  • It's the incredible story of love and survival, which is now being retold in a brand new Sky drama. After befriending holocaust survivor Lale Sokolov, Heather Morris shared his story in the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling novel 'The Tattooist of Auschwitz'. As Heather's dream of bringing Lale's bravery to the screen is realised, she joins us today alongside the actress who plays her in the drama - 'Two and A Half Men' star Melanie Lynskey. They’ll be telling us why now is more important than ever to remember the past.

I'm Australian and just binge watched all 6 episodes. It was brilliant in so many ways. I cried and was angry and I was also happy in parts too. Very brilliantly done

*Kia ora (hello) It is great to see two fabulous Kiwi ladies being interviewed on the couch. 🙂I hope this series, will be aired down here in NZ, on our TV screens soon 🙂 Melanie also starred in 'Heavenly Creatures' based on two kiwi teenage girls that killed one of their mothers. In which that movie was directed by kiwi director Peter Jackson.🙂nz*

I look forward to viewing The Tattooist of Auschwitz. I first became familiar with Melanie in the film, Heavenly Creatures, also starring Kate Winslet. Wonderful performances from both ladies. The talented Melanie will undoubtedly shine in this mini series.

Just finished the series. Very powerful and harrowing. We limited our viewing to one episode every other night as it was too stressful to binge watch. Most of the older generation are aware of the Holocaust and have watch similar film themes, Schlinder’s List comes to mind, but this seemed more up close and personable - in part due to great acting by Harvey.
Most war crime perpetrators have paid a post war price for their deeds and have passed into history. But this is a crime that should never be forgotten - monstrous.

HM mentions a conversation she overheard at Auschwitz about 2 women having mentioned the tattooist (a man) saying he was sorry…Please correct me if I’m wrong but I believe female tattooists *worked* on women; male tattooists *worked* on men.

This book / story has been heavily criticised by the Auschitz memorial foundation as being inaccurate and an insult to survivors…

Anyone ever seen a tattoo from Auschwitz that was longer than 6 digits? Anytone want to explain that?

Just over 400,000 people received tattoos in Auschwitz-Birkenau. Those who were selected at the selection, for the gas chambers, as a rule did not get a tattoo (1.1 million people).
