a White belt I wouldn't have lasted that long.well done great defending.
So much energy, also good defence from that guy
How long have you been training at this point? you're very skilled!
Those takedown are spectacular
And that, my friends, is how to spell SANDBAG. That double leg entry right off the bat screams it. Great respect for the one who "lost".
Sandbagging the likes of which I've never seen before
It was really something special. I'd actually go a step further and say it rose to the level of cheating
Not Necessarily sandbagging. This guy could literally just be someone who has done wrestling. I would actually say it’s likely he did wrestling to a high level with a shot like that. I know of 0 guys who just train BJJ and actually have a good shot. Wrestling gives you a huge leg up I was good enough to be state champion in my state and wrestle in College. When I went to a BJJ studio/gym or whatever it’s called I could hang with almost anyone in the room. On my feet I could tool on black belts. On the ground I had good body awareness and submitting me was hard for most people. The reality is he could literally be new to BJJ but just an experienced wrestler and have this same outcome. That was a lot to defend some guy I don’t know but people said the same thing about me in my early competitions I competed in, and it’s not cool to say someone is cheating because they are better than other people.
@@darkcircle899 he got bronze in the Olympics lol
@@ck3082 third at Olympic trials, never went to the Olympics.
@@Teganguenette lmao ok either way better than all of us
@@ck3082 Oh ok I didn’t know that, but like I said he very well may be a good wrestler. I was just saying you don’t have to be an amazing wrestler to do a double leg on someone that is no skilled at standing grappling but if he won a bronze medal he obviously is an elite wrestler.
0:19 has me geekin, great work man frfr
when a veteran wrestler decided to learn BJJ
What is the green and yellow belt?
That was intense. Great thumbnail!
I don’t think the other guy is a white belt, or maybeeeeee he was a wrestler. To good to be white
Maybe was a wrestler? He's a collegiate wrestler bruv.
cauliflower ear should mean automatic blue belt
Great submission defense
What's the weight difference?
When you're that good at wrestling you probably shouldn't be competing as a white belt
Right of the bat man powerful double leg takedown and immediately passes the leg.. lmao
You did great bro 👌🏽
Dude is pretty clearly high level in Judo. I believe he is a BJJ white belt, but the judo was savage to watch
Good job on both sides!
the dude's coach did him a disservice having him compete as a white belt.
Man he's good. The takedown game is solid and diversified. Very nice match. You showed great resilience. How are any of you white belt anyways haha
I can only guess that you both learned a ton from this match. I would have a hard time going against either one of you.
I'm not going to pretend like I know a single solitary thing about jui jitsu. However, that real white belt did a helluva job escaping that clearly more experienced guy. He had a clear advantage of how to use his weight and get to a position that favored him. Kid was tough.
Yellow and Green belt is definitely a solid wrestler… those takedowns were good
White belt did an amazing job defending the wrestler who is really a blue belt
Can someone explain to me why some people have those multi-colour belts in bjj? Cuz we don’t have those at my gym
Its just a belt to differentiate the competitors in the match, they give it to you before you walk on the mat
This is great
Being a world champ at white belt is like being the best at spelling, noone gives a fuck.
Massive experience difference. White belt dude did great.
This guy has some type of judo or wrestling background, he shouldn't be competing at a white belt level. he's sandbagging big time. the jiujitsu white belt did a great job defending.
I remember having a similar event like this. I was a red belt (taekwando) and I went to a comp and paired with another “red belt” (my master suspected him of being a higher belt rank then red) and it was found out that this guy also had experience as a 1st degree black belt in Karate. Needless to say, there should be more background checks for equal matches
Respect to the lighter guy who escaped a grip of submission attempts. Also, college level wrestlers do not belong in white belt divisions. Side note.
is this Judo or BJJ ?
Yo great coaching right there!!
This is why there should be a more thorough review of competitors. Was that guy white belt? Technically, sure. But how much grappling experience does he have in reality? No, he didn't finish a ton of sub attempts but the score tells a wildly different story
Solid roll
That true white belt did very well .
que fita ein os cara ta rolando demais mesmo ri demais na hora que foram pra mesa
Definitely a wrestler doing fireman's carries shooting blast doubles and suplexes 😮
He did a pretty good job stopping on the next mat and not driving through to the parking lot.
Oh shit... I just knew this would be clickbait. It surely is not. Both were pretty good. The guy in the yellow belt had some advanced skills.
If HE is a white belt, I'm a mf astronaut... (Disclaimer: I'm certainly not!!)
The definition of Sandbagging.
oooo a form tackle.
takedown game is unreal. good match
Dude might be the 17 time white belt world champion…
Damn well done mate. That other guy has 8 stripes on his white belt
I wasn’t taught omoplata until my second stripe on my Blue….. I need to go join these guys school!!
Danggggg
That one white belt with the yellow and green belt was aggressive
these guys look like wrestlers who have grappling experience
The sandbagging is strong with this one…
I really though the white belt would pull out a hail mary submission out of nowhere
Show 👏🏼🔝
wrestler should compete in blue belt division lol
After I saw the smooth ass firemans I looked at his ears and knew
This is like lying about your handicap in gold or pool. He’s got a lot of wrestling experience. The lat drop he hit is a move i couldn’t pull off and I’m a 3 time state champ with a lot of D1 wrestling experience. He’s probably legitimately a decent blue belt though he is making mistakes he’s on his knees and chasing chokes that are wasting his time. So its not like he’s lying by 2 or 3 ranks. Most divisions requested wrestlers like this to compete at blue belt.
Way to hold your own man. Was that a 40lb weight difference?
yea lol i compete at about 165 and he was in the +205 category
Yellow green guy has a judo background for sure, most likely a wrestling background. The white belt did well considering.
