Exactly, just like early Gun-n Roses. There was an element of danger to these bands that is lacking today. Everybody seems so worried about being "Politically correct" that they are scared just to let it go. God forbid anyone drink or party a little bit now, because then you have to go straight to re-hab. I am not saying that you have to be a drug addict or alcoholic, but a little of that made some of these bands what they were. There is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. In fact, some of the greatest songs have come about because of that exact thing. Take care and peace.
Chris J I think ya just need to look deeper. I mean the bands aren't going to be mainstream at the moment but there's band out there. right now I'm really digging a rock band call king gizzard and the lizard wizards
Watched this on the Late Show 1993. Just before I moved out of my parents home into the 1993 West End of Glasgow and a whole new world. I went to see them at the Barrowlands Glasgow the same year and was blown away. I will never forget it. He had a bottle of red wine which he would swig from time to time. He had an echo pedal to repeat his vocals. It was bloody amazing to behold and the band were so insanely tight.
sweet drumming at 2:25 >:D One of the great altternative bansd from the early 90s I remember seeing this at the time. Not one of my favourite Jane's song, but it's still awesome
Yeah man. The live album is great. There are a lot of overdubs on it done in the studio, but it's a really well put together live album and does Janes a lot of justice. 1%, my time, mountain song... so many good songs on that CD. Get it! :)
Perry has so much more stage presence and attitude now, saw him at Gathering of the Vibes Sat. in CT. The opening of Jane's Addiction's show gets my award for Most Exciting 2 minutes of the whole Festival! I've got it on video on my channel.
Seeing this performance back in 93 got me into the band. I went out and bought Ritual de lo Habitual, which became one of my favourite albums. Still think this live version is even better than the studio one.
janes addiction were out of their time, they were real about what they expressed. I think thats why they have still not received the respect they need as a band
When Jane's Addiction first got together in '85 they should've got a record deal a couple months later and released an album in like late '85 or '86, so they could've released mor albums because as big and influential they are, they only made 3 albums, Nothing's Shocking, Ritual De Lo Habitual, and Strays...pus they had a live/debut album, Jane's Addiction.
Couldn't have put it better myself mate.Anyone who thinks this is crap can, quite frankly, just simply "do one".This is Perry,Dave,Eric & Steve doing what they do best. Love the delay on Perry's mike, which is just the biz!
Got to be said ive been a fan of this song for a long time and the band are awesome there albums are like no othjer form of music ive eva heard the guitar solos rule and the songs are legendary
This was aired in 1990, they also did Jane Says on the same show as promotion for Ritual. People that think that ain't Navarro are talking s**t, it's so obviously him. And whoever said the vocals are crap is talking a load of bollocks, this is Farrell at his finest, one of rocks most unique voices, though his voice does sound shot these days.
@philwalker It is absolutely Dave Navarro, despite what some of these knuckleheads have suggested. Navarro was the only guitarist to ever play in Jane's Addiction. Both Erik Avery (and yeah, that's him in the video, playing the same Fender Precision Bass he always played) and Navarro quit Jane's in late 91 and that was the end of the band. Porno For Pyros never played any Jane's songs except "Mountain Song" and "Chip Away", and only later in their career. This was J.A., plain and simple.
Yea. This has been happening alot lately. They tease you with the LIVE performance in order for you to want to hear and see the original. Then you look for it and it aint nowhere to be found. This group sounds pretty cool live, however. But I would still like to see the original video!
The 90's were an absolutely creative time for alot of bands, a time when stuff was still possible, still new, is it basically because I'm old now but those times seem to be forgotten forever and will never be that way again? Everything is so generic and copied from someone else now, when is the last time something or someone has been considered groundbreaking?......... btw S.P.very underated drummer.
to all commentators writing "that's not JA-they split in'91"-read the info - "BBC Late Show "No Nirvana" compilation broadcast on BBC2 in 1993." BROADCAST not SHOOT in '93. yesterday I saw their gig @ malta festival in poznań (poland). fabulous, but too short for me (1h 15min)
Yeah, that's definitely Dave. I seriously wish he'd break out some of these old Tele-style guitars that he used to play on the current tour, because the Ibanez guitars he's been using are absolutely murdering his tone.
When the camera zooms in on Perry at the very start , hes having a joke with his band mate...when he realizes the camera is on him he trys to act mean......me and my mate use to laugh at this when we taped it back in 90s......"Being caught Laughing".....HaHa
yeah the date is wrong because this is clearly the original lineup. that's clearly avery, perkins and navarro up there with him. clearly nothing could be clearer.
Amazing live version. That is Dave on guitar? The drummer always set his kit toms up in odd or reverse order for a right hand kit, but agree he is good. I guess this was between their first and second break ups.
Now that's what you call an electrifying voice, especially with the echo/delay and reverb
this shit is so fuckin dope and edgy! Rock has no raw creativity like this anymore, thank God its recorded for us to enjoy the rest of our lives
Exactly, just like early Gun-n Roses. There was an element of danger to these bands that is lacking today. boomer
Saw them in August, sounded so damn good, haven't lost anything in their live performances. Long live Jane's.
After one year of searching I have finally found this song....finally....
I swear, if I didn't already know that was Dave Navarro on guitar, I wouldn't believe it if someone told me. Crazy how he has changed.
Same here
It's hard to believe that everyone but Stephen was strung out. They sound amazing!
just incredible, favorite band of the late 80's early 90's.
Perry's voice has enough added echo to swallow the Grand Canyon.
2:50 That woodblock shot is nifty!
Love this song live!!
Jane's at their peak
very unique vocals, I love it!

