The F-15 first flew *nearly FIFTY years ago* and it’s still one of the world’s top combat aircraft. What a magnificent achievement.
Demonstration... Beautiful F-15C. No Tank. No hardpoints.
It’s still the reigning champ
@@boonamai8926 the raptor flew 40 years ago
@@treypeters1087 And it shot down a balloon.
Ariel is filth. I know that.
Must be something to pull back on the stick, see nothing but blue sky, the artificial horizon pitched at 90 degrees, and the altimeter spinning like a top.
@@Wohlfe : Nah. A person gets used to anything. After one or two full power climbs under your belt (wing), piece of cake !

So, you're saying that you've gotten used to blacking out and filling your puke bags....😂 @kolbpilot
Something I will always be jealous of but I'm glad we have the right people for the job
Man I can only imagine
this thing can break the sound barrier while flying STRAIGHT UP
insane engineering
❤
I experienced this sort of takeoff in F-15E Strike Eagle 90-0258 as an Air Force Academy cadet visiting RAF Lakenheath in the summer of 1992. The pilot wanted to show off. It was awesome.
Used to get f111s at manston regularly from lakenheath miss those days also got f15s as well until the mid 1990s still see them occasionally round the Kent coast hope u enjoyed your experience and your stay at raf lakenheath
Wow 🤟💯🤠🇬🇧
The thrust to weight ratio on the F-15 is one of the most unbelievable things that was achieved in the design of this masterpiece. I could be wrong but I am almost certain that I was told that the F-15 is one of the few, if not only fighter jets that can actually climb at 90 degrees straight up and accelerate in the process. To a certain altitude and point obviously, but if true it is nonetheless impressive.
A few have a greater that 1:1 ratio. MiG 29 for example
About 20 yrs ago the plane weighed 25 tons and had 26 tons of thrust, dont know about now, F22 has even more thrust to weight ratio. Friend of mine is engineer at Boeing 40 yrs works on their fighters, he was sad when he told me about the F22 having lots more thrust.
When the F-15 first flew in 1972 it was the only jet powered aircraft at the time that could accelerate with nose up at 90º. Fast forward to today and there's a few more aircraft with that capability. The F-22, Mig-29, Su-27, Su-37, and a few more. But those are the ones that I can name without looking up on Wiki or Google.
@@5kylord Yeah the F-15 was and still is an incredible machine… still relevant.
@@guaporeturns9472 Who said it wasn't?
I worked on the F-15 line back in the 80's at McDonnell Douglas - St. Louis. It was the best job ever!!!
And then Boeing happened
Nothing climbs like the eagle.
And it only climbs higher
Very cool footage!!
Apart from a typhoon in interceptor configuration. 62,500 feet in one min. Absolutely mental to watch.
The F-22 has entered the chat.
@@superskullmaster indeed, with an estimated 70,000lb thrust with afterburner this aircraft can achieve climb rates of around 350 ms .
I can watch this over and over again and never get bored.
Even with my screaming tinnitus from watching live it is still great. USAF 79-92.
I had a customer that was a retired Air Force pilot. He started with the F100 Super Saber, then the F4 Phantom II, then the F15A....he didn't get into the C before he retired. He said a full burner take off and vertical climb was nirvana. Has to be a real kick in the behind!!
One of the great sights in flying, the F15 goes vertical off the runway
Awesome, this former Eagle keep can't get enough 🤗
Do you itch for the adrenaline? Does life seem more boring not flying?
No tanks, no weapons, no pylons, no CFTs. Totally slick Eagle. What an absolute rocketship.
I never get tired of seeing that.
Awesome machine! Thanks for your service.
I'll never get tired of hearing/seeing them take off
I love the fact that this thing is half a century old and is still almost unparalleled in the sky, despite having a much more secret successor already in service for a number of decades in the form of the F-22 Raptor.
We had almost a blank check because the Air Force was scared of the Russian MIG's "capabilities." That all turned out to be Pravda "embellishments."
It’s vertical climbs like that which enable fighters to reach altitudes of 50K-60K feet and more!
Still a BADASS after all these years
What people don't realize is that with a thrust to weight ratio of over 1:1 it means the plane doesn't need lift to climb. It means that the plane could literally climb like it does without wings, it's mind boggling how much thrust that is
But it wouldn't be able to _take off_ without wings, unless it was standing on its tail like a rocket. It would also need _thrust vectoring_ to maintain control, just as rockets do.
@@fromnorway643 well yeah, but my point was directed at the sheer feat of engineering. I worked in aerospace and 1:1+ ratio on thrust to weight is awesome
@@rainyriderr1112
Yes, I know.
