    I can't even begin to put in words how excellent this was! I had to take 5 mins break just to unwind from all the emotions. Such an engrossing poem. I forgot the count of time. Thank you Maam for such an amazing explanation and also for encouraging to put our own inputs into our writings. To be honest i have to watch it again as I missed some of the slides while listening and looking at you😅. Wish there were more similarities in UG and PG syllabus.

    Huge respect for you ma'am ..the way you explained this poes is just brilliant...when I started reading this poem I was very confused what Sylvia plath wants to convey..she is contradictory her own words in this poem.. and i thought that she just wrote this in her anger but after watching this video I must say I have developed a huge respect for her...the world needs more like her and you are just amazing..words can't describe how I'm feeling right now... reality should be come infront of all.. looking forward for more such explanation...thank you so much 💗

    Absolutely engrossing and riveting lecture. It educates and elucidates the poem so meticulosly with support of facts and valid interpretations. Thrilling to listen to discover what's between the lines. Devastatingly brilliant and shocking towards the end,
    It takes a brilliant mind to uncover the tortured brilliance of Sylvia Plath. And this is the first time I came across her poem. Many grateful thanks. Robert from SG.

    Dear mam ,
    Thanks for such a critically viewed analysis of this poem , the in between lines observation which you stressed upon is really something to be focused at , I completely agree with what you told , Also since she lost her father at the age of 8, how can she even has so many experiences or judgements for him , there's a grief of loss of fatherhood , she's recreating the image of daddy with her husband now, ...thank you so much for this observation , your lectures are always an enrichment for us the students.. 🌼🌼🥰❤️

  • @K_F_fox
    @K_F_fox Před 8 měsíci +2

    The first time I read the poem, I assumed "barely daring to breath or Achoo" was a metaphor. But my wife... her mother threatened to beat her as a child if she didn't stop burping (which was due to a hernia and food intolerances), and her grandmother threatened to beat her mother for coughing (which was due to asthma).
    Many spiritual practices involve the control of breathing, as it is both an involuntary and voluntary action. Why wouldn't a controlling, abusive parent want to exercise that level of control?

    Thanks for the amazing explanation Ma'am.One more point I would like to add in the favour of the argument that "Daddy" is most probably her husband,
    She says
    "....The vampire who said it was you
    And drank my blood for a year,
    SEVEN years,if you want to know..."
    Their marriage lasted exactly for SEVEN years as they got married in 1956 and divorced in 1963.In these SEVEN years he tortured her or as she says, "drank my blood".Please correct me if I'm wrong.I'm just a student of English literature.

    Ma'am, I am little bit confused...why did she heavily use German words if she is not addressing her father? Because it is certain that he might be either a German or Polish, not very explicit but still...
    And I would like to thank you for presenting a different viewpoint that to with such proofs for which you must have done some rigorous research. We couldn't think that she could have used the word "Daddy" for Ted Hughes. I feel like we have only been studied Plath very superficially till now. But thank you for sharing this. Will surely try to spread this perspective.