This is a fucking great song, too bad that there aren't bands like this today
sweet drumming at 2:25 >:D

Saw them in Manchester on this tour .Awesome.
that drummer is so dam funky! doesnt miss a beat!
Sounds great! Nevermind the bad source.
uou great singer, great band!
I love this song!
Definitely earlier than 93! got this on VHS somewhere!
Thanks for posting. Great video. Much better quality then what I've seen before.
Old School! Great performance !
looks and sounds like Navarro to me. He had this look in all of the live videos from this period. Damn what a player!
Thank you Boys! Love Eric’s blue hair!
90's bands are awesome
Seeing this performance back in 93 got me into the band. I went out and bought Ritual de lo Habitual, which became one of my favourite albums. Still think this live version is even better than the studio one.
yeah the first time i heard this song was on this show ,recorded in 91 and shown in 93 on the No Nirvana compilation
Weird. I just seen them at Oxegen last weekend and they were by far the best act of the weekend. Perry was legendary and the music/sound was great
I'll never understand how he can sing the way he does. So original and perfect hor the band.
@Aspenly It's a video game from 2004. One of the radio stations in the game plays this song, and you'll hear it a lot.
that voice is incredible what a cool band
one of the best in my opinion
amazing
janes addiction were out of their time, they were real about what they expressed. I think thats why they have still not received the respect they need as a band
Jane's at their peak
Definitely earlier than 93! got this on VHS somewhere!
wow Dave navarro looks so cool there i like him more like he was there
love!
u rock. thanks for posting
amazing!!!

all original members.
great version.

Love the delay on Perry's mike, which is just the biz!
just a fantastic perf.
Navarro!!!! Perkins!!!! What Band!!!!
Got to be said ive been a fan of this song for a long time and the band are awesome there albums are like no othjer form of music ive eva heard the guitar solos rule and the songs are legendary
This is one of the rare times where Perry Farrell sounded halfway decent live. He's notoriously horrible live!
not a chance man, Perry had a lot of great performances.
not 87-92.
This was aired in 1990, they also did Jane Says on the same show as promotion for Ritual. People that think that ain't Navarro are talking s**t, it's so obviously him. stephie Perkins is A BEAST on that beat
A brilliant live performance by Jane's addiction , Feeder are influenced by them . 9/10
Yea. This has been happening alot lately. They tease you with the LIVE performance in order for you to want to hear and see the original. Then you look for it and it aint nowhere to be found.

a definite WIN
saw them support nin last night in London, loved Perry's dances haha

epic voice
Hey this is cool as sh***... love this live spin on the studio version
The show "No Nirvana" was a compilation of clips from the Late Show going back several years.
to all commentators writing "that's not JA-they split in'91"-read the info - "BBC Late Show "No Nirvana" compilation broadcast on BBC2 in 1993."
BROADCAST not SHOOT in '93.
yesterday I saw their gig @ malta festival in poznań (poland).
fabulous, but too short for me (1h 15min)
it a custom ibanez tele made for him by Mike Lipe....
that guitar was great!
ahh memories :)
geweldig...
Yeah, that's definitely Dave. I seriously wish he'd break out some of these old Tele-style guitars that he used to play on the current tour, because the Ibanez guitars he's been using are absolutely murdering his tone.
I remember watching this and going mental because he improvised the part of the solo I couldn't work out how to play. Still can't to be fair.
hell yeah! This was when Perry's voice was at his best. Now it sounds shot probably cause of singing like that all these years and aging.
One of the great altternative bansd from the early 90s
@TheRonnieLuver yes it was on radio x
fav band Jane's Addiction & Alice in Chains.
When the camera zooms in on Perry at the very start , hes having a joke with his band mate...when he realizes the camera is on him he trys to act mean......me and my mate use to laugh at this when we taped it back in 90s......"Being caught Laughing".....HaHa
Perry Farrell is a genius !!!
Dope .
@Aspenly a video game and this song is in it.
Had I known you existed I'm sure you would have been the first person I consulted.
yeah the date is wrong because this is clearly the original lineup. that's clearly avery, perkins and navarro up there with him. clearly nothing could be clearer.
Epic
dave navaro is a genius :P
sounds like the recorded version after its been edited good
Wow this is a killer performance.
I always thought they said "pumpkin pie" not "if I get by"
eric's attire during this era is classic- sweatpants and an old t-shirt, if any shirt. after all, why sacrifice comfort for style?
i got em too! in toronto :)
This was a good performance.
funny thing is - Is that Dave does not like funk. He said it doesn't move him. The elements of Funk probably come from Hendrix.
That's definitely Navarro, 100% without a doubt.
sweet drumming at 2:25 >:D
Ouch, Dave missed it on this one.
Agreed, reluctantly. A little too much 90s psychedelia and not enough crunch, for my tastes.
Amazing live version. That is Dave on guitar? The drummer always set his kit toms up in odd or reverse order for a right hand kit, but agree he is good. I guess this was between their first and second break ups.
Dave looks so much better in this than now
less processed and much dirtier
wow Dave navarro looks so cool there i like him more like he was there
@TheRonnieLuver yes it was
@MrINeedSome Believe me. This is Navarro.
avery has some sweet hair
Magic tune. Everybody has gone a bit weird these days.
I agree with all that :)
How can this have so many views yet so little likes?
Whoops, looks like the copyright cops have snagged 'em all! Keep checking, though; someone will upload it again.