Many aircrafts can climb vertically if they build up a high _horizontal_ speed before pulling up, but they will generally lose most of their speed if they keep climbing like that for more than a few seconds.
However, I have also seen F-16s flying at near minimum speed with a high angle of attack before pulling up, applying full power and slowly accelerating straight up. That's how you can tell that the thrust to weight ratio is higher than 1:1.
😃
@@fromnorway643
You're 100% on spot.
Every Eagle can build up near Mach dash at low horizontal. Time to achieve that spot depends on the take-off weight and drag coefficient. Next important difference is a high-G pull, like in this case where a lot of energy is bled off before jet reaches upright position. Even with a lot of fuel being burned at tremendous rate, for those 10-20 seconds it's actually a decreasing vertical speed (slowing down).
IMHO, only F-15A had very favorable T/W ratio and actually managed to keep the climb speed picking up until thrust decrease overrun mass inertia.
The wings and tail are needed for guidance and stability.
First plane to go supersonic completely vertical! Now that’s impressive!!
Best sound ever!!!! And you know it's a kickass ride!!
Kept waiting for it to transform
Aviation is one of man kinds greatest feats, with each machine better than the last , just a pure beautiful thing to observe
there went 3000lbs of fuel!!!!
Great camera work
Can't imagine what that feels like.
the f-15 is like a hot af cougar....she may be old but she still turns heads...
Post wall 304s have nothing on this vintage masterpiece.
Fuck no, this thing is timeless
😂 accurate AF
Way ahead of it's time. Thank you Mig-25.
Many days I would sit at the Lambert viewing area during lunch and watch our deliveries of the Eagles. St. Louis is the birthplace of them all. Sux being old since that meant cell phones were still decades away.
Straight up bad ass.
And I get to watch them play tag while I play golf! Over the ocean in 4 minutes! PANG Base rocks!
World's 1st plane to accelerate vertically
A clean eagle! There is no doubt that that takeoff must have been something incredible.
On September 11th 2001 at roughly 30 minutes after the second tower got hit when F-15’s took off again: Those 4 F-15’s took off like the show of force started on takeoff. The whole Power Pro shop shook.
Me playing Magic Spear I in the background makes this video so cool.
Fly, baby! Fly!!! 😍
First aircraft to do this was the English Electric Lightning in 1960. The F Mk 1 weighed 28000 pounds and produced 30000 pounds of thrust. It would climb vertical and exceed the speed of sound in the climb. Initial rate of climb 50000ft per min. F15 also an impressive aircraft from later generation.
The electric lighting had outright records forever. Beautiful airplane. Mach one its maiden flight. Unreal
Awesome 😊
My name is „Eagle“ , Viper Pilot, nice take 🎬
Ok so I’ve seen a lot of f22s, 35s, 16s , 18 and 15s take off with after burner but why is this particular one suddenly accelerate faster than all those I’ve mentioned? My buddy in the navy said f-18s have max power than military power? Does it make a huge difference?
Wow. Greatest plane ever
LOVE THAT SOUND SO GOOD!@
The best thrust/weight ratio, in the first minute you're like in the Saturn V on the way to the Moon. F-15 can reach altitude of 20000 m. (65600 feet) within a minute.
Goosebump soundtrack
That was from PDX in Portland.
And just keeps going faster.
Note:That this aifcraft was the first to break the sound barrier vertical.

That pilot must be grinning so wide that his or her oxygen mask doesn’t fit. Getting to fly a PERFECTLY CLEAN JET (no weapons, no pylons, no CFTs or gas bags) doesn’t happen every day.
My favourite I love it rocket 🚀 that can fly with no wings it did land safely in one Incident and he did one windshield completely defies gravity hit the throttle and it’s a missile unbelievable I love it I love it I love it
Correction I was speaking in my phone wing is what I mean thank you
Even though the F15 is not a 5th gen fighter jet. if it came to a dog fight with the F35. the F15 would knock the F35 out. I love the F35. but it's meant for totally different missions. so far the F15 has the highest win record in any scenario. of any jet in actual combat. you don't abandon a proven fighter jet. but keep improving it. even the F22 Raptor can be outmaneuvered by the F15.
the thing is the f 35 is not a great dogfighter but it could take out the f-15 before the eagle could even see it.
The F-35 is a BVR fighter. You said that yourself. Also, I’m a former Crew Chief of Eagles and you are demonstrably incorrect in saying the Raptor can be out maneuvered by any model of the F-15. That is just not correct.
@@dblankenship88 i agree with you 100%. Also, which models of the Eagle were you a crew chief on?
@@sidv4615 C&D
@@sidv4615 Are you considering we created most stealth and had a need to be able to detect it? Do you think the AF would make stealth without being able to detect it?
